Snowboard Bob 1.8-Hit the slopes with Bob the snowboarder

http://snowboard-bob.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

Winter doesn't have to be all doom and gloom where everyone has to stay in the house. Not when there's fun to be had on the slopes!

If you're a bit of an adrenaline junkie then you may wish to try out Snowboard Bob. The game sees you take to the mountains as a kind-of eggman/potato head hybrid in a Father Christmas hat, who must negotiate 20 different courses of increasing difficulty (there's only one in this trial version I'm afraid).

Snowboard Bob is actually two games in one. The first part is a Frogger-style challenge in which you need to get Bob to the snowboard shop on the other side of the road, while avoiding all the cars, trucks and penguins(!) Once you've done this, it's time to take to the slopes. Here you need to weave your way through the flags and dodge the obstacles by jumping over them from the ramps provided.

The game is good fun to play but unfortunately the graphics in Snowboard Board are pretty poor and look like they've been drawn by a four year-old kid. The sound effects are quite basic too.

But if you want a diverting wintry game to warm your fingers up, Snowboard Board is worth trying out.

Download Snowboard Bob 1.8 in Softonic

Worms World Party 1.0.4d-Pocket PC version of the classic game, Worms

http://worms-world-party.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

Though it often lived in the shadow of Lemmings, Worms is still one of the most widely-loved computer games series of all times.

Now the wriggly rascals come to your Pocket PC in the shape of Worms World party. For the benefit of anyone who hasn't played Worms before, your mission is to control an army of worms in a battle for global domination against other tribes. To do this you have an arsenal of weird and wonderful weapons which you must select with great care in order to outwit your opponent.

Graphically, Worms World Party is very impressive. The characters are cute, the backgrounds are crisp and clear and the voices and sound effects are laugh-out-loud funny. The one thing that lets this PDA version of Worms World Party down over the original is the fact you have to scroll the battlefield a lot working out what's going on. Obviously this needs to be the case with such a small screen size, but nevertheless it does become a little frustrating that you can't see everything on screen at once.

There's plenty in Worms World Party to keep you coming back for more. There are different game modes (vs computer, deathmatch and multiplayer) and you can customize lots of elements of the game, such as controls, time limits, weapons, etc. Best of all, because of the infinite landscape generation in Worms World Party, you'll never play in the same place twice!

Worms World Party is a true classic and it's great to see it ported on the Pocket PC so well.

Download Worms World Party 1.0.4d in Softonic

Snow Rally City Stage 1.1.1-Test your skills at speed in this rally game

http://snow-rally-city-stage.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

There aren't many 3D motor racing sims that come anywhere near the standard of a console racer, but Snow Rally City Stage is part of that rare breed that do.

Snow Rally City Stage sees you whiz through stunningly-rendered city streets on a quest for speed. There are only three courses to choose from (all of them in Canada) but each has been lovingly created with great attention to detail. In fact, in some places the graphics in Snow Rally City Stage are almost too detailed and the sheer amount of stuff on screen at one time can make it difficult to see where you're going at times.

Controlling Snow Rally City Stage is very straightforward assuming you have a basic grasp of the direction keys, and the animation of the cars is surprisingly smooth. The advanced opponent AI makes it tricky to pass other vehicles, but this only serves to prolong the challenge.

Another cool feature of Snow Rally City Stage is its video replay feature, where you can watch your race back from a variety of angles. Again, the animation here is slick and it's perfect for analyzing your strengths and weaknesses.

There's no question that Snow Rally City Stage is a great mobile driving sim. It would be nice to see a few more courses in there now.

Download Snow Rally City Stage 1.1.1 in Softonic

Kung-Fu Fighting 1.0-Rescue your girlfriend in this martial arts fighting game

http://kung-fu-fighting.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

If you fancy yourself as the next Bruce Lee then you can now put your skills to the test while you're sat on the bus, thanks to this Windows Mobile game.

The plot outline is the same as virtually every Kung-Fu movie I've ever seen - your girlfriend has been kidnapped by an evil family, who just so happen to be experts in hand-to-hand combat. Your mission is to rescue the girl using the wisdom passed onto by your late Kung-Fu master.

If the story sounds unoriginal then just wait until you play the game. It really is like going back in time to 1992 and heading to the nearest arcade. Your little Kung-Fu man must keep walking right, defeating all the other little Kung-Fu men that come his way. It seems that under the tuition of his late Sensei your character has learned an impressive array of two moves - a punch and a kick, which makes this game somewhat annoying.

