It still has a fast and free internet connection and when you open a webpage Opera Mini will give you a full-screen view and then suggest where to zoom in to begin reading. Of course you can choose yourself if you are looking for something specific. Importantly the software changes the size of the text so you can get as much information on your screen while still being able to read it. This optimization of pages ensures easy reading. You can even flip the screen to landscape mode to get a better view. And you can bookmark in the usual way. One simple feature I liked was the Opera Mini mouse which allows easy scrolling, an addition that many mobile packages are sorely lacking.

In this game, you're in charge of...yep, you guessed it, a Little Empire! It's a lovely-looking game, with funny medieval music and lovely, detailed graphics. In Little Empire - which the developers says is a cross between a tower defense and strategy game - you'll have to build castles, wage war against your enemy and, of course, raise the funds and resources that you'll need to do this. Money is called Mojo, and although you'll start out with a certain amount, you'll have to buy or earn more.

Gameplay in Little Empire is a little complicated. There's a very quick tutorial when you start, but from there on in you'll need to click around in order to find out what you need to do. The main aim is to build profit-making ventures to gather resources, recruit an army, kit them out and march into battle. You can play one of 3 main characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Little Empire takes a long time to get into. It's real time (unless you pay to speed things up), so there's a certain amount of waiting around for your strategies to take effect. There's also a strong social element to the game - supposedly, Little Empire is the first location-based 3D mobile game - and it's certainly got lots of opportunity to meet other players and share your victories and defeats.

If you like MMOs, and you have time and money to spare, Little Empire is a great way to waste time on your Android phone.

Lacking in any capability to play video or streaming audio, RealPlayer for PalmOne is really nothing more than a simple MP3 player with support for RealAudio formats. Its user interface is simple enough, but fairly unattractive.

The only thing this program really has going for it is that it's free.

The main features to look for in a World Cup companion program are ease-of-use, in-depth information, automatic updates as the results roll in, travel data (for those lucky enough to be in Germany for the event) and… price. TinyStocks’ Football 2006 performs well on all the main features and what’s more, it’s completely free!

This simple program provides generous detail on each of the national squads, their home nation, and competitive history. As well as this, Football 2006 offers some more basic information about each venue in Germany, and guidance on how to reach them if you’re attending a game. The graphics are nice and clean, but lacking in any team or stadium photos which might have made the program a little more interesting.

Football 2006 provides a simple update service which allows you to download the latest scores via WAP/GPRS on a Treo or via a normal Sync operation with other Palm devices. It’s not clear whether this data will also include information about goal scorers, red and yellow cards, or penalties, but given the fact that this hasn't been mentioned, we’ll assume that it’s not included.

While Football 2006 is not the most advanced World Cup companion on the market, it’s easy-to-use, clear and above all, free. The fact that it doesn’t include team photos isn’t a major nuisance – the program does what it sets out to, admirably well and without taking up much space on your PDA.

For those as yet uninitiated in the rules of the game, Lemmings has a pretty simple aim: try to save as many of the cute green-haired critters as they wander witlessly into whatever peril awaits them. To help you achieve this, there are eight special types of Lemming all with a special talent that the player can make use of: climbers, floaters, exploders, blockers, builders, bashers, miners and diggers. Each of these specialists’ skills will prove invaluable in the seven different maps included in the demo edition.

There are few significant changes to gameplay in the mobile edition of Lemmings – but one handy feature that Ardiri have introduced is Scroll-by-Graffiti, a really handy control enhancement on PDAs. Similarly, the game’s graphics and sound are remarkably similar to the original game. Users of older devices may experience a minimal delay when scrolling the screen, but it should never be so bad that it really impedes your progress.

Lemmings is one of this reviewer’s all time favourite games, and Ardiri’s version for Palms is a clone of pretty much every aspect of the original.
