PalmaryClock Wireless 1.41 - Download weather forecasts and more in this neat Palm app

Boasting 1300 cities worldwide, automatic updates of weather and currency data and scheduled tasks, the application quickly becomes an essential tool for anyone who likes to have up to the minute info with them around the clock.

One of the best features PalmaryClock Wireless offers is the repeating alarm clock. This option allows you to set an alarm to repeat on certain days (a function I use all the time: no one wants to be woken at 6.55 am on a Saturday!), and can also run an application of your choice at a given time.

PalmaryClock Wireless is fully skinnable, making for a completely personalized experience, and has a version specially ‘tweaked’ for Treo 600/650 devices. This, taken alongside a stunning design and beautiful graphics, even on the lo-resolution Treo 600, makes PalmaryClock Wireless my top recommendation for programs of its type.

Cuckoo Clock 5.0 - Emulate a cuckoo clock on your Palm

They may not like fighting, but the Swiss are sure into their cuckoo clocks and if you're a fan of this particular kind of timepiece then this mobile app will ring your bell. The program is capable of emulating a cuckoo clock to measure the passing of time.

Cuckoo Clock can function in two ways. It can identify the start of each hour by playing a single tone, or tell you what hour it is by playing the corresponding number of 'cuckoos'.

Although this is a fairly basic program there are a few options you can mess around with, including choosing one of three sounds (a bell, a cuckoo, or a bell and cuckoo combo), and defining the volume level based on the time of day. This means you can make the cuckoo sound quieter at night, which is very handy for sleeping.

If you want to impress your buddies with an accurate cuckoo sound every hour, this app is perfect, although the constant clucking soon becomes annoying.

Belltime 1.1 - Multi-function clock with multiple alarms

If you're the kind of person who's always missing meetings, events or even birthdays then perhaps it's time you did something about it.

Don't worry though, because all you need to ensure that you're always on time for everything is your Palm handset. Belltime is one of a number of clock apps for the platform, though this one offers a lot more than most of them, allowing you to controlthe passing of time in a highly visual and intuitive way.

At its core, Belltime is a clock with the time and date, but the difference with this one is that the program's interface can be customised with 20 different elements, including alarms, stopwatches, timers and even an MP3 player window.

Once you've set up all the different alarms and timepieces your Palm will be looking like something from an Eighties James Bond film (Live and Let Die, perhaps) and you'll have a multitude of functions accessible from one place. The trouble is, with all these different windows and dials on display at once things can get a little confusing and the interface is somewhat cluttered.

Nevertheless, if you want to make sure that you're always on time for everything, Belltime provides you with oodles of functionality.

AmbTime 1.1 - Track ambulance response times

What I love about the Palm OS is the sheer range of applications available for the platform that cater for a wealth of different minority interests or uses.

For instance, AmbTime is a program that allows you to track ambulance responses to incidents. It provides a quick way of recording the time at each stage of the callout and response process, which can be used to monitor worker's performance and analyze areas for improvement.

The program's main interface is designed for touchscreen use and consists of seven different buttons representing each stage of the process, namely: Call Received, EnRoute, Arrive at Scene, From Scene, At Destination, In Service, In Quarters. What I like about this menu is the fact that all you need to do is touch a button and it automatically records the time and inserts it next to each stage. What I didn't like was that there was no protection against hitting the wrong button out of sequence.

AmbTime is highly customizable and you can set your own button names and insert unlimited timer groups.

This means that it's not just ambulance crews who can use it, but rather anyone who needs to quickly monitor times at each stage of a sequence of events.

Wecker 1.1 - A practical clock for your Palm with multiple alarms

I'm forever late for stuff and often wish I could have a more advanced way of setting up different alarms on my Palm device.

Wecker is designed to provide you with the tools you need to ensure you never miss an appointment or event. The program offers you the chance to set multiple alarms for different events, so you don't need to keep setting new ones everytime something else is happening. You can enter a title for each alarm, so that you don't forget what you're being reminded of!

The interface itself consists of an anlog clock (a very crudely-drawn one, in fact, with text on it that's impossible to make out) and three buttons for adding, deleting, or modifying alarms.

In terms of setting the alarms themselves, I like the way you can schedule an alarm to run at the same time on chosen days of the week. What I didn't like was the fact that you can't enter an exact time, as the minutes must be divisible by 15 (i.e. quarter past, half-past, quater-to, and o'clock).

Add to all this the fact that there's only one alarm tone, and you quickly realize that Wecker isn't the most advanced Palm alarm app out there.

Palm Tea 1.1 - Simple timer for controlling cooking

I'm a huge tea drinker myself and as a matter of fact, I probably couldn't write all these software reviews every day were it not for my refreshing milky fuel.

Sometimes though I get so engrossed testing a piece of software that I completely forget I've left the tea bag in the water for 20 minutes and dash to the kitchen to find that the infusion has gone bad (or 'stewed' as it's known in tea-drinking circles).

Luckily, this didn't happen when I tested Palm Tea, for the very reason that this is a program designed to help avoid these situations. In fact, I don't think I'll ever forget to take the tea bag out again. The program allows you to choose one of five timers (one minute to five minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea), which countdown the time left until the drink is ready, sounding an alert when it's time to take the bag out.

Unfortunately though, that's about as far as it goes. You can only choose a maximum of five minutes and you can't set a precise period of time in minutes and seconds. The one-screen interface is very minimal (save for a picture of a cup of tea) and the timer and alarm settings are minimal.

Regular tea drinkers may find Palm Tea useful, but it's very restricted as a timer for other things.

maClock 1.8 u - Digital alarm clock for your Palm

If you're anything like me then one alarm is never enough. In fact, sometimes I wish I had an alarm to remind me to set my alarm.

