With so many Twitter clients for mobile devices out there, it can be really hard to know where to start when you're looking for the perfect app. TweetCaster is a good option - as well as having all of the tweeting, retweeting and profile management features you would expect, it has an attractive interface and support for multiple accounts.

The TweetCaster Android app is really easy to use. Timeline navigation is fast and glitch-free, and mentions, direct messages and lists are easily accessed via the icons across the top. Tweet by hitting the icon in the top right, and access the homescreen by hitting the icon in the top left. From here you will be able to easily swap between your linked accounts, add new ones, follow trends and search for tweets, users and nearby content.

TweetCaster's configuration options cover all the basics, from various appearance options to which URL shortener or image service to use. We don't think TweetCaster's the most attractive app on the market, but that's a very personal opinion. Try it - you might like it!

WordPress for iOS allows you to access your control panel through your mobile in order to manage your self-hosted or WordPress.com blog on the go. Not only does the application let you quickly add a new post, but you can also access and modify existing posts, as well as manage comments.

Another plus point about WordPress for iPhone is that you can upload photos and videos directly from your iOS device to your blog.

The user interface of the WordPress app is very easy to get around, although ultimately the application lacks potency as a serious blogging tool. The reason for this is that there is not support within the GUI for adding text formatting or inserting links, so you'll need to hand code everything if you want anything more than just plain text, pictures and videos.

It's a handy tool for bloggers who are desperate to add content while they're away from their computers, but WordPress for iOS lacks a lot of the power of the web version of the tool .

Easy install

uTorrent Remote for Android is a tiny download that won't take up much space on your device's memory. Once it's on your phone, you'll have to open up the desktop client for Mac or PC and set up an account from there - the app doesn't allow you to do this from your mobile device. Located under the "preferences" options, signing up is as easy as choosing a computer name and password. Then open up the uTorrent Remote app on your phone, and you'll be able to control all your torrents remotely.

User-friendly interface

Once inside the app, you'll see that it's very easy to use. Although the uTorrent Remote for Android is simplified, it's still very understandable at first glance. You'll quickly see what's downloading, seeding and completed, as well as your labels and feeds. Clicking on any of the categories will show you the files currently in action, and clicking on any of the files will let you see more details. Of course, uTorrent Remote has clear and simple buttons to pause, delete or view the individual files of any download.

Features

From your menu button, you'll be able to manage additional tasks with uTorrent Remote. Adding the URL of a torrent or feed is achieved via Add, while you can also view local files and logout. uTorrent Remote's settings on your actual Android device are pretty limited, but bear in mind that most of the tweaking will be achieved via the desktop client, so the Android settings don't need to be too advanced. You can, however, limit uTorrent's upload and download speeds, and enable or disable downloads to your phone over 2G and 3G.

A small issue

We only had one issue with uTorrent Remote - it proved to be very buggy at times. This can be frustrating, but was usually remedied by logging in and out of the various clients a few times. Also bear in mind that your home PC or Mac must be on with uTorrent running for the app to work.

If you use uTorrent and have an Android phone, you'd be mad to miss µTorrent Remote.

This official Android Wordpress client brings the power of the blogging platform to the palm of your hand (well, a little bit of that power, anyway). Essentially, it's a tool for quickly adding and editing posts, checking comments and creating pages.

The Wordpress user interface is pretty easy to get around, making use of tabs to section off comments, posts and pages. Instead of just tapping an item to view it, you need to hold your finger on it for a couple of seconds, before you're presented with a pop-up Actions menu.

Editing posts in this Wordpress client is pretty straightforward, although you are very limited in what you can do. There are few formatting shortcuts, no visual/HTML differentiation, and the category selection menu doesn't seem to work at all. There is a button to add pictures stored on your phone to your posts but, bizarrely, the alignment options are found in the main system settings rather than in the Post window.

You won't find any options for editing your Wordpress account settings. In fact, there are no advanced tools or options in the app at all.

Wordpress for Android makes it pretty easy to post if you're desperate to blog while you're out and about. However, at the moment it's severely lacking in features.

Much like other music streaming apps, Pandora Radio will stream music suggestions for you based on the library you already have available on your mobile device. If you like the song, you can give it a thumbs up. Pandora Radio will proceed to provide you with more similar music recommendations. You can also block certain songs from ever playing again in one, simple click, which is also a nice feature. In addition to music recommendations, Pandora Radio has a wide variety of music categories from which to choose that range from rap to holiday tunes.

What sets Pandora Radio back on a competitive level is that you have to endure short advertisements on occasion between songs. This isn't the case for other popular music streaming apps like Last.fm. In addition, some songs repeat themselves within a very short time span. If you like them, fine. If not, the repeats can cause a bit of annoyance. Also, if your internet connection is weak, Pandora Radio might freeze up from time to time, causing a less than pleasant music listening experience.

