QuickType is an add-on for your system that activates a virtual keyboard in the Graffiti area of your Palm.

Up-to-date PDAs has powerful processors has dozens megabytes of memory. However, there is no handy method of entering texts on such computers. Yes, you can type several words using graffiti, but what would you do if you need to type a whole page?

The keys on a system virtual keyboard are too small, and drawing thousands of squiggles with the help of graffiti is very tiresome. Furthermore, you have to constantly correct errors! You certainly wanted to write something voluminous on your Palm Handheld, but you always were confused by typesetting difficulties. Being of English tongue, I don't really have to face the challenge of entering accents or special characters when I'm typing.

From what I've heard from foreign friends and colleagues though, it's not always that easy, especially if you're trying to enter them using Palm's Graffiti feature, because it simply doesn't recognize them.

Accenter is designed to change all that, and allows you to enter a variety of accents used in languages such as French, Spanish and Italian, as well as giving you access to special characters such as the German umlaut and Polish and Portuguese characters.

Thankfully, adding accents and special characters with Accenter is a very painless process. As soon as you type a letter the program will pop up a selection of transparent boxes displaying possible accents. You can select an accent simply by pressing the corresponding button on your PDA's controller. If you don't want to use an accent you just keep typing.

It's a very slick system, but the constant pop-ups do become annoying after a while, so I'd recommend you disable the application when you're writing documents in English.

Nevertheless, if you regularly type in a language with accents or special characters, this is an essential Palm download.

SilkScreen is a utility providing an application launcher available from any application, virtual Graffiti to enable writing on the display itself, secondary application launching and more through hard keys, and launching of DAs. Using MobileWrite, it is easy to enter text and data, in to your favorite Palm OS applications, by simply writing on the screen of your handheld, instead of using the keyboard. It is an improvement over the Graffiti 1 and Graffiti 2 handwriting recognition software found on many Palm OS PDAs and Smartphones.

Graffiti Anywhere allows you to use the Graffiti recognition system anywhere on the screen.

First launch Graffiti Anywhere and tap the "Enable" button. Go to the MemoPad application (or any application that needs text input) and create a new memo. The default activation button is the Datebook button (except for Treo 600 and 650 for which it's the Phone button). So press and hold the activation button and AT THE SAME TIME use the stylus to stroke Graffiti characters directly on the screen.

There are 4 different activation methods (described later in this document). The possible activation buttons depend on the device you're using. As in the Graffiti area, stroke letters on left side and digits on right side.

Imagine being able to switch from portrait to landscape at the press of button... Or imagine bringing the DIA up or down by pressing the up and down buttons... Well thanks to DIAButton you can!

DIAButton is a simple but useful program to map your Palm's hard buttons to manipulate the DIA. You can use any hard button on your Palm to bring the DIA up or down, or just change the orientation (rotate the screen).

ShortCut5 is a PalmOS 5.x preference panel which supports large (up to 4096 characters in size) shortcut definitions.

The system shortcuts only supports small (about 45 characters in size) shortcut definitions. ShortCut5 shortcuts are in addition to the system shortcuts.

Limitations. Maximum of fifty shortcuts definitions. Each shortcut name is from one to four characters in length. Shortcut names are case sensitive and cannot contain the period "." character. ShortCut5 is only supported on PalmOS 5.x and on locales that use single byte characters.

ShortCut5 will not recursively expand shortcut definitions.

Instructions. To expand a shortcut, enter a period "." character followed immediately by the shortcut name. Do not change fields or change the insertion point within the same field while entering the shortcut name.

App list. This is used to select a list of apps to either enable or disable (based upon the activation options in the Preferences).

Activation options in the Preferences. This is used to selectively disable and enable this preference panel. (1) Enable all apps. ShortCut5 is always enabled. (2) Disable all apps. ShortCut5 is always disabled. (3) Disable for app list. ShortCut5 is enabled for all apps except for those in the app list. (4) Enable for app list. ShortCut5 is disabled for all apps except for those in the app list.

Optimal performance. For best performance, use the app list and activation options to disable ShortCut5 when executing games or other event intensive (graphics) applications.

Full-screen Graffiti is a useful feature of newer handhelds, but it can interfere with many applications – particularly games and drawing programs. GrafAuto is a freeware utility that allows you to automatically switch full-screen Graffiti on or off for each application on your handheld.

GrafAuto is compatible with handhelds that use Palm's full-screen Graffiti.

Newpen allows us to use the entire PDA screen as a graffiti area instead of just the silkscreen. This is usable when you want to input text in the dark area and you can not see silkscreen, silkscreen is hide by active graffiti, no silkscreen device like Handspring Treo.
