This is precisely what you can do with Movie Story, an excellent photo DVD authoring tool that makes the whole creative process easy enough for beginners. Movie Story is actually a new, rebranded version of Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder, which has been upgraded for better stability and video processing performance.

Movie Story features a dark yet elegant interface divided into several tabs, each one of them dedicated to a certain task: creating the slideshow, selecting a template for the DVD menu, previewing the result and recording it to any of the supported formats and platforms: DVD, VCD, SVCD, HD video file, MPG, 3GP, WMV, AVI, MPEG and more.

The good thing about Movie Story is that it includes a lot of ready-to-use material, such as menu templates and transition effects, that help to get you started. Also, the tabbed interface and minimalist menus make it really easy to use, even if this is the first time you're creating a photo slideshow.

On the downside, the program had quite a strange behavior during our tests: I didn't have access to a proper timeline (I mean, one that shows all the images inside the slideshow as thumbnails), the template selection menu didn't work properly (it only showed a blank window) and the preview window sometimes turned the image upside down for no apparent reason. It wasn't very clear if this was the expected behavior or if I was just having some kind of incompatibility issue – in which case I'd have liked Movie Story to tell me.

In all, Movie Story is a great photo DVD authoring tool, especially recommended for beginners who look for an easy, intuitive program.

The program features a main menu from where you can access its four main sections: Photos, Videos, Disc and Convert. All of them feature a dark, elegant design with eye-catching, three-dimensional animations, which can be a bit heavy on resources for older systems. Oddly enough, there's no way to go back to the main menu from the Photos or Videos tool, so you have to restart the program.

The Photos and Videos areas in CyberLink MediaShow have a similar structure; you can browse the contents of your media folders and open any of the elements (photo, video) in full screen. The menu at the top gives you access to a handful of tools that vary depending on what you're browsing: use as wallpaper, create screensavers, burn to disk (or share on Flickr in the case of photos), and burn on disc, create custom movies and share on YouTube if you're working with videos.

The Disc and Convert areas are a bit different, but easy to use as well. The Disc tool helps you create custom compositions with videos and photos and burn them to DVD or Blu-Ray, while the Convert tool focuses on converting videos from one format to another, with pre-defined conversion templates for popular devices. It doesn't convert pictures though.

CyberLink MediaShow is a complete media manager that will suit the needs of any average user.

With Photo Slide Show you can create nice photo presentations in a snap. It doesn't include all the bells and whistles you find in other similar apps: the interface design is quite basic and the program basically lets you load photos, insert transition effects and add some background music. Also, the only accepted target format is AVI, and as the program lacks a progress bar, you have no clue about the progress of your presentation.

That said, the truth is that Photo Slide Show is a handy solution when all you need is a quick way to create a photo presentation without having to sit in front of the PC for two hours. It includes a varied selection of transition effects and can synchronize images and music automatically, so that they last exactly the same.

Photo Slide Show may be simpler than other similar tools, but it's also one of the easiest ones you can use to create a presentation with your photos.