Pandora Radio is a decent music streaming app, if you're willing to endure ads and song repeats on occasion.

With the Flash Player plug-in installed on your device, you will automatically be able to load Flash videos, animation, games and applications from the web. Android's support for Flash Player gives Google's operating system an advantage over big rival Apple, whose iOS system still doesn't support Adobe Flash.

While there are many web browsers for Android, the beta of Chrome is easily the fastest. Much like its partner for desktops, Chrome is dedicated to loading websites and allowing you to browse quickly.

If you have used Chrome before, Chrome on Android will be familiar. The interface is optimized for small screens and most websites load in their native versions, meaning you are not going to be looking at mobile versions of sites.

Chrome connects to your Google account and can import your bookmarks. The connected accounts also send pages from desktop Chrome to your device to read later.

Text heavy sites are easy to read and do not require a lot of zooming. Chrome’s scaling of pages is very intelligent and does not skew text in favor of sidebars.

Looking at YouTube and Vimeo, Chrome had no problems opening and playing video. YouTube opens into full screen in landscape mode and it was possible to play a video inside Chrome on the Vimeo website.

Tabbed browsing in Chrome is the best available on any mobile browser. In Tab view, tabs sit behind each other, shifting up and down as you tile your device. There is no lag between opening different tabs and even with six tabs; Chrome was still able to open content within a couple seconds.

Chrome’s simplicity and performance shoots it past any other browser available.

This free chat app is supported by ads, but fortunately they are really not intrusive, and you'll hardly notice them at all. Like any messaging client you need an account, which means first creating an eBuddy account before adding other web messengers.

eBuddy supports lots of networks - MSN, Yahoo!, AIM, Google Talk, Facebook, ICQ, MySpace and Hyves. Adding them to the app is as simple as entering your details, and you'll be automatically signed in. All your account contacts will be listed alphabetically, in online and offline groups. This is fine, but if you're signed into lots of services it can get pretty busy!

eBuddy is very user friendly, and you'll have no problems opening chats with your friends. Each service varies slightly, but in general, chats follow the 'bubble' design seen in the iPhone's SMS app. It works in portrait or landscape, great for people who like the larger keyboard.

eBuddy is a functional and attractive messaging client, offering a good range of networks in an easy to use package.

Twitterrific's interface is really clean, intuitive and fast. As well as checking your Twitter feed, you can search, see the latest tweets on Twitter globally, and follow the latest trends. All its features are accesible easily from the main interface, and it is just as comfortable as tweeting from your PC or Mac.

Twitterrific also supports multiple accounts, defined auto-refreshes of your feed, and checking links in tweets is really well integrated. There are options to change the appearance too, as well as three settings for font size. You can also post your location and easily tweet images taken on your iPhone.

It's a really attractive application, whatever your settings are. In this free version, you will see some advertisements, but they really don't get in the way of what is a very clear and concise Twitter application.

Twitterrific is certainly one of the best Twitter applications out there for iPhone.

Essentially, Opera Mobile looks and feels like Opera Mini for Android, retaining the same user interface and offering all the great features of that program.

The main difference between the two browsers is the way web pages are rendered by the software. Opera Mini serves compressed versions of pages from the Opera servers in order to speed up loading times. Opera Mobile on the other hand, renders the full HTML of the page, making it slower to load pages, but significantly improving the quality of images and other multimedia elements on the page. The Turbo option within Opera Mobile lets you switch to the compressed page mode if you want to speed things up.

Apart from this, Opera Mobile is virtually identical to Opera Mini. This means you get a very comfortable user interface, with Speed Dial feature, whereby you can set one-click shortcuts for up to nine of your favorite sites. Support for tabs means you can have several pages running and once, flicking between them using an elegant thumbnail preview bar.

Viewing an moving around pages with Opera Mobile is a delight. You can pinch to zoom into an area of the page, then instantly snap back to full screen view with the touch of a button.

Other features of Opera Mobile include bookmarks, download manager, mobile or desktop views, and a Google search bar (unfortunately you can't change this to another search engine, though). The Opera Link feature in Opera Mobile allows you to sync your bookmarks, start page, history, etc. with your desktop version of Opera.

The latest version of Opera Mobile for Android now supports Flash content, as well as HTML 5 audio and video, making it great for enjoying interactive rich web content.

It would be neat if, like Firefox Mobile, Opera Mobile included support for add-ons. The ability for third party developers to extend the functionalities of the app would be a very welcome one.

Opera Mobile isn't the quickest of Android web browsers, but its slick interface design and useful features make it well worth a try.

