Six-Guns 1.0.3 Android-Gun-slinging fun for Android

http://six-guns.en.softonic.com/android

Six-Guns is an epic wild west FPS for Android that's definitely better enjoyed on a tablet or high-spec phone.

If you've always fancied yourself as a gun slinger, you'd be mad not to check out Six-Guns. Amazingly, this detailed, complex first person shooter is free to download and play - you just need a powerful device and plenty of time. The game (and the extra data you may need to download to play), takes a while to download and install, but once you're done, you're free to experience all Six-Guns has to offer.

Gameplay

Six-Guns is a wild west shooting game that takes place in an open world. Wander around for a few minutes, and you'll be challenged in various ways by a buxom blond who serves as your guide. The first few missions are simple enough, and designed to get to grips with the controls and gameplay.

Progression

As you succeed in Six-Guns, you'll gain experience, gold and guns. As with many games of its type, it will take a LOT of effort to earn enough money to buy the cool stuff, but don't despair, as there's an in-game purchase system. There are 40 missions in Six-Guns, which should be enough to keep you busy for a good while.

Look and sound

Six-Guns is pretty impressive. The graphics, although not quite as amazing as games like <taglink type="program" country="en" id="324401">GT Racing: Motor Academy</taglink>, for example, are pretty good and look great on a tablet. The sounds are convincing and, in all, it's a pretty great offering for a free game.

Controls

Being honest, it took us a little time to get to grips with Six-Guns' controls, despite the tutorial-missions. It wasn't immediately obvious how to work the fight dial, and took a little while to figure out how to swap from moving to fighting and vice-versa. It comes after a while though, and eventually playing Six-Guns seems quite natural - even when you're riding a horse, which is notoriously difficult in these games!

The lowdown

We loved Six-Guns, although it's obvious that it isn't quite at the top of its game. The graphics are good, gameplay is exciting and it will keep you busy for quite a while, even without having to recourse to in-app purchases. We think that Six-Guns is the perfect app for extended play, and can really imagine sitting down to the game for a good few hours - on a flight, say. If your battery lives up to the challenge, that is!

Download Six-Guns 1.0.3 Android in Softonic

Zelda Mobile 3.03-Play Zelda on your mobile

http://zelda-mobile.en.softonic.com/java

Zelda Mobile is a phone-based version of the classic Nintendo adventure game of the same name.

If you ever owned a Super Nintendo then you've no doubt played Zelda. In fact, you probably haven't just played it, but rather eaten, slept and breathed it for months on end.

For me, Zelda was the title that really kick-started the whole role-playing game phenomenon. At first glance it was a cutesy, quirky bit of fun, but soon became an immersive, epic adventure that was difficult to escape.

Zelda Mobile recreates the magic of the original very accurately. The graphics, sound effects and little ditties are pretty much identical to the SNES version, and the storyline is the same too. This means you get a huge, sprawling labyrinth of levels complete with all manner of puzzles, which you'll find it difficult to tear yourself away from it.

It translates quite well to the small screen, and everything in Zelda Mobile is easy-to-see and well animated. There are a few options, such as volume control, key configuration, and graphic effect tweaking. On the downside, the game doesn't include instructions, and I encountered a few small bugs and blips along the way.

If you're a fan of the original, Zelda Mobile will help you rekindle your love of the adventure series.

Download Zelda Mobile 3.03 in Softonic

Destinia 1.05-Portable arcade RPG action

http://destinia.en.softonic.com/android

Destinia is an arcade-style portable RPG. Using button mash gameplay, players will experience a different world on Android devices.

Using sprite-based graphics; Destinia brings back the old school RPG experience and evolves the genre with free movement. Players will guide one of three different classes as they gain experience, complete side-quests, and experience the world of Destinia.

Depending on the character class that is chosen (Gunner, Thief, or Warrior), the experience of Destinia is slightly different because of the tactics of each class. Along with the three main classes, there are six subclasses and more multiple skill trees. Players can experience deep RPG elements while appreciating the fast-paced action of Destinia.

Even with the aged visuals that Destinia uses, the game does not have many problems running on most Android devices. The interface of Destinia is slightly confusing because it does not show all the options available on the screen or have much explanation in the beginning of the game. Destinia assumes that players are aware of the conventions of the RPG genre. The only way to find out information is to venture into the status menu and read the information.

Another small issue is that the game does not auto-save so accidental exits can erase any gained progress. It is a small issue, but can become frustrating further in the game.

Destinia is a good portable RPG experience. It works well with quick sessions, but does require a substantial investment of time to complete.

Download Destinia 1.05 in Softonic

The Final Battle 1.4-Save the princess in this nostalgic graphical adventure

http://the-final-battle.en.softonic.com/blackberry

I used to really enjoy those graphical adventure games that were very popular on the PC in the late 80s and early 90s, and Final Battle provides the chance to revisit those salad days.

