There's so much to love about Formula 1 - the pulsating starts, the perilous overtaking maneuvers, the tactical pit stops, and of course the bikini-clad beauties at the start.

If you're a fan of the motorsport and want to follow the season's thrills and spills on your Palm device then you really shouldn't be without this little app. The program contains a wealth of information about the calendar, courses, tracks, drivers and teams.

The menu structure is clear and simple, and from the home screen you're given the option of choosing from the five aforementioned categories. The 'Championship' section provides a ranking of the top drivers for the season, which is updated as the season goes on.

The 'Calendar' menu gives you a run-down of the order and dates of the races, providing you with details of each course, such as the circuit length, web address, lap record etc., plus the facility for entering the final positions in the season's championship. You also get a basic illustrated map of the course.

Clicking the 'Drivers' menu option gives you a list of all this year's drivers and even test drivers, containing info on them about date of birth, nationality, height, weight, number of races/podium finishes etc. For some reason it doesn't show you how many Grand Prix wins they have, and it would've also been nice to see photographs of the drivers.

Likewise, the 'Cars' and 'Teams' section also doesn't have an option for viewing photos of the vehicles, which I found was a key ommission.

Despite the lack of photography, F1 Season 2008 is chock-full of stats and makes for an ideal companion to the motorsport season.

Taking care of your bank accounts has got to be one of the most mundane day-to-day chores. Install Ma Tirelire on your Palm though, and things get much easier.

Despite its rather silly name, Ma Tirelire is actually a seriously comprehensive mobile money management tool, allowing you to make financial decisions while you're on the move. You can set up multiple accounts in Ma Tirelire, allowing you to organize your personal, business, or archived accounts simply in tandem.

The text-heavy user interface is a little daunting at first and it takes a while to get used to the location of the various menus and commands Ma Tirelire has to offer. Once you do though, you'll be amazed at how powerful the application is. You can manage everything from day-to-day transactions, through transactions splits, to inter-account transfers.

One of my favorite things about Ma Tirelire is its support for direct typing and macros, which serve to make it easier to enter transactions quickly, as you have a pre-made template for recording movements. Add to this tools for tracking checks, updating exchange rates, and a wealth of useful statistics, and Ma Tirelire represents a very useful tool for keeping your finances in order.

If you have a bank account and you have a Palm device, I highly recommend installing Ma Tirelire.

If you've ever been to Madrid, you'll know what a beautiful city it is. If you've never been to Madrid before, this guide will help you discover just how beautiful it is.

The Madrid DK Eyewitness Top Ten Travel Guide is a Palm-based version of the popular Dorling Kindersley series of the same name. The difference is, you get all the information from your PDA instead of having to carry a book around with the rest of your travel gear.

The guide contains a series of useful sections, all available from one handy - if not a little bland - interface. Among the area's to explore are Madrid's Highlights, Around Town, Streetsmart (a guide to staying safe outside in the city), plus a selection of zoomable maps and public transport guides.

By far my most favorite section, and the most unique of this particular guide is 'Madrid's Top Ten'. This contains a series of 'best lists' to help you prioritize the things you're going to see and do while you're in the city, from shopping, to sight-seeing, to night-clubbing.

The only thing I'd point out is that some of the prices listed for things like transport and food may become out of date fairly quickly, given the state of the economy today, but budgeting is really a concern you could always check online before you go.

If you want a well-written and refreshing guide to this wonderful Spanish city, the DK Eyewitness Top Ten guide makes for a useful mobile companion.

As the riders prepare for yet another year of the World's most famous cycle race, so comes another new version of this Palm guide to Le Tour de France.

LeTour 2008 is crammed with all sorts of information about the race, including information about the route, as well as details of who is taking part this year. The main program interface consists of a map of France with the route drawn onto it. Each stage is numbered on the map and the corresponding numbers are circled around the map. Unfortunately, there's no way of zooming into the map, so you only really get a general overview of exactly where each stage is.

Clicking on any of the stage numbers will bring up more details about that stage. Here you can see the date, distance and location, as well as a rough overview of the route, showing key markers and a visual guide to the undulations of that particular section. Again, this could do with a zoom feature, as the text on the stage overview is pretty small.

Besides the information about each stage, you can also access details about the teams from the main menu. Although it doesn't list detailed information about individual riders or photographs, you are able to view the names of the riders in each team.

One of the best things about LeTour 2008 though, is the fact that you can combine it with your Datebook to add all the stage information, removing and updating details as the race progresses.

If you want to keep an eye on what's happening at this year's big race, LeTour 2008 provides a useful way of doing so from your Palm device.

With fuel costs rising all the time, perhaps it's time you started monitoring your vehicle's petrol or diesel consumption more closely.