Well, if you're looking for a complete alarm system for your Palm that's a little more advanced than the default one you might want to give maClock a try. The program provides a highly visual way of staying on time and includes three simultaneously working programmable alarms.

The user interface looks like it belongs in the early Nineties - the digital clock font is embarrassingly retro, the calendar display is far to squashed up and the flashing battery power indicator is a bit of an eyesore. Thankfully, the old adage that beauty is only skin deep prevails here and you'll find plenty of tools in maClock to help you manage your time more effectively.

The alarms themselves are highly customizable: you can name each alarm, set the number of rings, add pauses and toggle light and lock on and off. The choice of alarm tones is pretty rich too, and includes old favorites like the Beverley Hills Cop theme, the Spy vs Spy music and La Cucaracha.

Preferences abound in this program and besides just setting alarms you can display the Internet time, switch from two default time zone displays and view the current areas of daytime and nighttime on a world map.

If you can stomach the rather crude interface design, you'll find maClock a useful way of keeping track of the time.

Many stopwatches and timers for mobiles can seem a little limited, even simplistic. This is not true of Harry's GPS LapTimer Professional. Not only does it record all your times, it does it using GPS technology so you don't even have to worry about pressing the start and the stop buttons. And it looks pretty good, too.

The manual lap timer looks exactly as you'd expect from a professional driver's stopwatch plus the second hand actually ticks, which can unfortunately become a little irritating. Lap times are displayed in different colours for best times, and comparisons can be made quickly and easily with time lists and graphs. GPS technology is used to great effect with this stopwatch. While lapping the software records driver position, speed and height, plus you can replay in 'shadow mode' to compare laps. If you don't have someone to time your laps the technology will start and stop the clock as you cross the start and finish line. It's a very good clock that will suit pro racers as much as amateurs.

Watchix is the analogue watch you always wanted. Or if it's not it can be because there are lots of changeable options ranging from the time display to the backgrounds. You can opt for a numerical clock face or Roman numerals and switch backgrounds between the earth, marbles and classical paintings.

Select the day and date in the middle of the watch for quick reference and let it fade out so not to spoil the display. Watchix's best feature for me is the simulated ticking sound that you can switch off if you find irritating. All in all Watchix provides a nice variety of watches for your mobile meaning you should never get bored of telling the time.

Analoge Uhr 1.9.3 - Full-screen sports studio clock with extras

This full-screen sports studio design harks back to the 1970s when sports presenters on television wore bright yellow jumpers and the time was always ticking behind on an enormous analogue clock. The display is in minimalist black and white colours without numbers. It's extremely clear.

The time is displayed in the bottom right of the screen, continually counting, and can be set in 12 or 24 hour format. On the bottom left is the date and top left is the day. What's great is when the mobile is turned off the clock remains in full-screen view. When the mobile is on the clock will change to savings mode after a short time keeping your battery safe. It's a classic clock that looks great on the Palm.

BigBen 0.55 - Turn your PDA into a cuckoo clock

If you've ever dreamed of carrying a cuckoo clock around in your hand (which I have on many occasions), then BigBen is the program for you. The app is easy to set up and allows you to set the volume of the tones, the interval, the type of sounds and the number of repititions.

BigBen boasts a decent selection of tones and you're sure to find at least one that you like. I must admit having chimes go off in your pocket every hour does get a little annoying after a while, but the program is a good distraction for a while anyway.

MegaClock 2.30 - Multi-purpose timekeeping utility for your Palm PDA

MegaClock is a multifunctional clock/alarm/timer/stopwatch utility that enables the user to measure time in almost unlimited ways. The current day and time can be displayed in both Digital and Analog formats. The Alarm view allows the user to set up to 20 different alarms. The Timers view offers 4 countdown clocks which can be run simultaneously. The Stopwatch view will track event times to the hundredth of a second, complete with an unlimited number of split times. The Events view will calculate how far away a user-specified future event (eg, the new year or your wife`s birthday) is in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes or seconds.

But the software can do still more--there are several other views as well. Want to know what time the sun will rise tomorrow in your city? Want to know the minute that the moon will full? What time is it in London right now? In Tokyo? MegaClock has the answer to all of these questions and more!

The software is highly customizable. If the user`s home city is not among the 500 predefined cities in the application, additional cities can be defined (by longitude and latitude) and added to the program`s database. The General view includes a customizable status bar, so the user`s favorite views can be just a tap away at all times. Alarm sounds, color schemes, and hardware button behavior can all be tailored to the user`s individual preferences.

CityTime 5.8.4 - World Time for Palm OS devices

The fast and accurate day/night plot shows where it is day and night across the world in real time. Time anywhere in the world can be estimated by referring to the day/night plot. Tapping on the main screen map shows the name and time in the nearest city. Four world clocks on screen give precise information and show the day of the week in remote cities.

The 'Location' feature allows you to automatically and accurately adjust your Pocket PC's location and timezone when traveling. Fully automatic daylight savings time means remote city times are always correct. Onscreen DST indicators allow you to see at a glance any cities which are currently in daylight savings time.

Full online help is provided within the program, it includes not only information on use but interesting information about geography.

BinClock - A binary Palm clock for our more... techy users!

This application displays a binary clock on your device's screen. See below for a detailed explanation of how to read the time on this interesting clock.

This is the main view, with all of the "cheat features" enabled. Technically-oriented people will only display the center squares which accurately represent the time. You can selectively turn on the Hours/Min/Seconds heading, the 8/4/2/1 row labels, and the "normal" numerical time near the bottom. See below for instructions on how to read a binary clock.

This is the configuration dialog which lets you enable text labels, as well as select 24-hour time. Users of Palm OS 3.x devices (Palm III and later) can toggle grayscale graphics mode.
