Softonic fully supports the PAD initiative

One of the most time consuming parts of this business is version updates.

For developers, the challenge is keeping track of thousands of download portals - a necessary task since each one provides the potential for new exposure.

Similarly, download portals must keep tabs on the tens of thousands of applications that are updated regularly in order to provide their users with a quality listing of the latest software.

It's a monumental task for both sides.

PAD Standard

In an effort to simplify the synchronization of information between developers and their promoters, the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP) has developed the PAD standard that allows for all the information concerning a piece of software to be maintained and accessed from a single spot on the developers web site.

Industry-wide adoption of this open standard can only improve the situation for both sides.

Developers can focus resources on improving their products.

Download portals can concentrate on creating content and features that will help end users find the software they are looking for.

  • Update your PAD files as you release new versions

  • Avoid changing the url where your PAD file can be found
  • Submit your PAD file URL to the ASP more...
  • Create a separate PAD file for each edition of your product (PRO, DELUX, etc...)
  • Use the official PADGen tool to create your PAD files more...
  • Include as much information as possible in your PAD file
  • Display the PAD logo on your website more...
  • Encourage other developers to publish PAD files
  • Take part in improving the standard

Submit your PAD file

Create one PAD file for each edition of your product and submit each one individually.

Submitting a PAD file will not automatically list your program on Softonic. All submitted information must be reviewed by our staff prior to being put online. You will be notified via email when you program listing is online.
