As with the original, Reckless Racing 2 is a top-down driving game in which you need to negotiate a series of twisty tracks in order to win the race. There are lots of game modes to keep you busy in Reckless Racing 2 - a marked improvement on the previous version.

Game modes in Reckless Racing 2

The Career mode in Reckless Racing 2 contains 12 different cups - each consisting of several races over a series of tracks. The higher you place in the races, the more cash you win, which can be used to buy new cars or upgrade your existing car to improve its performance.

There's also an Arcade mode in Reckless Racing 2, which gives you a total of 40 tracks to race on. Each one is a single challenge, such as finishing third or higher, or winning the race. You can only pass to the next track once you've completed the challenge. Cash earned in Arcade mode can be spent in Career mode, too.

If you want a bit more freedom in Reckless Racing 2 then head for Single Event mode. Here you can choose to race on one of six different areas, either as a straight race, hot lap, or elimination event. Again, there are lots of different tracks to race on in Single Event mode.

If all of these single-player modes in Reckless Racing 2 aren't enough for you, then check out the Multiplayer mode. You can race against up to three of your friends or against strangers online, in any of the game modes mentioned above.

Graphics and presentation

The graphics in Reckless Racing 2 are even better than the already excellent visuals of the first game. Menu systems are much slicker and more 'grown-up', as the developer tones down the rather childish, hillbilly theme of the original.

In-game, Reckless Racing 2 looks sublime. The natural backdrops are more gorgeous than ever, with all types of terrain (desert, forest, beach, circuit, etc.) all meticulously crafted in fine detail. The Micro Machines-style viewpoint may seem a strange choice for a mobile game, but you'll instantly fall in love with it.

The techno music soundtrack provides a thumping accompaniment to the on-screen action, although it tires after a while and you'll wish there was more varied music in the game.

Other features of Reckless Racing 2

There are lots of options to tinker with that let you customize your Reckless Racing 2 experience. You can choose between five different control systems, with the option to place buttons anywhere you like on screen. You can also tweak steering sensitivity, enable auto-accelerate, and turn on various assists such as racing line, mini map and pace notes, which tell you when to slow down.

If you're looking for a helping hand to progress quicker through the career mode, Reckless Racing 2 offers the ubiquitous in-app purchase of extra game cash for upgrading your vehicle or buying new cars.

Although it doesn't quite have the same charm as the original game, Reckless Racing 2 is a mighty mobile racing game with few equals.

You can use the Flickr app to view recent activity, add contacts, upload photos from your device or camera, and manage your photostream. The Flickr app also includes a search function for finding people or photos based on a keyword.

The user interface of Flickr for Android is well laid out and kept very simple. It's divided into three areas: 'Activity', 'Contacts', and 'You'. You can flick between these sections by clicking on the tabs or simply swiping the screen.

There's also a camera icon, which allows you to take a photo and upload it directly to Flickr, or to choose an image to upload from your device's gallery. There are a variety of effects you can apply to your images with the Flickr app. However, these are limited and there are no editing tools included.

Viewing your photos in the Flickr app is also very straightforward. You can swipe between photos to browse them, and click on a photo to open it full screen. In full-screen mode you'll find a slideshow tool, which automatically displays your photostream in sequence. Unfortunately, the swiping and slideshow tools don't work when browsing other people's photos that you've searched for.

Although this official Flickr app is very usable, it isn't perfect. Users might experience some glitches with the built-in camera app, which may lead to having to force close the app. The application lacks functionality for uploading more than one image at a time, too, which gets a bit annoying.

Despite its limitations, the Flickr app still makes for an easier way to upload and browse photos than Flickr's mobile site.

When signing into the Flickr app, it will open Safari just to validate your account, but unless you sign out you don't have to do it again. Still, it's a shame sign in is not integrated with the app itself.

Once you're in, Flickr is a very neat app. You can view your photostream, add comments, search for users and view your contacts. There's a tab that gives you your recent activity and uploads on Flickr too. The interface is smooth, fast and intuitive.

Of course, the obvious thing is allowing you to upload pictures from your iPhone, and this couldn't be easier. You can choose an image from your library, or take a new one then just hit upload and it will be added to your photostream in moments. Unfortunately, the iPhone app seems to take some time to learn that your photostream has been updated, which is strange.

Other than refreshing itself, the Flickr app is a slickly-integrated program that makes uploading to Flickr a breeze. To top it all off, you can use GPS to add location data to your pictures, and if you have a 3GS you can upload your videos too.

The Flickr app is a great example of how to integrate with a web service, offering an experience which is both mobile, finger friendly and yet just as rich as the original browser service.