The plot is a similar one - you wake up in a dungeon and must save a princess who's been captured by an evil madman. OK, so I admit not much thought really went into the overall mission, but there are plenty of riddles, twists and turns to keep you intrigued by the plot for a long while.

The game boasts all the ingredients of those old adventure romps: interactive dialogues with weird and wonderful characters, lots of weapons and objects to collect, and a smattering of hidden areas to explore. There are more than 50 different levels to explore, although as you proceed some of them become annoyingly taxing to the point where you want to give up and throw your Blackberry in the bin.

Part of the reason why The Final Battle kept me going until - well, the final battle, is its gorgeous graphics and superb soundtrack. The drawings are detailed and colourful and the audio captures the mood of the adventure perfectly. There are lots of nice cut-scenes and intro sequences, although I must point out that the quality of written English used is pretty bad at times. Maybe that's just me being picky though.

On the whole, The Final Battle is a captivating game that perfectly recreates the old graphical adventure genre to help transport you back to the 80s.

Download The Final Battle 1.4 in Softonic

Inotia3: Children of Carnia 1.2.0-A magical RPG in the land of Carnia

http://inotia3-children-of-carnia.en.softonic.com/android

Inotia3: Children of Carnia is a huge and detailed adventure game for your Android phone.

The game is set in the magical land of Carnia. Lucio and Ameli are from the village of Carnia. They are simple people, totally unaware of the huge adventure that lies ahead of them. Inotia3: Children of Carnia is a stardard RPG, with the characters moving around their world, attempting to defeat the lord of darkness. On the way they will meet a host of interesting characters and terrifying enemies, fighting, thinking and trading their way to success.

For a mobile game, elements of Inotia3: Children of Carnia are actually pretty advanced. The story isn't perfect, but it is reasonably solid and even includes a few sub-plots that add interest. You can play as one of 6 character classes, with the powers and skills that correspond to each. When you start the game for the first time, you'll get the backstory to Inotia3: Children of Carnia, giving you a feel for the game - as well as a taste of what's to come.

Unfortunately, the effort put into the scale and story to Inotia3: Children of Carnia doesn't seem to have been replicated in either the graphics or the on-screen controls. We thought the game looked old-fashioned, with none of the clarity or detail that we know is possible in Android games - take<taglink type="program" country="en" id="319469"> Cordy</taglink> as a great example. Likewise, the Inotia3: Children of Carnia controls aren't very user-friendly - there are loads of them crowding the screen, so it's not a great game if you suffer from fat finger syndrome. It's also unclear as to which button does what, and there's no in-game guide.

RPG players tend to be pretty forgiving when it comes to story vs. graphics, and if you can forgive a certain lack of oomph, then you're sure to appreciate Inotia3: Children of Carnia. That said, for a game with paid options, it just seems a little lacklustre. Either way, Inotia3: Children of Carnia is free, so download it and check it out for yourself.

Inotia3: Children of Carnia is a charming RPG for your Android phone.

Download Inotia3: Children of Carnia 1.2.0 in Softonic

Legend of Seel (S60 3rd)-Track down the Ekys dukes in this epic adventure

http://legend-of-seel.en.softonic.com/java

Oh no, what does King Mederos want now? He reckons the Ekys dukes, masters and keepers of the Havaal cities are up to no good and wants me to track them down? Well, that's just great. I've only just come back from defeating Dragon Methor and now he wants me to go off and do his donkey work for him again. Oh well, I guess I've got nothing better to do.

Actually, being a big fan of the adventure game genre, I was happy to immerse myself in Legend of Seel, and ultimately was not disappointed, thanks to some truly gripping gameplay. It's basically a case of wandering around the landscape discovering items and conversing with characters you meet in order to solve the missions.

Graphically, it's colourful with some well-drawn backgrounds and the cut scenes look great. It makes great use of the touchscreen so you can easily scribble your way through the levels in a natural way.

However, its the gameplay of Legend of Seel that wins all the points for this one. The adventure itself is a challenging one, with plenty of puzzles to solve and a combat system that makes fighting enemies a real pleasure. Its also packed with loads of fun mini games, helping to ensure that the game never gets boring. Indeed, with over 10 hours of gameplay, this is one that will brighten up your bus journies for quite some time.

If there was one criticism I could level at Legend of Seel it's that the story lacks originality and you sometimes feel like you've played this game a hundred times before in other guises. The character dialogues are slightly wooden and the music quickly becomes annoying.

Nevertheless, if you like a challenge and want to immerse yourself in an epic adventure on your phone, Legend of Seel is a whole lot of fun.