This free version of UberSocial lets you access your Twitter feeds and post tweets with the minimum amount of hassle. The program's home screen displays a list of the latest tweets of the people you're following, which automatically updates as well as UberSocial's star feature - the Überbar!

The Überbar

Clicking on a tweet pulls up a menu with a wealth of options for responding, including Reply, Show Profile, Favorite, Retweet and Retweet with comment. UberSocial also displays lists of mentions and direct messages. The Überbar, however, is the star of the show, giving you access to a wealth of features via the slideable icons at the bottom of the screen. Down here, you'll be able to see your mentions, DMs, search, trending topics, mute user options and much more. Even better, the Überbar is completely customizable.

To post a new tweet in UberSocial you just click the speech bubble then type your message. You can also quickly capture and add photos and video from your camera, or select an existing image or video file that's stored on your device. UberSocial will automatically set up the link in yFrog for you, and there's a one-click URL shortener too.

More extras

One of the great things about UberSocial is the amount of customization it gives you. There are options for adjusting the way you are notified of new tweets, along with a series of in-depth display and URL-shortening options.

Another great feature of this latest version of UberSocial is Live Preview. Turn your Android device on its side and a new kind of display will appear. Here you can view new tweets in a panel on the left, and a preview of any web pages linked to in the larger pane next to it.

UberSocial is an excellent Twitter client for Android, and one that gives you a great deal of control over your Twitter experience.

xScope Browser - Web & File is also a file explorer, saving you from installing a separate app like Astro for examining your files. From an aesthetic point of view, xScope Browser - Web & File is modern, slick and skinnable, but you'll have to download the extra themes separately.

Using the browser - and tabbed browsing - is especially comfortable when you hold the phone horizontally, although anyone with fat finger syndrome might struggle with both tabs and options.

Although xScope Browser - Web & File boasts a file explorer, we have to admit that it's not the most impressive. While it might sometimes be handy to take a look at your files from inside your browser, the feature isn't very flexible, simply allowing you to browse, copy and send. If you're looking to do any real file management, we recommend that you look elsewhere.

In all xScope Browser - Web & File is a nice app. While it won't be knocking apps like Dolphin or Miren off their thrones, it's a very usable option and well worth a look if other browsers aren't to your liking. It's easy to use, has plenty of options and the file explorer is a nice touch - as long as you aren't looking for serious power.

While not the strongest contender in the Android browser pack, xScope Browser - Web & File is a very decent option.

Focused on providing a direct and simple mobile web experience, QQ Browser does not rely on appearance but functionality. The app features an integrated download manager and tabbed browsing as well as other functions for a full-fledged experience.

Simplicity is what makes the app work so well. But if you are looking for something more visual, QQ Browser is not the browser you are looking for. That is the only main disappointment with QQ Browser. The visual elements of the app are simple and plain.

If you know what you're looking for, then using the Amazon.com application is very straightforward. You can enter a search from the home page or browse through the latest top daily deals from Amazon.com. A simple and well organized shopping basket and checkout feature allows you to complete purchases very quickly through the Amazon Mobile app.

Sign into your account through Amazon Mobile and you'll be able to access many of your favorite Amazon features, including wish lists, order history, 1-Click, and package tracking.

One thing we felt was missing from Amazon Mobile is the ability to browse through categories. Often shoppers don't come to Amazon with a specific idea of what they're looking for, so for these people the app is slightly lacking.

The Amazon Remembers feature in Amazon Mobile is a handy tool, designed to let you search for products by snapping a picture of an item or scanning the barcode with your phone. Described by Amazon as an 'experimental' feature, Amazon Remembers didn't work perfectly every time in our tests.

On the whole though, Amazon Mobile makes for a fast, simple way to browse the online store from your mobile - if you know what you want!

How does Firefox look on a mobile?

The browser bears very little resemblance to the desktop version of Firefox, but it does adopt some of the great features made famous by the browser. For instance, pages can be opened simultaneously in the form of tabs, which you access by sliding the screen across to reveal a panel on the left-hand side. Tabs can be opened, closed and switched around as easily as they can in Firefox.

Like the desktop version, Firefox for Android also includes support for extensions, or Mobile Add-ons, as they're known in this case. These allow you to power up the Android browser with more functionality.

What makes it different from other mobile browsers?

Some of the cool tools on offer include YouTube Video Search, which lets you hunt for clips on the popular streaming site; TwitterBar, which lets you tweet from the Fennec address bar; and AdBlock Plus, which removes adverts from your browsing experience.