The app has become extremely popular thanks to its nice interface design, ease of use and perfect integration with other social networks. Instagram not only allows you to create great shots out of perfectly ordinary photos, but also share them with a community of followers.

After installing Instagram, you need to create an user account in order to share photos. Right after that, you’re ready to start taking photos and share them online. Besides the Instagram network, you can also post your images to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr and Foursquare – too bad Posterous is not included here.

The best thing about Instagram is the filters included in the program. There are twelve to choose from (Lomo-fi, Earlybird, Lily, Apollo, Nashville, 1977...) with different color, brightness and lighthing effects. If chosen wisely, you can obtain really awesome results.

So, is there a catch? The answer is unfortunately yes. Instagram saves photos at a maximum resolution of 600 x 600 pixels, which makes no sense since the iPhone’s camera is capable of much better quality.

If you don’t mind the low resolution, Instagram is an excellent app to create original, awesome photos and share them online in several social networks.

WordPress for iOS allows you to access your control panel through your mobile in order to manage your self-hosted or WordPress.com blog on the go. Not only does the application let you quickly add a new post, but you can also access and modify existing posts, as well as manage comments.

Another plus point about WordPress for iPhone is that you can upload photos and videos directly from your iOS device to your blog.

The user interface of the WordPress app is very easy to get around, although ultimately the application lacks potency as a serious blogging tool. The reason for this is that there is not support within the GUI for adding text formatting or inserting links, so you'll need to hand code everything if you want anything more than just plain text, pictures and videos.

It's a handy tool for bloggers who are desperate to add content while they're away from their computers, but WordPress for iOS lacks a lot of the power of the web version of the tool .

If you're a fan of crossword puzzles or other word games, 7 Little Words is a fantastic little app to take with you on the go. It'll keep you challenged and test the vocabulary prowess of even the most advanced wordsmiths out there.

Much like what Astraware Sudoku does for numbers, 7 Little Words will challenge the limits of your knowledge of different words. In each puzzle you're given seven clues with which you'll have to figure out the seven mystery words. To help you out, 7 Little Words gives you 20 letter sets. Use these number sets to spell out the mystery word based on the clues you're given. Once you think you've figured out the mystery word, click the "guess" button. If you're right, the clue will be bolded. You can guess the words in whatever order you like.

Once you've figured out all seven mystery words in 7 Little Words, you can move on to the next puzzle. The only real complaint some users might have is that the game's a little repetitive. It would've been nice if 7 Little Words had offered more than just the standard game set-up.

Avid wordsmiths will enjoy 7 Little Words though for its challenging clues and clean interface.

Easy install

uTorrent Remote for Android is a tiny download that won't take up much space on your device's memory. Once it's on your phone, you'll have to open up the desktop client for Mac or PC and set up an account from there - the app doesn't allow you to do this from your mobile device. Located under the "preferences" options, signing up is as easy as choosing a computer name and password. Then open up the uTorrent Remote app on your phone, and you'll be able to control all your torrents remotely.

User-friendly interface

Once inside the app, you'll see that it's very easy to use. Although the uTorrent Remote for Android is simplified, it's still very understandable at first glance. You'll quickly see what's downloading, seeding and completed, as well as your labels and feeds. Clicking on any of the categories will show you the files currently in action, and clicking on any of the files will let you see more details. Of course, uTorrent Remote has clear and simple buttons to pause, delete or view the individual files of any download.

Features

From your menu button, you'll be able to manage additional tasks with uTorrent Remote. Adding the URL of a torrent or feed is achieved via Add, while you can also view local files and logout. uTorrent Remote's settings on your actual Android device are pretty limited, but bear in mind that most of the tweaking will be achieved via the desktop client, so the Android settings don't need to be too advanced. You can, however, limit uTorrent's upload and download speeds, and enable or disable downloads to your phone over 2G and 3G.

A small issue

We only had one issue with uTorrent Remote - it proved to be very buggy at times. This can be frustrating, but was usually remedied by logging in and out of the various clients a few times. Also bear in mind that your home PC or Mac must be on with uTorrent running for the app to work.

If you use uTorrent and have an Android phone, you'd be mad to miss µTorrent Remote.

What's the aim?

The object of Where's My Water? is to help Swampy the hygiene-obsessed alligator take a bath by digging a path for fresh water to run down through the sewers and through his shower head. Hold your finger down and draw a path through the mud to send the water cascading down (or up in some cases!). You can scroll down levels using the somewhat cumbersome slider bar.

Borrowing elements from the classic Pipes puzzle game and more recent water-based puzzlers such as Sprinkle, Where's My Water? challenges you to complete more than 140 different puzzles (just 25 in this free version), each with a different route through to Swampy.

