Opera Mini 6.5-Surf the web faster on your mobile

http://opera-mini.en.softonic.com/java

Opera Mini is a mobile web browser designed to help you browse the web in comfort and at high speeds on your phone.

New features in Version 6

Version 6 of the pint-sized program has borrowed much more from its desktop-based big brother, so if you enjoy using Opera on your PC or Mac then you can now look forward to a similarly smooth ride on your mobile with Opera Mini.

The user interface in Opera Mini 6 is more usable than ever. The hub of the app is the Speed Dial feature, whereby you can set one-click shortcuts for up to nine of your favorite sites. Just like in the desktop version, these display thumbnail previews of the sites to make things as clear and simple as possible.

Opera Mini utilizes a tab-based interface, meaning that you can load multiple pages at once simply by clicking on the plus arrow in the top right-hand corner. Version 6 includes the ability to open links in the background, just by holding down a link and selecting 'Open in new tab'.

Navigating with Opera Mini

Other navigational aids include an auto-complete feature in the address bar, and a built-in search bar. Unfortunately this search bar only supports Google and is not customizable with other search engines.

Viewing pages in Opera Mini 6 is a delight. As with the previous version, you can opt to view the whole web page on screen or simply tap to zoom in to a particular area. The latest version finally adds support for pinch-to-zoom, provided you have a multi-touch device that supports this feature. If not, you can zoom incrementally.

Other features

For those who love to tinker around with stuff, Opera Mini 6 is sure to please because the program is simply rammed with options. You can alter image quality, font size, and screen orientation, and there is a wealth of privacy settings too. As you'd expect, there's support for bookmarks and browser history, too. Opera Mini 6 also adds support for sharing links via Facebook, Twitter or email.

Unlike the latest desktop version, Opera Mini doesn't support extensions. This is a shame, because it would be great if developers could add functionality to the browser through third party plug-ins, as they can with Firefox Mobile.

Load times in Opera Mini are as impressive as ever thanks to Opera's unique server-side rendering technology. It compresses images and graphical elements before delivering them to you. This makes pages quicker to load, and is ideal for those who pay for data by the KB. If you want a more all-singing, all-dancing web experience then try Opera Mobile instead, which doesn't compress pages like Opera Mini, and which supports HTML 5.

Opera Mini 6 is one of the leanest mobile browsers around, delivering pages quickly but not skimping on features.

Download Opera Mini 6.5 in Softonic

UC Browser 8.2.1.144-Slick, feature-rich mobile Web browser

http://uc-browser.en.softonic.com/java

UC Browser is designed to make mobile Web access quicker and more convenient. It's a pretty lightweight application that manages to cram in a number of interesting features without slowing down your browsing experience too much.

What's special about UC Browser?

If you find the web browser on your phone to be a little clunky then give UC Browser a try. Viewing WAP and web sites in UC Browser is a painless experience thanks to its multiple windows, which allow you to have several pages loaded at once in much the same way as tabs in Firefox.

You can flick between the pages simply by tapping the Switch button, and open, close and bookmark pages using keypad shortcuts. UC Browser gives you a lot of control over page layout, too. You can choose to view pages in full screen, tweak the font size, zoom images, and tweak image quality.

Features of UC Browser

UC Browser has a number of interesting tools that you don't normally see in a mobile Web browser, such as an integrated download manager, built-in Clipboard for simple copy and paste, and a start page with a number of preset links to a range of categorized web sites. Of course, there's full support for bookmarks too.

There's a simple, yet effective Search tool within UC Browser that facilitates quick searching through Google, Bing or Yahoo!, allowing you to choose which search engine the browser uses.

UC Browser is a proxy-based browser, which re-renders and compresses page data on a server before sending it to the client (in much the same as Opera Mini and Skyfire do). This makes it exceptionally quick at loading pages. Unfortunately, it seems that image rendering is sacrificed somewhat in this process, and often you'll find that images won't display properly, which can get annoying.