Sure, the graphics are OK, but with just two pathetic moves to choose from it's kind of a waste of the motion capture technology that the developer of Kung-Fu Master has employed. The sound too is pretty crummy and at times it sounds more like a squabble between two toddlers than a serious martial arts game.

There are lots of bonus levels, special weapons and end-bosses that help to add a bit of variety to Kung-Fu Master, but in terms of its gameplay, this one becomes boring pretty quickly.

Download Kung-Fu Fighting 1.0 in Softonic

http://3d-mini-dogfight.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

3D Mini-Dogfight is a graphically-rich air combat simulation for Windows Mobile, which handles very well for a mobile game.

The animation in 3D Mini-Dogfight is smooth enough and there are some cool sound effects and background music to keep your pulse racing as you play. There are even cool video replays so you can see what happened to you after the game.

In the full version of 3D Mini-Dogfight you get to choose to fly in one of four planes taken from the different armies of WWII, namely the Supermarine Spitfire, Yakovlev Yak-9, Messerschmitt BF109G, and the P51 Mustang. In the trial version only the Spitfire is available. You can also choose from five different kinds of terrain and four difficulty levels.

The game controls in 3D Mini-Dogfight are easy to master and you can use the touchscreen or the directional buttons to guide your craft through the sky. The gameplay itself is fun - but only up to a point. This is because there isn't really a structured story to 3D Mini-Dogfight. There are no missions or campaigns to compete in, and no objectives to achieve. You simply fly through the the air shooting things down.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the way 3D Mini-Dogfight plays, it's just that its lack of structure makes it a little one dimensional.

Download 3D Mini-Dogfight 2.00 in Softonic

http://flux-challenge.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

I was a huge fan of F-Zero on the Super Nintendo so I was very excited about the prospect of playing Flux Challenge on my Pocket PC.

I wasn't disappointed either, as the game proved to be an adrenaline-pumping experience that immerses you in a high-speed world of magnetic levitation. The most immediately impressive thing about Flux Challenge is its graphics. Rendered in 3D with smooth animation (providing you have a powerful enough device), this is one of the most visually accomplished Windows Mobile racing games around.

The gameplay itself is exciting and fast-paced, although it takes a while to get used to the control system. What's more, the various obstacles and hazards on the track make Flux Challenge a little too difficult at times.

There's enough diversity in Flux Challenge to keep you amused for hours. You get 24 playable races (not all are available in this demo version), 6 different vehicles, and different three game modes.

Although it takes a bit of practice, Flux Challenge offers a way for adrenaline junkies to satisfy their needs on their mobile.

Download Flux Challenge 5.0 in Softonic

Moorhuhn 0.96-Crazy capers with chickens and shotguns

http://moorhuhn.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

If you were a fan of the original Moorhuhn game for PC and Nintendo then you might want to check out this clone for Pocket PC.

The object of Moorhuhn is to shoot as many flying chickens as you can within a given time period. The fowl fly at you from both sides of the screen and you must tap with the stylus or your finger to blast them. Be careful though because your rifle only holds up to five bullets at a time, so you'll need to keep reloading.

The graphics in Moorhuhn are pleasing on the eye with funny cartoon chickens and an attractive landscape background. The shooting and reloading sound effects are well done too.

In terms of its gameplay, Moorhuhn is somewhat limited. It's a little easy and there is a distinct lack of variety. There's only one level and one game mode, which gets very repetitive, aside from the different movements of the chickens and the occasional power-up, which gives you more points if you shoot it.

Moorhuhn is a fun, mindless timewaster that's ideal for bus journeys, but its lack of variety means it's ultimately a bit of a lame duck.

Download Moorhuhn 0.96 in Softonic

http://bass-guitar-hero.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

Guitar Hero-style games are all the rage these days, and here's one for all you fans of the bass.

Bass Guitar Hero challenges you to hit all the right notes as the colored notes move down the neck of the guitar to the fretboard. You need to tap the colored square beneath the string of the falling note just at the right time in order to score points.

Unfortunately, there is just one song preloaded in Bass Guitar Hero, and it's nothing that you'll recognize. However, you can load your own songs into the game, though they will need to be in WAV format. Simply tell Bass Guitar Hero which folder to look in on your device and it will auto-detect any WAV files in there.

The presentation of Bass Guitar Hero is a little rough around the edges. The graphics are basic and the animation of the falling notes is quite jerky, making this much less enjoyable than the original Guitar Hero game. Not also, that Bass Guitar Hero is only compatible with VGA Windows Mobile devices.