A tough challenge

Completing levels in Where's My Water? isn't as easy as you might think. There are lots of obstacles to negotiate, such as acidic water that will burn Swampy if it touches him, conveyor belts, bridges, barriers, and much more. It's complicated by the rather crude digging controls, which aren't very precise - especially if you have fat fingers!

In each puzzle you should try to collect as many of the three rubber ducks as you can by filling them with water en route. There are also unlockable items and achievements to complete along the way, so there's plenty of gaming to be had in Where's My Water?

How good is it?

Besides having an original and captivating concept, a great game needs to be well executed in its presentation, and Where's My Water? certainly ticks this box. The cartoony graphics are great fun, and the physics of the water is very realistic.

Swampy himself is a real character. We love the way he sings in the shower, complains when not enough water is coming through, and gets so excited when the taps come on. The music in Where's My Water? is very catchy, and unlike many games like this, it rarely gets boring.

Where's My Water? is one of the most enjoyable casual games for iOS, and is challenging enough to keep you playing for hours and hours.

Your mission in Angry Birds is to destroy all the green pigs by catapulting birds at them. This wouldn't be too difficult, except for the fact the hogs are holed up inside fortified castles which you need to smash into in order to enter. As the levels progress, these fortresses become ever more impenetrable, so Angry Birds requires a bit of lateral thinking as well as a steady aim.

Playing the game

To fire one of the angry birds you simply pull back on the catapult, adjust the trajectory, then release your finger. You can shoot four birds per turn, and if you don't destroy every pig then you'll have to start the level again. This free version of Angry Birds includes 15 playable levels. It gets very difficult, very quickly so even this trial version should last you a while.

As well as being great fun to play, Angry Birds looks the part too. Graphics are colorful and fun, and the bird noises and sound effects are hilarious. Playing the game on high resolution screen such as that of the HTC Desire is a real dream.

Challenging, fun and great to look at, Angry Birds is one of the best Android casual games you'll find.

This app stands out for its ease of use and intuitiveness. Songbird automatically detects and organizes your music, and presents it for listening in a simple, well-thought out interface that reminded us of Spotify, but better!

Songbird has all the usual suspects – playlists, a good search function, a now playing window that supports album artwork, etc. It’s easy to navigate through your music using the buttons at the top of the app, and shuffle and repeat are easily accessible through the now playing window. Touching the Songbird icon will bring you to the main screen.

Among Songbird’s nicest features – apart from the design – is the availability of a homescreen widget, and the presence of lockscreen controls, so you don’t have to unlock your phone to control your music. On the downside, it has very, very few options. This will probably be a plus to some users, but most will miss the ability to carry out even very basic tweaks, like equalizing their music.

Songbird is a great music player – it’s just a shame it’s not slightly more advanced.

Justin.tv has a standard iPhone interface, with a central scrollable part, and option bar at the bottom. There are Featured channels, Favorites, Search, About, and More tabs. If you have an account, you can import your favorite channels, otherwise you can build your own as you explore the video content.

While watching a channel you can chat with other viewers. Once you've created a Justin.tv account, you can also save and share channels you like. Sharing will open your mail app, so you can send the link to your friends. Twitter and Facebook integration is missing here!

The app works fairly well. Occasionally it crashes and will shut down, but it's not too bad. Now Justin.tv version 2 has introduced is the ability to broadcast from your iPhone's camera - this makes it a really cool application as it's so easy to get into. Broadcasting on the move could hardly be easier!

Justin.tv is slightly unstable, but a pretty good live TV streaming app nonetheless.

This official Android Wordpress client brings the power of the blogging platform to the palm of your hand (well, a little bit of that power, anyway). Essentially, it's a tool for quickly adding and editing posts, checking comments and creating pages.

The Wordpress user interface is pretty easy to get around, making use of tabs to section off comments, posts and pages. Instead of just tapping an item to view it, you need to hold your finger on it for a couple of seconds, before you're presented with a pop-up Actions menu.

Editing posts in this Wordpress client is pretty straightforward, although you are very limited in what you can do. There are few formatting shortcuts, no visual/HTML differentiation, and the category selection menu doesn't seem to work at all. There is a button to add pictures stored on your phone to your posts but, bizarrely, the alignment options are found in the main system settings rather than in the Post window.

You won't find any options for editing your Wordpress account settings. In fact, there are no advanced tools or options in the app at all.

Wordpress for Android makes it pretty easy to post if you're desperate to blog while you're out and about. However, at the moment it's severely lacking in features.

Players control Steakfries as he reclaims the machine gun jetpack seen in Monster Dash and attempts to go the distance again. Jetpack Joyride is a distance arcade game, keeping track of how far players get while avoiding hazards and collecting coins.