Overall though, UC Browser makes for a quick and easy way to explore the riches of the Web from your phone.

Download UC Browser 8.2.1.144 in Softonic

Bolt 2.5-Lightning fast mobile web browser

http://bolt.en.softonic.com/java

The Bolt browser has now been discontinued by the developer. You can download the latest version of Bolt from Softonic, though we cannot guarantee it will function correctly, and no technical support will be available.

Bolt is a fast mobile web browser, crammed with features that give you more of a desktop-feeling web browsing experience.

The Bolt browser supports many of the latest web technologies, including FLV Flash video and HTML5. This means you can use it to watch YouTube clips on your phone, as well as access streaming video on sites such as MySpace, MTV and MetaCafe.

In our tests, we found Bolt to be significantly faster than the default BlackBerry and S60 browsers, and almost as quick as Opera Mini. Unlike Opera Mini though, Bolt doesn't tinker around with the content, and displays pages as they were intended to be viewed on a desktop browser.

Bolt has many helpful features, including tabbed browsing (though you can only have three tabs open at once), a cool, customizable favorites page, and a built-in RSS feed reader. We were also impressed by the Web Apps feature in Bolt, which allows you to install widgets for things like weather, Twitter profiles, dictionaries, etc.

Although Bolt is easy enough to navigate, it lacks the intuitive page zoom controls of Opera Mini. Instead of just tapping to zoom in, you have to root around in the settings menu to adjust the zoom level.

Overall though, Bolt is an excellent mobile web browser. It's fast, reliable and has good support for internet video.

Download Bolt 2.5 in Softonic

UC Browser 8.0.3.107-Text friendly browser for Symbian

http://ucweb.en.softonic.com/symbian

UC Browser is a workable internet browser for Symbian.

With browsing sites online, one of the biggest concerns is the time it takes for pages to load. UC Browser works well in quickly processing sites for quick viewing, and it actually is not the software that makes viewing a problem, it is the hardware.

UC Browser can easily reformat sites to fit the screen on various Symbian devices, but the problem is that most sites cannot easily be viewed in portrait mode and most sites have to be read in landscape view.

Supporting tabbed browsing, UC Browser is a workable browser. It is not the most full functioned browser released, but if reading text is the goal, then UC Browser is the best browser to use. It does not work well with a site including a lot of multimedia as that slows page loading down noticeably.

Simplicity is the most important trait of UC Browser. The main screen contains a simplistic layout with customizable quick tabs. Website will display differently from their desktop versions, so do not be surprised with the large visual difference in the browser.

UC Browser is a easy to use web browser that functions with a text friendly interface.

Download UC Browser 8.0.3.107 in Softonic

UC Browser 8.2.3-Hit and miss browser for Android

http://uc-browser.en.softonic.com/android

UC Browser is a quick, sleek internet browser for your Android phone.

There are practically more browsers for Android phones than there are phone models themselves, but if you still haven’t found the one for you, check out UC Browser.

UC Browser has a number of features that help it stand out. For a start, the home page has a selection of quick-access links, helpfully divided into topic areas, like Entertainment and UC's own recommendations. It goes without saying that there's also tabbed browsing, and plenty of tab management options. It's also got a nice window browse function, and a bunch of options that display clearly when your hit the Menu key.

UC Browser also has a number of features that other browsers don’t – namely a night mode and share by SMS/<taglink type="program" country="en" id="225974">Whatsapp</taglink>. Even so, it doesn’t have any quick features for sharing by other, more common means, like Twitter or Facebook.

Unfortunately, UC Browser’s main problem is the display - it’s plain ugly. Ok, so it’s clear and easy to read, but webpages viewed with the app look like something from 1993 – at first, we thought we had a connection problem! We also had issues displaying video while using UC Browser, but couldn’t tell from the developer’s website which video formats are supposed to be supported.

UC Browser is a mixed bag – strong in areas, and weak in others. We think prospective users would be better off waiting an update or two before trying.