Download Legend of Seel (S60 3rd) in Softonic

Magic Wars 2.0-Become the next Harry Potter

http://magic-wars.en.softonic.com/iphone

If you're a fan of the Harry Potter series of movies/books then you're going to love Magic Wars.

This inventive game gives you the chance to become an all-conquering wizard or witch. In order to do this you'll need to pick the right wand, learn spells and charms, train yourself in wizard skills, chant incantations, and take on other sorcerers in duels.

You're probably thinking Magic Wars sounds like some kind of graphical adventure game in the same vein as World of Warcraft. In reality it's far more original than that though. Magic Wars makes use of touchscreen and voice recognition technologies to deliver an innovative spell-casting feature. Once you've learned a spell you cast it by moving your thumb in a certain pattern and chanting the incantation into the phone. The accuracy of your movement and voice input determines how powerful the spell is.

What's great about Magic Wars is the social aspect of the game. Once you've completed your training you can go online and duel against other players using the skills you've built up. If you beat them you earn gold that can be traded for extra training sessions. You can choose to play against anyone online, a specific friend, or find people in your area who are playing it. You can also set up 'Circles', and get people to join you, and sending messages to each other.

The one major problem with Magic Wars is that it's pretty buggy at the moment and very prone to crashing. Apparently it's improved a lot from the previous version, but it still kicked me out a few times when I tested it.

Magic Wars is a fun and inventive game, which helps you make new friends too. That's if you don't mind looking an idiot when you're sat on the bus waving your arms about and shouting spells.

Download Magic Wars 2.0 in Softonic

Angel Sword 2.1-Find the sword to save the village

http://angel-sword.en.softonic.com/blackberry

You all know the story: two wizard pals live in peace together for years, then all of a sudden one gets on a bit of a power-trip and decides to up sticks and unleash a load of demons all over the village. This leaves the good wizard only one option - you.

Of course, it's not really you, but rather a winged angel with your name. And no, you don't have to worry about having to ditch your day job and go off slaying the beasts of hell. That's because Angel Sword is just a RPG adventure game for your mobile phone. It's still a tough challenge though, as you need to negotiate lots of levels of bad guys, puzzles and obstacles in your effort to find the mysterious Angel Sword that will put paid to the bad wizard once and for all.

Along the way you get asked by other villagers and passers-by to do stuff for them too, like finding remedies for fever, or picking flowers for them. These mini missions make Angel Sword feel like of a kind-of Grand Theft Auto for wimps and babies.

Graphically, Angel Sword is a long, long way from GTA though, and is more like Zelda in this respect. The colors are nice and bright but the sprites are very blocky and the animation is quite primitive. While there are plenty of differently-themed environments to explore, much of the scenary and buildings within these are static so, for instance, every house that you go into in the village will have all of its furniture in exactly the same place as the others.

I guess I've been kinda spoiled by graphically rich PC and console RPGs of late, so I'm willing to look past Angel Sword's visuals. And I'm pretty pleased with what I see overall. Sure, the dialog is very wooden and the whole plot is massively clichéd, but as a way of passing time on the bus every morning, this game will have you enthralled for weeks such is its sheer scale and the number of tasks and missions that you need to complete in it.

A pretty decent attempt at a mobile RPG.

Download Angel Sword 2.1 in Softonic

Kingdoms at War 1.17-Battle neighboring kingdoms in a medieval fantasy setting

http://kingdoms-at-war.en.softonic.com/iphone

Kingdoms at War is a multi-player role play game app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch that allows you to create a medieval fantasy kingdom and protect it from enemies.

The interface on Kingdoms at War is relatively simple. Even if you've never played a role play game (RPG) before, helpful prompts guide you through the process. First you set up a user name, which is considered your online handle that other players know you as throughout the game. Then, choose between one of three Kingdoms at War kingdom banner options. Your kingdom can focus on war, defense, or stability.

Once you've set up Kingdoms at War's basics you can start playing. Again, you will receive prompts to explore land near your kingdom. Once successfully explored, you can build different types of structures on it at a cost. If you have enough gold coins in your inventory, go ahead and build. If not, consider trying to get yourself hired by another user to complete a task or attacking another nearby kingdom so you can obtain loot.

Kingdoms at War offers a chat within the app itself, a nice feature that allows you to connect with people who need allies or hired help. Beware though. Allies can opt to spy on you for other allies, ultimately to your detriment.

One of the biggest problems with Kingdoms at War is simply that it often costs so much money to build new structures that they're impossible to ever buy. Because there is no bank feature on Kingdoms at War to secure your in-game earnings, this opens you up to potential attack and ultimate monetary loss as a result.

For a fun game that's RPG newcomer friendly though, Kingdoms at War is a good option.

