Google Sky Map 1.6.4-Navigate the night sky

http://google-sky-map.en.softonic.com/android

Google Sky Map helps you to explore the Universe using your Android phone.

<taglink type="program" country="en" id="117532">Google Maps</taglink> is great for showing you what's around you. However, it doesn't give you the full picture because it only displays locations on ground level. If you want to see what's happening up above then install Google Sky Map on your Android.

This practical app lets you pinpoint the exact location of the stars, planets and other celestial objects in the night sky. Simply point your phone at the sky and you'll see details of exactly what's up there represented by a map in Google Sky Map.

As you move your phone around, the map moves with you to show what part of the Universe you're pointed at. It does this using GPS, the internal compass, and the current date and time. Google Sky Map also has a manual mode that lets you explore the map with your finger rather than it auto-detecting the data based on where you're pointing your phone.

Google Sky Map is wonderfully simple to use thanks to its clear display. You can choose to show or hide various layers on the map such as stars, constellations, and planets. The program also features a handy zoom tool.

The search feature in Google Sky Map allows you to look up objects in the night sky in a flash. Unfortunately, the app only shows you where they are, rather than giving you any information about the stars and planets you're looking at.

Google Sky Map offers a fascinating way to explore the night sky and discover the celestial wonders above us.

Download Google Sky Map 1.6.4 in Softonic

Bubble 2.0.1-Handy spirit level on your phone

http://bubble.en.softonic.com/android

If you work in the building trade or are a DIY enthusiast then here is an app that might make your life easier.

Bubble is a free spirit level for your Android phone. Simply install the app on your phone and you've always got a way to measure if a surface is straight or not. You can use any side of the phone to measure the angle of a surface. Just rest the edge of the phone against the surface and keep an eye on the bubble. You can also measure a surface by laying your phone face up on the surface. If the bubble is dead in the center of the gage then the surface is flat. If it's not flat then the position of the bubble to the left of right of the center will indicate how off it is.

Before you start, you should calibrate Bubble so that the readings are accurate. This is very easy and is achieved merely by resting each side of your phone against a surface you know is straight then pressing the Calibrate button.

There are a number of settings you can tweak to make Bubble more effective. For instance, you can choose to show the numeric value of the angle, enable beeps or buzzers that play when a surface is level, or switch to a black background.

I have few criticisms of Bubble, other than that it would've been good to be able to change the color of the liquid in the spirit level, and maybe choose from some more background.

But if you want to measure the angle of a surface without rushing out to the hardware store, Bubble makes for a reliable and easy solution.

Download Bubble 2.0.1 in Softonic

NASA App 1.40-Follow your favorite space missions!

http://nasa-app.en.softonic.com/iphone

If you're a interested in space exploration, this NASA app for iPhone is a must.

This app basically allows you to follow all of NASA's missions. The main screen lists the missions you can follow, and touching any of them takes you to a description of the mission with a counter for the time elapsed since the mission started.

For each mission you can view photos, videos, check for updates and in some cases track their orbiting position. This is particularly nice if you're interested in looking for, say, the International Space Station at night, as you can see when it'll be passing over your location. It's also possible to link the app with your email, so you can send interesting bits to other people.

This isn't the flashiest application on the iPhone, but it's well organized, easy to navigate and effective. There are no configuration options, but it hardly needs them. It would be nice if there were more detailed information about the missions outside our orbit - you can't currently see where these space craft are in their journeys.

The NASA app for iPhone keeps you up to date with missions and important NASA news, alongside some neat tools.

Download NASA App 1.40 in Softonic