Download UC Browser 8.2.3 in Softonic

http://uc-browser-english.en.softonic.com/iphone

UC Browser is an alternative to Safari for your iPhone, now fully translated into English.

It may not be well known, but UC browser has some neat browsing features you might not have thought of. At the bottom of the interface there's a menu that brings up a raft on interesting options. Among the highlights, there is a night mode, that dims the browser for more comfortable browsing in the dark, a full screen mode and a quick scrolling button.

The interface is attractive, but not as cute as the more up to date Chinese version. The biggest problem with UC Browser is how it renders websites. Unfortunately, pages almost always look better in Safari, and UC Browser never reaches the speeds of Opera Mini. This is a shame, as additional features in UC Browser could make it a powerful alternative.

UC Browser is feature rich, but falls down when it comes to rendering web pages.
http://opera-mini.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Opera Mini has generally been regarded as the best mobile web browser for quite some time. Now, the app has upped its game even further with this release of version 5.

Opera Mini 5 offers a faster and more powerful browsing experience than any previous version of the app. The small and compact program has borrowed much more from its desktop-based big brother this time, so if you enjoy using Opera on your PC or Mac then you can now look forward to a similarly smooth ride on your mobile.

The user interface in Opera Mini 5 is more usable than ever. This is thanks to the addition of a Speed Dial feature, whereby you can set one-click shortcuts for up to nine of your favorite sites. Just like in the desktop version, these display thumbnail previews of the sites to make things as clear and simple as possible.

Easy browsing

Opera Mini utilizes a tab-based interface, meaning that you can load multiple pages at once simply by clicking on the tab icon at the top of the interface. You can thumb through the pages you have open using the left and right direction buttons. Other navigational aids have also been added, such as an auto-complete feature in the address bar and a built-in search bar. Unfortunately, the search bar only features two sources - Google and Wikipedia.

Viewing pages in Opera Mini 5 is a delight. As with the previous version, you can opt to view the whole web page on screen or move the cursor over a particular part of the page and tap to zoom in (there are only two levels of zoom though). Load times are as impressive as ever thanks to Opera's unique server-side rendering technology.

Fully customizable

For those who love to tinker around with stuff, Opera Mini 5 is sure to please because the program is simply rammed with options.
Opera Mini 7.0.3-The mini revolution in mobile browsing

http://opera-mini.en.softonic.com/android

Opera Mini is a mobile web browser designed to help you browse the web in comfort and at high speeds on your phone.

The latest version finally adds support for pinch-to-zoom, provided you have a multi-touch device that supports this features.

Download Opera Mini 7.0.3 in Softonic

Opera Mini Next is a preview version of the Opera Mini and Mobile browsers. Opera Mini Next allows you to preview the upcoming changes in the browser before they are added into the main apps.

The biggest change for Opera Mini Next is a new start page when you start the app and it is capable of learning your common sites and content. Once the app has enough data it will show the content automatically.

The app installs separately from the standard Mini and Mobile apps, so you can have them installed at the same time. Opera Mini Next is a test version so it has a tendency to be unstable.
UC Browser 8.4.0.150-Chinese browser for iPhone

http://uc-browser.en.softonic.com/iphone

UC Browser is an alternative web browser for your iPhone, specifically designed for the Chinese market.

As far as alternative iOS browsers go, UC Browser is pretty attractive. It's cuter than Safari, supports tabbed browsing, and has some neat menus. However, UC Browser is in Chinese, with no language choice available. There is a version in English available here.

The biggest issue with UC Browser is that pages are optimized by the developer's servers, in a similar way to <taglink type="program" country="en" id="95176">Opera Mini/Mobile</taglink>. However, many pages do not render very well when compared to Safari, and many sites seem not to recognize UC Browser as a mobile app, so you end up with a mangled version of the desktop website you were looking for. Another issue is that UC Browser suffers from censorship, meaning some sites are simply not available in it (<taglink type="program" country="en" id="115168">Gmai</taglink>l is prominent example).