However, if you've got a very good imagination then you can play Beatles tracks with Bass Guitar Hero and make out like you're Paul McCartney while you're sat on the bus.

Download Bass Guitar Hero 1.0 in Softonic

Red Sector 2112 1.3-Blood, guts and aliens on your Pocket PC

http://red-sector-2112.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

First-person shooters in the style of classics like Quake or Halo aren't developed for Pocket PC that often, so naturally when I hear about one that's been exclusively designed for the Windows Mobile platform, I get a little bit excited.

Red Sector 2112 sees you assume the role of a half-man-half-machine Terminator-style character who must save the human population of Mars (Earth is a no-go area these days, by the way) from alien invaders from a far-off galaxy. OK, so the back story isn't exactly a work of genius, but they rarely are in this type of game and it makes a change from the Martians attacking us Earthlings on our own planet. As always, what's really important is the excuse it gives you to blast the living daylights out of aliens, zombies, mutants, cyborgs, etc.

Graphically, Red Sector 2112 is one of the most accomplished first-person 3D shooters you'll find on the Windows Mobile platform. I was surprised by the level of detail in the scenery and the explosion effects are impressive too. The electric guitar-based soundtrack is atmospheric enough without ever really being ground-breaking.

You'll need plenty of processor power in order to get the best from this game (at the very least a 400MHz processor with 10Mb of program memory), although there are a series of options to scale-down the graphics settings, available from the main menu if you find it's really laboring.

The gameplay itself is quite exciting once you get into the game. The action starts a fairly slow pace at first and you'll walk around for ages not really getting much action. I guess this is done to help you learn the largely touchscreen-based controls, though personally I think they are fairly easy to master anyway. As you progress through the levels though you'll encounter all manner of baddies and there are plenty of puzzles for you to solve.

If you're a fan of first-person-shooters and find it hard to drag yourself away from your games console, Red Sector 2112 provides some captivating blasting fun to take with you anywhere.

Download Red Sector 2112 1.3 in Softonic

I'd love it if all mobile devices were run off clockwork or solar power and didn't have to be charged ever. Unfortunately, this isn't the case and all of us are blighted by the problem of battery failure.

As a result, it's a good idea to take control of your device's power by installing a battery monitoring application. PowerGuard is designed to help you keep track of your battery status, and comes with an impressive range of features to let you do that.

Everything you need is housed neatly within four tabs. The Text tab gives you a breakdown of your charge, including data such as status, current, voltage, and even temperature. The Graphics tab displays the properties of your battery charge over time.

You also get a Control tab, with a range of customisable settings, including auto-start, update interval, and the primary and secondary axis on the graph. Finally, the About tab gives you some basic information abut the program's developer.

Snake Deluxe 2.1-Revamped version of the classic mobile game

http://snake-deluxe.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

If you used to enjoy playing Snake on your old Nokia phone, then you'll love Snake Deluxe.
The object of Snake Deluxe, as with the original, is to guide a serpent around the screen, gobbling up the fruits that appear.

The more fruit you eat, the longer the snake becomes, and therefore the more difficult it is to turn steer him around the screen. Controls are as simple as can be, and merely involve tapping one side of the screen to make the snake turn in that direction.

Snake Deluxe is a little more complex than the original Snake, and it can be a bit too challenging at times, even on easy mode. There are lots of obstacles placed around the screen, which you need to wind your way around in order to avoid losing a life.

There are plenty of power-ups to collect in Snake Deluxe, too, such as presents which shorten the snake and clocks that give you more time.
There's plenty of gameplay in Snake Deluxe.

The full version includes 32 levels set across four worlds, each with a different boss to defeat. There's an adventure mode, with a story you need to finish, and a free mode, where you can choose where you want to play.

Download Snake Deluxe 2.1 in Softonic

ChaseHQ2Evo-Emulate the top rally drivers in this hi-octane race game

http://chasehq2evo.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

Touchtao’s latest offering to the mobile games market, the catchily titled ChaseHQ2Evo is billed by its developer as the ‘most powerful racing mobile game in the world’ – a claim which, while practically unverifiable, says a lot about the opportunities still open in the mobile gaming market.

ChaseHQ2Evo’s installation was the first of several problems we suffered while experimenting with this trial version. The zipped archive for the game contained no installer, and no ‘readme’ file to guide us through the installation process. Actually, installation wasn’t that difficult – we simply extracted the contents of the ZIP file to a new folder within our ‘My Documents’ on our test device and the game worked when executed from there. That said, it isn’t difficult to produce a standard installation dialogue for an application, so its absence was noted.