Jetpack Joyride uses the same style as previous Barry Steakfries games with the cartoon and slightly 8-bit visual style. The game has a specific graphic look that is immediately recognizable for a Halfbrick Studios game. Audio in Jetpack Joyride is also great with a soundtrack that matches the quick gameplay.

The one-touch gameplay is simple. The longer players hold their finger, the higher Steakfries will hover in the side-scrolling level. Jetpack Joyride features electronic gates, missiles, and lasers that all try to stop the player from accumulating more distance.

Jetpack Joyride features an upgrade system where players can purchase new jetpacks, character skins, and power-ups that can be used in-game.

Another excellent addition are the tokens that are collected in Jetpack Joyride. Used in a slot machine, players will randomly be rewarded different power-ups like extra coins, revival power-ups, or bombs that will extend Steakfries’ distance after the player has died in a level.

While coins are collected in-game, Jetpack Joyride also features in-app purchases. Player can purchase coins to buy items and even purchase completed missions. It is a different progression style than seen before.

Jetpack Joyride is much more than a simple distance arcade game. Players will level while playing. Completing the various challenges give coin bonuses as they level up. The challenges are varied and challenging, increasing the replayability of Jetpack Joyride.

Jetpack Joyride is the perfect distance arcade game. The game offers much more than just trying to get the farthest distance in one session. The challenges are extremely fun and challenging while the upgrade store contains some of the best purchasable content of any game.

Jetpack Joyride is a required game for iOS and another solid game for Halfbrick Studios.

Once you've installed the program on your device, you'll need to sign up for a free Evernote account. After this short registration process you'll be presented with a very clear and touch-friendly interface. From here, you're just a tap away from adding a text note, a handwritten ink note, taking a snapshot on your camera, recording an audio note, or uploading a file.

The revamped Evernote interface in this fourth version of the app makes adding and managing notes very simple. Touch the plus button and you can add a quick note, with one-click options for adding tags, location tagging, in-line voice recording and adding pictures by taking a snapshot or browsing your Camera Roll.

Evernote for iPhone makes it so easy to peruse your notes. You can view all notes in a timeline, browse by notebook or tags, or search through all your notes using keywords.

Now, whenever you don't have your iPhone in hand you'll be able to access any notes or files you've added in Evernote from any web browser. These can then be edited, deleted, printed or emailed at your leisure. Personally, I found the layout of the online interface quite uncomfortable - unlike the hand-held version of Evernote, the text is very small, and the strange menu system makes browsing through your items overly complicated.

From the browser-based version of Evernote you can add notes and files like with the device version. There's also a 'web clipping' tool, available as a Firefox plug-in, which lets you quickly grab web pages as you browse and save them to Evernote.

All in all, Evernote is a powerful productivity app that ensures you're never far away from your important information.

The problem however, is that the light on most devices then goes out again after a few seconds, meaning you need to keep pressing buttons or opening and closing the device to keep the light constant. OI Flashlight solves this problem by permanently keeping your backlight on to give you a constant source of light.

One great thing about OI Flashlight is that it allows you to select a background color for the light. You can select precisely the shade you want from a color wheel, then this color is permanently lit on your screen. Changing the color is useful because it helps your natural night vision. After using white light, it takes longer for your night vision to be restored to normal than it does if you're using red light, for example.

The only bad thing about OI Flashlight is that it quickly sucks up battery, so be sure to deactivate it when you can to preserve power, or you could find yourself shrouded in darkness at a crucial moment.

If your schedule is jam-packed with work, school or other "distractions" and makes it difficult to keep up with your favorite television shows, or even take in a movie once in a while, Hulu Plus will help you get back on track. An impressive number of different television show episodes and movies are available for viewing on Hulu Plus.

Hulu Plus has a simple interface that's easy to navigate and search for your favorite shows. Different types of media are divided by categories, such as movies, television shows, clips and trailers. You can add shows you want to watch at a later date onto your Hulu Plus queue and can sync it from different Hulu devices, making it a perfect compliment to Hulu Desktop for your PC. Shows can be watched with a 3G (or higher) or WiFi connection. The picture quality of the content was also great on the iPad it was tested on.

The Hulu Plus app is free through the iTunes App Store. Unfortunately, to make use of the actual service, there's a monthly subscription fee. Thankfully, it's pretty comparable with Netflix's fee if you're looking for an alternative way to watch media. Plus, you can try the service for a few minutes for free after installing the app to decide whether it's worth it. The only downside is that not all television shows are available on Hulu Plus and even when they are, sometimes full seasons aren't available.

Hulu Plus is a fantastic app for viewing anything from television shows to movies on your mobile device.
