AM TasksPlus shows compact tasks statistics or a detailed list of incomplete tasks grouped by date (Actual, Due today, Overdue and Future tasks). Pocket PCs are great and everything but I don't like the fact that I often have to fiddle around with the stylus navigating the menus to find the application or file I need to access.

Thankfully there are a bevy of programs that can improve your productivity by allowing you to access your favourite apps or documents using the softkeys. KeySwop is just one of these, and aside from the misspelt name, I thought it was pretty good.

You get the ability to define a new label for both the left and right softkeys, plus functionality for adding shortcuts to your favourite apps on the "Today" screen. KeySwop's user interface is a little ugly, but nevertheless you can map the keys within just a few clicks.

It's simply a case of selecting your target softkey links using the 'Browse' button before editing the labels if need be. Shortcuts can be added to your Start menu list using the 'Add' button. Click on 'Apply' and your new shortcuts will be set. It's that simple.

If you're fed up with trawling through menu systems to get to your most commonly-used utilities, then KeySwop is ideal.

In case you didn't know, Apple have released a device called the iPhone, which is the greatest phone in the history of the World ever. Apparently. If you want to try out the new technology but are put off by the price of the iPhone, then get FreeStylWM onto your Pocket PC pronto.

The free software adorns your Today screen with a surface designed to look and behave like the Apple mobile. The program is based on the mobile Flash platform, so you'll need this installed, and you'll also need Internet connectivity to hook up to FreeStyl http server.

Pursuing with the lengthily install and setup procedures is well worth it, because the riches that this theme offers are quite incredible. I guess the main boon is the slick Today screen interface, where you're presented with large, iPhone-style icons representing your tasks and applications. The beauty of these is that they enable you to access things without the need for a stylus as they are lare enough to be tapped with a finger.

The amount of configuration options within FreeStylWM is very impressive, allowing you to assign icons to specific programs, choose from a number of Mac-ish wallpapers, select an analog or digital clock display or access new 'applets' for more iPhone functionality on your device, such as Contacts or Weather.

If you want to know what it feels like to use an iPhone, FreeStylWM represents one of the most realistic simulations I've encountered.

If you're the sort of person who gets bored of staring at the same screen on your mobile device then ShantzTodayChanger could be your saviour from boredom. The simple program lets you rotate the themes and background images on your today screen. What I loved is that you can set the rotation frequency yourself to the second.

The app requires no installation, as you simple copy the start-up file into a folder on your PPC. As far as options go, you're pretty much limited to just changing the frequency of displayed images, but overall ShantzTodayChanger is the perfect andedote to mobile boredom.

TodayAgenda displays appointments and tasks on your today screen up to 30 days in advance. It replaces the default Outlook plugin with a lot more features, meaning you never need to miss an important meeting or a date again.

OK, so it's not a huge problem, but certain mobile devices sometimes show the wrong operator name or ID when searching for network coverage.

If you're the kind of nit-picking person (or 'perfectionist' as you might like to call yourself) who is bothered by this then Personalizer could be just the tool for you, because the program lets you change the name of your phone operator.

It's pretty simple to use, and you just need to define the name you want to appear next to the coverage inidicator. You can type in anything you want and the change will be made instantly, meaning that the next time the operator is detected this new text will show up rather than the default operator name.

For correcting operator IDs, it's great, and maybe you'd even like to use it to add a personal touch or a bit of humour to your PDA. For instance, you could perform a play on words with phone operators to raise a chuckle, or input the name of a pet or loved on instead.

I wouldn't exactly say that this is an essential download, as ultimately its functionality is limited to changing one thing, but if you want to correct operator IDs, Personalizer does the job with no fuss.

Birthdays is a plugin for today screen which reminds you birthdays of persons in your contact list. The plugin is very customizable. There are options for size of vertical margins, showing the plugin icon, displaying the age of persons, font size, wrapping long lines and more. You can set up the number of days the plugin will look ahead and/or and show birthdays to you. You can also set the date format to suit your needs.

The plugin will is very small and takes very little space in your PDA. In verbose mode, the plugin shows you dates and names of persons who have birthdays and/or anniversaries. In brief mode, the plugin shows only the number of persons who have birthdays and/or anniverasaries. If you tap the plugin, the window with details is displayed.

Ever wished you could speed up the way your Pocket PC operates? Fed up with trawling through the Start menu to access programs or files? Well, this is your lucky day because Pocket Launcher can help you in both these departments.

The program brings a little more order to the Today screen, providing you with quick access to often-used applications and files from a series of tabs at the bottom of the screen. Each tab is formed of an icon relating to a category such as Games, Tasks, Apps and Docs.

The installation process involves Pocket Launcher sifting through your programs and shortcuts to ensure that everything is correctly formed, so this can take a while. However, the program does include a comprehensive guide to setting up the program and managing its options.

Talking of options, there are plenty to play around with, such as customisable tabs, behavours and Gizmos. Be careful when you're editing the tabs that you don't make the icons too big because they're actually pretty ugly when viewed in large format - this is a world away from the Mac OS Dock.