If you're looking for an alternative to Safari on iOS, Opera Mini or <taglink type="program" country="en" id="301192">Skyfire</taglink> are much better and more user friendly options if you live outside China.

UC Browser is an app that is really only suitable for usage within China, as its web page rendering and limitations mean it compares badly to Safari and others.

Download UC Browser 8.4.0.150 in Softonic

TeaShark 0.9-Mobile web browser with a desktop feel

http://teashark.en.softonic.com/java

TeaShark is a free web browser for your mobile phone.

Many mobile web browsers these days render pages so small that they are often difficult to view properly. TeaShark treats web pages the way they were intended to be displayed, and doesn't reduce the dimensions. Pages are compressed, and served using the famous Webkit engine, so surfing is pretty quick.

The browser lets you navigate around pages using the directional buttons on your phone. The cursor in TeaShark is intelligent enough to jump to the next link available to click as you scroll, so you don't have to go hunting around for it. The center button on your phone is used to click links.

Getting around with TeaShark

There's a two-level zoom tool that helps you switch between reading mode and scanning mode. Unfortunately, I still found TeaShark quite cumbersome to use, and the page navigation reminded me of the bad old days of mobile web browsers.

There are some useful features included within TeaShark, such as a convenient start page that gives you quick access to bookmarks, recently-visited pages, and a Google search bar. TeaShark also supports tabs, making it easy to flick between the different pages you have open simultaneously. It also has impressive RSS support, automatically detecting available feeds on any page you visit and allowing you to subscribe using the built-in reader.

The bookmark tool in TeaShark is well implemented, and allows you to tag pages with different colors. This helps to provide a more effective way of browsing your bookmarks.

TeaShark is a fast web browser with some useful features. However, the process of navigating the large pages gets a bit tedious.

Download TeaShark 0.9 in Softonic

Opera Mini 7.0.1-Browse the web faster on your iPhone

http://opera-mini.en.softonic.com/iphone

Opera Mini provides an interesting alternative to Safari on your iPhone. Not only is it a faster browser, but it makes accessing and managing pages a lot easier.

The great thing about Opera Mini is the technology it uses to render pages. Opera has its own servers, which are used to compress page data by up to 90% before sending it to your iPhone. You may not notice much of a difference in terms of the time it takes to actually fetch a page but once the page has been served everything displays instantaneously, where Safari often takes time to load all the various page elements.

Start page and tabs

Opera Mini makes navigating the Web a bit easier than it is in Safari. For instance, there's a speed dial-style Start Page that lets you program nine of your favorite sites that can be launched with a single tap. Opera Mini boasts an easy-to-use tabbed browsing tool for switching between pages.

Tap the Tabs icon and you'll get a dock with thumbnails of each page you have open. You can simply swipe through to the one you want to show then tap to open it. Unlike Safari, Opera Mini doesn't reload an open page every time you go back to it. Introduced in version 6 of Opera Mini is the ability to open links as tabs in the background, which works very nicely.

Moving around

Navigating web pages with Opera Mini is a joyous process, especially since the latest version corrected the horrid zoom of past releases. Zooming and panning is much smoother now, although still not as slick as it is in Safari.

There are lots of other time-saving features within Opera Mini for iPhone. The app includes address auto-complete, a Find in Page tool, and it can remember passwords. It also comes with support for Opera Link, which lets you synchronize your bookmarks with your desktop version of Opera, and a Share button for quickly sending links over Facebook or Twitter.

Opera Mini boasts long-click menus that allow you to quickly perform actions such as opening a link in a new tab, editing the Start Page and selecting text, just by holding your finger down on the screen.

One thing worth noting is that Opera Mini doesn't always render pages correctly, and many users have pointed to examples of sites not functioning as fully as they do in Safari.

Overall though, Opera Mini is a good alternative to Safari, with faster loading times and lots of useful web browsing tools.

Download Opera Mini 7.0.1 in Softonic
