DipTrace is a professional tool that's not exactly easy for those that have not got much electronic know how but it does produce stunning results. DipTrace allows you to import projects and libraries such as LT Spice, CAD, Accel, Allegro, Mentor, Protel among many others so professionals will find this a really useful complementary tool to their existing toolbox. Creating projects is simple - it just requires dragging and dropping of all the components you need into the work area and then you subsequently make connections between pins to create your own circuit. If you're not sure whether your circuit will work, there is a useful validator which checks whether what you've built will actually work in the real world. If you have gone wrong, DipTrace can suggest how it can be fixed or even automatically shift components into the right position which is where this program excels where others fail.

A professional PCB design program that is not for the faint hearted but will be a delight for professional designers and electronic engineers.

If you're a model train enthusiast who's looking for a way to test out different train models on your computer, look no further. Similar to simulators like ArcRail Train Simulation and Rail Simulator, CATrain lets you create a railway track on which to drive a model train.

CATrain is much more than a rail simulator though. The program also lets you sketch out your railway from the ground up. CATrain has a layout design option that lets you create rail switches, signals, detectors, overpasses, bridges and tunnels, among other things. You can also adapt your track length based on the size of your train.

Unfortunately, CATrain's graphics are pretty poor and don't stand up to a lot of its competitors. In terms of customization though, it's a pretty nifty program. Ultimately whether you like CATrain or not comes down to whether you can accept that the graphics simply aren't up to par. If you're looking for a lot of railway customization options though, CATrain's a good pick.

Your first job is to design the circuit. PCB Artist includes an integrated Schematics Capture tool that's easy to use and there's a useful tutorial to take you through the process. The next step is to define the PCB which involves creating the schematics. Again, another wizard helps you define the parameters of the PCB such as the layers, track sizes, and quantities. Following that, you'll need to define the layout of the PCB which includes Autoplacement and AutoRouting to make sure your PCB has the best chance of working properly. It can even generate a parts list that you'll need based on your design.

The final step is to check that your PCB actually works. The program automatically checks your final design including spacing rules, incomplete nets and connection checks. The developers then encourage you to submit your design to them for manufacture although this is entirely up to you.
This is an excellent PCB design program for beginners although those seeking to design advanced circuit boards may find it limited.
