Vextractor is a professional software for converting raster images to vector (vectorizer). Vextractor converts drawings, maps and other images, including logos, black-and-white illustrations from raster to vector format.

The program can save converted raster images to the following vector formats: DXF, WMF, EMF, EPS, AI or SVG. Files of these vector formats can be imported to popular vector graphics applications like AutoCAD, Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, and many others.

Paint.NET is an efficient, small, light photo editor with a minimalistic GUI. It's impressive how it can have so many tools in just 1.8MB of space and it uses less then 55 MB of RAM to run. Although it wouldn't be fair to compare it with Photoshop, it is true that many home users will find Paint.NET perfect for their needs and really easy to use.

Unfortunately, it limits you to edit only one image at a time and there are two major features missing: the magnetic lasso for the selection of objects in a picture and support for Twain-scanners/cameras. That said, the program is constantly updated and you can always find different ways to do things.

A very interesting feature is the possibility to install many different plug-ins that you can choose in the program's forum. You can for example install a shape3D tool, a pack of custom brushes, a motion sharpen plug-in and or silhouette tool.

Paint.NET is a very promising photo editor which is good enough for non professional users. Although it lacks some important functions and limits you to work on one picture at a time, it's useful enough for everyday use.

CEKLi PhotoLab is a very small, free photo editor which is useful to have on a USB pen-drive to adjust the size and contrast of your images any time you need to; whether it's before a press conference or at a friend's home after you have just downloaded the photos you took that day.

Apart from than the contrast and the brightness settings, also useful is the white balance function which can make portraits a bit smoother. Other than this the only advantage of the program is its portability as it consists of just one small .EXE file. In order to be more interesting it should really have had a few more features to retouch photos, like quick ways to eliminate red-eye, change color of objects or attaching two photos to make a poster.

CEKLi PhotoLab is an interesting application for people looking to carry out very basic photo editing jobs on the move but it's lacking anything in the way of advanced features.

Diagram Designer is an easy-to-use tool to create all kinds of diagrams, charts and other schematic designs that you can use for different purposes: school lessons, work presentations, design, etc.

The program's interface is very intuitive. Simply drag and drop onto the main working area all the elements you'd like to add to your diagram. You can select them from the menu on the right side of the window, which may vary according to the template you're using – or if you're just starting from scratch. On the left side of the window the program displays a tree-like structure including all the elements added so far to the diagram.

These elements feature basic polygonal shapes, arrows, text fields and the likes, all of them completely resizeable and customizable. There are no bells and whistles here such as animation effects or shadows. On the downside, I found that text is not that easy to change, as you have to use special code variables instead of the standard Windows text customization menu. ¡

With Diagram Designer you can easily create any kind of chart or diagram, as long as you don't need more than polygonal shapes, lines and arrows.

If you need a comprehensive photo manager with image editing tools and browsing capabilities, PhotoPerfect is probably what you're looking for.

This photo suite lets you browse your collection of digital images, either in thumbnails or at full screen size, and improve them in case they need it. The program features a wide selection of editing tools (red eye removal, watermarking tool or noise reduction among others) as well as special effects and filters with which you can make your picture look totally different. You can also see extended information about each photo, including a histogram and EXIF data.

One thing I especially like about PhotoPerfect is the ability to perform macros on your photos and run batch processes such as optimizing images for web publishing, which certainly saves you loads of time and work.

In spite of all these features – and the program's name – PhotoPerfect is not perfect. Its main flaw in my opinion is an overwhelming interface, overloaded with toolbars and endless menus that make the program more difficult to use than it really is.

PhotoFiltre is a complete photo suite with powerful editing tools and special filters, partly ruined by an overloaded interface.

Most of the editing an average user does on digital photos includes color and light adjustments, resizing, cropping and other small tasks. Then why should you use a huge graphic editor when you can use a simple tool like PhotoPad?

With this simple application you can easily apply all those little changes and effects to your pictures. Simply load any image on the program's interface and choose the desired function from a quite varied menu: resize, crop, and adjust light and color, sepia effect, black and white effect, red eye removal and a lot more. All the changes you apply are saved on the window's left pane, which lets you compare the original image to the one you obtain after applying all those effects.

In all, PhotoPad is a nice alternative tool to heavier graphic apps when it comes to do some basic editing, but it needs improvement. The program seemed a bit unstable during our tests and showed strange artifacts. Also, some of its functions are not very well implemented, like the red-eye removal tool.

PhotoPad is a simpler, lighter graphic editing tool that lets you apply basic changes and effects to your photos. On the downside, it still requires further development, especially regarding stability and usability.

Imagelys Picture Styles is surprising tool. Under its rough, basic interface you'll find a quite complete graphic editor which has been specially designed to create textures and background images.

The program includes some default texture templates but also allows you to use your own images. Therefore you'll be able to create seamless patterns from any photo on your computer. The wide variety of filters and special effects featured in the program will enable you to obtain visually striking results with almost no effort.

Imagelys Picture Styles includes support for layers and masks, and even a warping image tool. We do miss, however, having more options when applying filters and a more complete help system.

If you're someone who has a large volume of photographs then Photovault can help you organize, publish and manage them with relative ease. Considering it is free, the program is surprisingly powerful, with the capacity to take thousands of photos and package them neatly into virtual folders. For amateur photographers the program is a dream and includes tools for RAW format conversion, colour correction, cropping, rotating and brightness/contrast balancing.

We were also impressed by the way it allows you to sort your images using the metadata stored within the picture files. Not only does this help you organize your collections by date, but you can also sort on a wide range of other variables, such as location, time of day, name or photographer. Although you won't find many fancy special effects tools within Photovault, the program performs a decent job of whipping your snaps into shape.
