DeformerPro is probably one of the easiest ways to have some fun with your photos and your PC on one of those boring Sunday afternoons.

First of all, bear in mind that this program is mainly intended for people who have little or no knowledge of photo editing at all. Power users may find it then a bit too simple but in any case it works really well for a quick morphing effect.

Simply run it (no installation required) and load a photo. Then start deforming the image with the mouse's right button and see how it's coming out in real time. At the beginning it'll all look weird but soon you'll get the knack of it. The overlaid grid also helps to achieve better results. Just one thing: you really need to be careful because DeformerPro only supports a one-level undo.

Once you like the final image (you can get a better look by temporarily disabling the grid) you'll be able to save it as JPG, BMP or PNG, ready to be published online or shared by email. Just be careful not to hurt other people's feelings!

Though probably too simple for expert image editors, DeformerPro is a great tool to apply warping effects to your photos in no time.

Remember that amazing morphing effect that made our jaws drop in Michael Jackson's Black or White videoclip? That was back in 1991 and graphic technologies have evolved a lot since then, but morphing animations still remain as an eye-catching effect you can now easily apply to your pictures with Abrosoft Fantamorph.

The program offers three trial versions (Standard, Professional and Deluxe), differing from each other in the amount of available tools and functions. We recommend trying the Deluxe one, although you can always select another in the Help – Choose Trial Edition menu if you change your mind.

Fantamorph stands out for its ease of use. Once you launch the program and pass the morphing capacity diagnosis test, a wizard leads you through the process of creating a morphing or warping effect. The first one creates a transition animation between two pictures, whilst the second one generates an animation based on a single picture. Both effects are worked out in a very similar way, so you'll be mastering them in almost no time.

Morphing is based on dots that you place on the picture to point out the exact areas the program will use to create the animation effect. So for example, to create a morphing effect between two close-ups, you add dots around the face, eyes, nose and so on, creating a dotted outline of the source image and arranging these same dots to coincide with the face, eyes, nose and everything else in the target image. So, the more dots you have, the more realistic your effect will look. Fantamorph does a good job at managing these dots: you can add dots simultaneously to both photos, move them around easily, lay a grid over the image for improved accuracy or even zoom in the picture. However, the zoom tool makes it a pain to move around the image as the working area is pretty small and cannot be resized. The same objection can be pointed out about the interface's buttons, which are too small to be comfortable. Luckily enough, you can count on tooltips to reveal their function.

For those of you who feel too lazy to start adding dots, Fantamorph includes an amazing tool called Face Locator which, as its name clearly states, is able to find the face area in any picture you want to use. This comes in very handy when you want to create a face morphing effect as it gets most of the work done for you.

In case the morphing and warping effects are not enough, the program features a wide range of effects you apply to your pictures, such as background images, masks, music or transition effects. You can select them through the wizard or from the program's interface, and see how they look like in the preview window. When your project is finished, you can export it as an AVI video, an image sequence, a webpage or even a screensaver, amongst others.

In short, if you want to create an appealing morphing effect in a surprisingly easy way, Fantamorph is definitely the application you're looking for.

Some people get kicks out of taking pictures of their friends, distorting them and sending them back to every one they know just for a good laugh. If that's what you're into, you can play around with any photo manipulation tool or you can find one which specifically distorts images.

Cartoon Maker is fairly basic but has a few tools to play around with your photos. While you won't ever be able to get into deep editing, you'll be able to apply different distortion and twist effects of which you can modulate the intensity. If you want to take the outline of a picture you can use the sketch tool. We suggest setting it at near maximum though if you want to capture the majority of the lines in the photo.

Despite the fact that you can only save to three image formats (jpg, bmp, wmf), Cartoon Maker is a good application if you're looking to quickly create distorted images of your friends.

Morpheus Photo Morpher lets anybody associate and morph two pictures. The application starts up with a very useful wizard that will guide beginners. The program also displays side notes in a separate window to know what actions to do, in what order and what they actually do. You start off by selecting the two pictures that you wish to morph. Afterwards you need to place dots on your pictures to let the program know the areas of the photos affected by the morphing effect. It's very easy to place the dots but a little less intuitive to remove them. The program has a preview window from which you can monitor your changes.

Morpheus Photo Morpher lets you save your creation in all sorts of popular formats like JPEG, TIF, QT or Flash. Although you can send your finished photo in email via Morpheus, we were disappointed that the application did not feature more advanced sharing capabilities.

Distortit allows you to easily apply a morphing effect to your photos, achieving some hilarious distorting effects.

Face Control is a free plug-in for Adobe Photoshop that allows to change the facial expression of the people appearing in your digital photos. At least that's what the author's description says, although I must say that the reality is quite different.

Face Control does change the expression, that's true. But the lack of advanced options (there's only one single slider) makes the result quite disappointing. I'd rather define this plug-in as a pseudo-morphing tool to have fun with your friend's pictures, than as an app to change facial expressions.

On the upside, Facial Control is so simple even a child could use it: simply move the slider to one side or the other and see the new expression in real time. If you like the result, hit the "Ok" button and you're done.