RMRFuel is an application for Palm that lets you manage the fuel consumption of up to 10 different vehicles. The program is designed to record the amount you pay at the pump, cost per gallon/liter, distance covered, and fuel consumption to help you analyze exactly how much your spending out on your vehicle or vehicles.

It's pretty easy to set up RMRFuel. You start by entering the make and model of your car, along with licence plate details, and initial mileage. Once this information is all recorded you can start tracking your fuel consumption. An icon at the foot of the interface allows you to enter data about the cost of the fuel in your own currency and in liters or gallons.

The good thing about RMRFuel is that is supports up to 10 vehicles, so if you have a whole fleet you can use it to analyze and compare fuel consumption among all of them through the graphs and charts you can generate. The program boasts a few other neat features such as a reminder for when your oil needs changing, plus the ability to export your data for viewing elsewhere.

On the downside, the user interface isn't particularly well designed and feels too cluttered, especially if you have lots of vehicles in the database. It also lacks the searching and sorting capabilities that would have transformed RMRFuel from an average utility to a good one.

Nevertheless, if you have to manage a large group of vehicles and have a Palm it's worth downloading RMRFuel to help you monitor fuel consumption.

I also thought the Sight Index was very useful, as it allows you to quickly view a list of all London's main attractions then find out where they are on a map just by clicking on them.

As with most guides like this, it's worth double-checking the prices of attractions and transport online, as some of it may be out of date.

The Streetsmart section is invaluable as it provides loads of tips on how to behave in Vegas.

The guide also includes a series of zoomable, easy-to-navigate maps of Central Las Vegas, Greater Las Vegas, and the surrounding area. You also get a street index for mapping the best route between two places in the city.

I've never really been one for dieting or controlling my weight with exercise, but if I was then I'd want a way of doing so without expending much effort. Actually, maybe that's my problem.

You start by entering some personal details about yourself, such as your height, weight, age, etc., before inputting the amount of weight you'd like to lose, gain or maintain as it is.

Then comes the fun part - every day, you can record all of the food and drink that you eat by clicking on the sandwich icon. Click the add icon to look up an item of food from the database, or use the built-in search to find it. The program displays all the calorie content information about that food. You then enter the amount of that food that you've had today and it's added to the list.

The exercise section of Diets allows you to record your daily activities in much the same way as recording what you've eaten. Then comes the clever bit - the app analyses in real-time the total calories consumed and expended and tells you whether you need to eat more or exercise more in order to meet your targets.

With the FIFA World Cup just about to start, now’s the time to lay your hands on the application which will accompany you through the highs and the lows of the great football competition.

The main features to look for in a World Cup companion program are ease-of-use, in-depth information, automatic updates as the results roll in, travel data (for those lucky enough to be in Germany for the event) and… price. TinyStocks’ Football 2006 performs well on all the main features and what’s more, it’s completely free!

This simple program provides generous detail on each of the national squads, their home nation, and competitive history. As well as this, Football 2006 offers some more basic information about each venue in Germany, and guidance on how to reach them if you’re attending a game. The graphics are nice and clean, but lacking in any team or stadium photos which might have made the program a little more interesting.

Football 2006 provides a simple update service which allows you to download the latest scores via WAP/GPRS on a Treo or via a normal Sync operation with other Palm devices. It’s not clear whether this data will also include information about goal scorers, red and yellow cards, or penalties, but given the fact that this hasn't been mentioned, we’ll assume that it’s not included.

While Football 2006 is not the most advanced World Cup companion on the market, it’s easy-to-use, clear and above all, free. The fact that it doesn’t include team photos isn’t a major nuisance – the program does what it sets out to, admirably well and without taking up much space on your PDA.

I've never been pregnant and I'm pretty sure I never will be, but if I was I'm sure I'd want some sort of way of tracking the days and weeks of the prenatal period.

BToday allows you to monitor your pregnancy on your Palm device, providing you with a calendar to track the process of the baby's development. Before you start you need to enter the date of fertilization and let the program do the rest as the days and weeks go by.

The main screen features a date line tracking the nine months, with an arrow indicating the point in time you're currently at. The app is then split into three sections: Calendar, which outlines the development cycle in chronological order, such as when the fetal heartbeat begins, the nuchal translucency, triple screen, etc; the Trimester, which details what happens in the current trimester; and This Week, which offers some fascinating insights into what's going on in the womb during the current week of development. All the information seems very well researched and can give you valuable advice on what you should be doing or thinking about during each stage of the pregnancy.

It's a fairly well presented application, although I think it would be useful to have some pictorial references showing what the baby might look like during the different stages of its development.

Nevetheless, if you are pregnant and have a Palm, BToday provides a helpful way of tracking both yours and your baby's progress.