Download Kingdoms at War 1.17 in Softonic

Final Fantasy 1.0.1-Play the original adventure game on your iPhone

http://final-fantasy.en.softonic.com/iphone

Final Fantasy is the granddaddy of all adventure role playing games. Now the first part in the long running series is available for iPhone users to enjoy.

Final Fantasy sees you take control of a group of four young adventurers, known as the Light Warriors. Their job is to work together to save their world by completing a series of quests. The game is divided into four modes: the overworld map, town/area maps, a battle screen and a menu screen. The gist of Final Fantasy is to go around exploring, solving puzzles, acquiring weapons, and battling enemies in order to progress through the world.

The graphics and gameplay in the iPhone version of Final Fantasy are pretty faithful to the original NES version, which will please die hard fans. Newcomers may find the visuals to be a bit basic, but remember that this is part of the game's charm, and as you start exploring you'll soon forget about the Nineties look of the game. There are a couple of glitches in the presentation that spoil the experience a little, though. Firstly, the font rendering is a little wonky, making reading text a bit of a burden on your eyes. Also, the beeping noise that plays when you select an item is a bit too loud, drowning out the excellent soundtrack.

What will annoy people most about this version of Final Fantasy is the control system. For some reason the developer has chosen to slap a huge d-pad on the left of the screen. This is particularly fiddly to use if you're wearing headphones, because the cable gets in the way. I think it would've been far better to put the d-pad on the right, or do away with it completely and use a point-and-move approach.

Perhaps I'm nit-picking a bit too much though, because ultimately, Final Fantasy is still a joyous game that will keep your hand gripped to your iPhone for hours.

Download Final Fantasy 1.0.1 in Softonic

Zeus Quest 1.4-Point-and-click fun in ancient Greece

http://zeus-quest.en.softonic.com/blackberry

If you're a fan of point-and-click adventure classics such as Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island, then fire up Zeus Quest on your Blackberry and get ready for some fun.

Zeus Quest is set in ancient Greece, where you play Zeus, the boss of Olympus. You mission is somewhat of a mystery but it's something to do with a spacecraft crashing into the sea around 1000 BC. In fact, you start completely unaware of anything other than the fact you're on a beach with two sunbathers and a goat.

Even the game controls aren't explained to you, but you soon figure out that Zeus Quest plays in much the same way as those Lucas Arts classics. You just click on the eye icon next to an object to view it, or the hand option to talk to or perform an action on an object. There's a small, yet well-labeled menu at the foot of the screen which houses an inventory of objects that you can pick up and use to solve puzzles or unlock mysteries.

Zeus Quest is a very well presented game, with colorful backgrounds, detailed cartoon characters, and clearly-displayed text. The music is pretty good too.

However, it's the gameplay where Zeus Quest really comes into its own. Some of the puzzles are devilishly difficult, the dialogs are detailed and often hilarious, and you get to explore a huge game world spread across the Aegean islands. It's just a shame this demo version is so limited.

Zeus Quest is one of the most fun mobile adventure games we've seen in a while, and has all the makings of a Greek legend.

Download Zeus Quest 1.4 in Softonic

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls 2.05-Classic dungeon crawling action and difficulty

http://wizardry-labyrinth-of-lost-souls.en.softonic.com/iphone

Most RPG games on iOS are centered on an RPG-lite gameplay style with quick sessions. Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is different because it transforms the classic Wizardry series and presents it on iOS.

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is a freemium RPG game that ports the game onto the iOS platform. While the initial download is free, players will be able to reach level five and experience the first floor of the first quest, 'Dungeon of Trials'. Essentially, the free download is a demo for the rest of the game which can be unlocking with an in-app purchase.

The visuals of Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls uses the old static image style. Players will be reading a lot of text as they experience the game with any animation being applied to combat. The tone of Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is old and focuses on the exploration and difficult gameplay of games during the early era of RPG games. The use of sprites and high quality art defines the history of Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls.

Players move in first-person by touching the screen to move, but combat is experienced through using a turn-based system. Some players may have never experienced games without flashy animations, but Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is a classic RPG experience.

With the classic experience comes the classic RPG difficulty. Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is not easy. With up to six party members, fights can be somewhat easier; but Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls does not hold the player's hand and spends more time attempting to beat them down. Fans of old school RPGs will really enjoy the gameplay, but players who have only experienced newer RPG games might be turned off by the presentation of Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls.

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is not for everyone, but should be experienced. The old style gameplay makes progression feel much more deserved and the lack of hand-holding of the player creates a deeper experience.

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is a reminder of where RPGs came from and worth the effort.

Download Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls 2.05 in Softonic

Angel Sword 2.0-Find the sword to save the village

http://angel-sword.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Download Angel Sword 2.0 in Softonic
