These days we all have multiple passwords that we use for different accounts, sites and services. In fact, if you use just one password for everything, you're risking a heavy loss if anyone finds out.

Of course, one of the drawbacks of having so many different passwords is that it's difficult to remember what they all are, or, more to the point, which password/username goes with which account. I don't know about you, but I have so many passwords, usernames and PIN numbers for stuff these days that I could probably turn them into a 500-page book (albeit a really boring book). Of course, it's virtually impossible to store this much data in one head, so it's a good idea to install some kind of password management program.

If you're a Mac user then you're in luck, because there's a rather wonderful app for OS X called 1Passwd , which keeps a record of all your secret numbers for you. What's more, if you have a Palm or Treo, you can now use your handheld to transport this information around with you wherever you go.

1Passwd Reader syncs to your Mac version of 1Passwd pretty easily, though it is a little long-winded to begin with. You will need to download the Palm Desktop for Macintosh utility first and install it. Then you'll need to launch HotSync and click the 'Install Handheld Files' menu item to install and sync the application.

Once it's all set up though, the program works very well, seamlessly transmitting all your password info from your Mac to your Palm memory or expansion card. From here you can browse all your passwords using your key chain access code.

Phone security is very important these days but many security programs can be overly complicated and frustrating to use when what you really want is something that locks your mobile phone with just a simple click. That's what 1TouchLock offers you; it really is very simple.

Once installed all you need to do is allocate the 'hard key' on your mobile phone that you wish to be the 'locking button'. So from then on each time you press that key for a short period the phone will lock. To unlock you must enter a password. You can also choose for the phone to automatically lock after a period of time when the mobile phone has not been used. And so the problem, and unfortunately with very simple software there are often some. By reseting the phone it is possible to get around the security device. So it's not 100% secure. But if you want something that presents itself as secure, and that will stop you making random calls when your phone is in your pocket, it's a fine middle option.

So how many of you have access to top secret meetings? Who gets tours of nuclear missile facilities? Anyone have tea with the president where a few confidential dossiers might be lying about the room? Well if you are one of the above then security is probably something you need to take seriously. In which case PDAs with cameras on them could be something of a problem for you. mCamLock guarantees access to the most secure and forbidden zones.

The software works by temporarily disabling the camera on your PDA between any two times of your choice. Once locked the camera is impossible to access, meaning photographs and video recordings cannot be taken. As soon as the time period expires the camera returns to its normal function. Perhaps I'm not moving in the right circles but this software seems to have a particularly limited audience to me. The only places I go where I'm not allowed to take photos are museums; and then I don't take photos.

iSecur is a Personal Information Manager which lets you store secrets safely. iSecur is the successor of Secure It and provides stronger encryption (SHA256 and AES), icons, intelligent templates and more.

On the first run you will have to form the seed which will make up the encryption key for the database. Please turn off any on-screen writing software you may have. e.g.:

• On the TX, go to System -> Prefs -> Input. Make sure that the Show Graffiti Strokes checkbox is unchecked
• On the Z22, go to System -> Prefs -> Writing Area. Make sure that Write anywhere on-screen is set to Off

When the database has been created you can enable the on-screen writing software you previously disabled. Collect SeedUse a combination of narrow and wide strokes. Also vary the speed of the strokes. The count will countdown from 256. When the count reaches 1 you will be asked to create a new password. Please enter and confirm your desired password.