The next issue we discovered with the game occurred when it was run. For some unexplained reason, ChaseHQ2Evo automatically overrides your Pocket PC’s volume settings (even if your device is muted) and sets them to maximum. While this could be annoying or embarrassing depending on your location, it could prove quite shocking and even dangerous if you already had your headphones on. Users are also warned that even if you alter the game’s settings to reduce the sound effects/music volume, these changes will be discarded when you close the game.

The trial version of ChaseHQ2Evo is limited to one seemingly never ending time-trial race around one track which could be either ‘mountain’ or ‘desert’ (but this is never really made clear). Because of the game’s automatic acceleration feature, your vehicle starts speeding away at frankly unbelievable speed without you ever touching the controls. This can be quite unnerving at first, but it’s an understandable aspect of the controls on a device with only a few buttons. ChaseHQ2Evo is not the first game we’ve seen with this quirky control method, but we wouldn’t complain if it was the last.

Because the speed is uncontrollable (save for a very clunky brake which stops your vehicle dead in its tracks), steering is pretty tricky. The game designers clearly want us to perfect a sliding, drifting method of driving which in reality isn’t the most practical way to win such an easy race. However, practice makes perfect, and once we were used to the heavy steering, we started to hit the rock walls on either side of the track only fifty percent of the time. After completing several laps with our co-driver babbling repetitive and esoteric advice in our ears, we chose to try another game mode… which presented us with exactly the same situation!

To be fair to Touchtao, ChaseHQ2Evo’s graphics aren’t bad. The speed, three dimensional feel and reflections in the game’s environment were all of a decent standard and left little to be desired. Set against the rest of the game’s failings, though, it starts to look like Touchtao have spent a lot of time perfecting their much touted M3D graphics engine at the expense of other key areas of the game. Our verdict is that future versions of Touchtao’s racing title may well be worth a look, but that ChaseHQ2Evo is best avoided.

Download ChaseHQ2Evo in Softonic

Slot Car Racer 1.0-Race tiny cars around a tiny track

http://slot-car-racer.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

In the time before realistic racing videogames and arcade simulators the best way to experience the buzz of driving a fast car around a track was to get a Scalextric set.

I have fond memories of creating elaborate plastic tracks in my bedroom then racing my pals for hours on end.
Slot Car Racer gives you the chance to recreate those halcyon days on your Windows Mobile device.

The game sees you take control of a tiny slot car and pit your wits against the computer. The beauty of this one is that if you don't have to keep getting up to pick up your car when it spins off the track!

Controlling your car is very easy because you only need one button. This is set as the number 2 key but you can change it if you want. It's then a case of holding it down to accelerate and taking your finger off when you want to slow down around a corner.

It takes a lot of practice to be able to complete a lap without flying off on a curve. This is where the game fails somewhat though. Because your oppponent's car rarely comes off the track and has built-in AI to make it speed up if you overtake it, it's virtually impossible to win a race, even on the easiest difficulty setting - something I found very frustrating indeed.

In its favour, there's a lot of customisation options within Slot Car Racer, including a choice of ten tracks, two game modes, and a whopping 60 levels of difficulty.

There's even a track editor for you to design your own courses. The graphics are smart but get a little boring after a while, because the backgrounds rarely change.

Download Slot Car Racer 1.0 in Softonic

Resco Bubbles 1.41-Keep a steady hand to pop the bubbles

http://resco-bubbles.en.softonic.com/pocketpc

I'm always impressed by the creative ways in which developers utilize the movement-sensing G-Sensor feature inside certain Windows Mobile devices. Resco Bubbles is one of those motion-sensitive games that really shines.

Your objective in Resco Bubbles is to pop all of the bubbles that are spread across the screen by rolling a marble. That might sound easy, but the catch is that these bubbles are numbered and you need to burst them in order.

To make the game even more interesting, Resco Bubbles is played across a range of different surfaces, such as wood, carpet, and linolium. The movement and response of the ball differs depending on the terrain.

Resco Bubbles is played by tilting your phone up and down and side to side to move the ball around. You'll need to enter the calibration menu before you start for premium accuracy, but this is fairly straightforward to do.

The game is great fun to play and requires lots of dexterity, although it does get a little repetitive with just five levels, so it might be worth upgrading to the full version. Graphically, Resco Bubbles looks nice, with smooth animation and realistic bubble-popping sound effects, although perhaps the addition of a musical soundtrack would've lifted the game a bit.

Overall though, Resco Bubbles is one of the more appealing G-Sensor-based games.

Download Resco Bubbles 1.41 in Softonic