Other useful tools pre-built into Firefox for Android include a slick bookmarks manager, address auto-complete, and a customizable start page. Zooming in and out of pages has improved a lot since the early alpha release of Firefox Mobile, or Fennec, as it was called. Now you can pinch to zoom, or double-tap for a quick in/out, making page navigation effortless.

Another neat feature of Firefox for Android is its support for Firefox Sync. This grants you access to all the bookmarks, history and running tabs of the desktop version of Firefox, so you don’t have to worry about entering addresses manually.

Problems with Firefox for Android

Firefox for Android does have its shortcomings, however. The most notable omission is support for Flash, meaning that streaming media and accessing interactive Flash, built sites is a no-no. This is a shame, although the browser does have support for HTML 5.

The app is quite chunky too, weighing in at around 14Mb, which is a lot for a mobile app. It is possible to move it to your SD storage card and run it right off of there.

Firefox promises to be faster than previous versions of the browser, and in our tests we observed a tangible difference in load times than the previous version.

Firefox Mobile is a very good Android browser and it makes for a comfortable way to use the web on your phone.

Depending on how you use Twitter, the limits of the social program are almost endless. By sharing thoughts, videos, pictures, and links in 140 characters, Twitter is the quickest sharing tool to a huge audience.

Using Twitter on Windows Phone 7 is different because it copies the same theme that the operating system has. Unlike other versions, most functions are performed with swiping the screen left or right to browse the different sections like mentions, lists, and direct messages.

Photos can be shared through different services like Twitpic or yfrog and links are now shortened with Twitter’s own link shortening service.

There are practically more browsers for Android phones than there are phone models themselves, but if you still haven’t found the one for you, check out UC Browser.

UC Browser has a number of features that help it stand out. For a start, the home page has a selection of quick-access links, helpfully divided into topic areas, like Entertainment and UC's own recommendations. It goes without saying that there's also tabbed browsing, and plenty of tab management options. It's also got a nice window browse function, and a bunch of options that display clearly when your hit the Menu key.

UC Browser also has a number of features that other browsers don’t – namely a night mode and share by SMS/Whatsapp. Even so, it doesn’t have any quick features for sharing by other, more common means, like Twitter or Facebook.

Unfortunately, UC Browser’s main problem is the display - it’s plain ugly. Ok, so it’s clear and easy to read, but webpages viewed with the app look like something from 1993 – at first, we thought we had a connection problem! We also had issues displaying video while using UC Browser, but couldn’t tell from the developer’s website which video formats are supposed to be supported.

UC Browser is a mixed bag – strong in areas, and weak in others. We think prospective users would be better off waiting an update or two before trying.

Not only can you send instant messages with BlackBerry Messenger, but you can also add images, video, voice notes. You can share stuff with BBM such as events, the song you're listening to, and your current location on a map. The app makes for a good alternative to SMS because you don't need to pay per message. Instead, communication is made via your 3G or WiFi internet connection.

Using BlackBerry Messenger is a real joy, thanks to its well ordered user interface. It displays lists of your contacts complete with thumbnail images, and allows you to create groups to chat with different people at the same time. BlackBerry Messenger has a Group Barcode feature, which lets you join a person's group simply by scanning a QR code.

One of the few downsides to note with BlackBerry Messenger is that not all the features are available on all BlackBerry operating systems, so if you're running an older version of BlackBerry OS, you won't get access to all of BBM's tools.

BlackBerry Messenger is a powerful, easy-to-use chat client for your device, and is one of the must-have applications for BlackBerry users.

The Twitter app is neat and compact in its design. A toolbar across the top of the interface provides shortcuts to various things you might like to do on Twitter. There are icons linking to: Home (the timeline), Mentions, Lists, Profile, Messages, Find People, Twitter Search and Trends.

All in all, each of these various sections of Twitter for BlackBerry are well implemented and easy to use. However, the timeline feels like it still needs a bit of work to make it more usable. By default you can only view two tweets on screen at a time, and there's no scroll bar to indicate how far down the timeline you are. Scrolling all the way back up can become a painful and irritating process. It would be nice if there were a button to jump straight back to the top.

Tweeting from the official BlackBerry Twitter client is a much more user friendly experience. You can type your tweet directly into the tweet box on the home page and add photos by clicking on the icon below this box. Photos are automatically uploaded to YFrog. Disappointingly, automatic URL shortening is not built into the Twitter client.

Twitter for BlackBerry integrates with your phone's messages inbox, allowing you to receive notifications of replies and mentions without having to open the app.

There are plenty of options to tinker with in the Twitter BlackBerry client. You can play around with the fonts, set geo-tagging onto your tweets, change the number of tweets per refresh, alter the refresh rate, and more.

On the whole, the official BlackBerry Twitter client makes for a simple and reliable way to follow and tweet from your device.
