D-Pod 1.3-Convert your PDA into a drum kit

If you've always dreamed of being like Phil Collins or the guy from Def Lepperd who had one arm, but could never afford a drum kit, then D-Pod could be the perfect solution for you.

The application allows you to turn your Palm device into a virtual drum kit, so you can impress/annoy people with your drumming 'skills' everywhere you go.

The program itself consists of an environment with nine different icons. Each of these represents a standard part of the drum kit set-up, such as the cymbals, toms, bass, etc.

It'll probably take you a while to figure out which icon represents which element because they're all pretty badly drawn in what is a scrappy interface.

The sounds themselves are a fair reflection of the real thing but, of course, the Palm speakers are a poor substitute for a huge PA system.

With a few other options such as volume controls and the ability to record sequences, D-Pod is an interesting diversion for a while but interest soon fades the more you listen to it.

Xeep is a very interesting and strange little musical arranger that is good fun but I'm not sure if it is anything else. Which half infuriates me.
But good fun can be enough. The software works by creating a different musical note depending on where you point your stylus on the screen. It can produce octaves and thirds and the more notes you play the more colourful the screen becomes.
So you get full sound and vision aesthetics.
If you are good enough you might be able to compose small pieces of music but on the whole I found it was more like a little musical toy that's nice to experiment with and make colourful patterns.
Once you've created a 'musical score' you can adjust the tempo of the playing to find which speed best suits your piece. Yes it's strange but it's also quite fun.
