VSO Image Resizer 2.0.1.11b - Modify the size of your photos with ease

If you've ever needed to resize an image quickly, then you need a tool that makes it as easy and as straight forward as possible.

VSO Image resizer organizes your photos by shrinking their resolution or reducing them on your hard drive. It's a one stop easy to use solution for all those that need to resize, compress, convert, create copies, import or organize photos. The main benefit of this is that the photos take up less storage space and are much easier to e-mail. You can also use them in third party applications much easier too such as design applications and other image editors. In addition, it's a good idea for webmasters to use this because reducing the resolution alone can mean that your webpages load much more quickly. You can change their format and also edit large numbers of image files at once as it supports batch editing. While the program doesn't have a particularly great interface, it is integrated very well into Windows shell so it's easy to access simply by right clicking.

If you're looking for a super quick and easy images resizing solution, then VSO will more than cater for your needs.

FastStone Photo Resizer Portable 2.6 - Resize batches of photos on the move

FastStone Photo Resizer is designed to make resizing of large numbers of photos on the move as easy as possible.

If you're a design professional or produce presentations on a regular basis, you'll find this program useful especially if you travel around a lot. You can perform several basic functions in addition to resizing such as rotating, cutting and pasting, colour alterations and of course adjust the brightness and contrast of your images. In addition, once resized, you can add text and watermarks to images although the text styles and formats are limited. Of course, this is nothing special for an image resizer but the big bonus is that it can be run directly from a USB stick in which case it doesn't need installing - perfect if you are in a hurry.

The interface is very easy to use and supports the dragging and dropping of images into the program which speeds up conversions of huge batches significantly compared to browsing to each file. It supports a decent amount of formats including the relatively rare JPEG2000 format which is unusual for any type of imaging utility. The batch renaming and resizing utility also saves you work and time (and the risk of duplicated images) by automatically renumbering adjusted images in sequential order.

This is an excellent portable image resizer and if you're looking for something in this area which is free, fast and simple, you need look no further.

John's Image Converter 2.0 - A tool to convert, resize and create collages with photos

Converting and resizing are surely the most common tasks you need to do with photos, so it's important to have a reliable app for the job.

John's Image Converter is a good choice, as it enables you to convert and resize single pictures or a whole directory of images. You can resize them either in pixels or percentage, and always making sure the original files are nor overwritten. But that's not all: with this program you can also create original photo collages in no time.

John's Image Converter features a tabbed interface where each tab is dedicated to the program's different functions: converting and resizing for one picture, for complete folders and collages. The first two ones are pretty straightforward. As for the latter, I must say I was a bit disappointed. The collage feature does include some interesting options, but the result wasn't as good as I expected: you can't preview the final result, there's no possibility to rearrange pictures once it's done and if your thumbnails are too big, they won't fit in it.

With John's Image Converter you can quickly resize and convert your photos, with the possibility to create a simple collage with them.

Fotosizer 1.170.269 - An easier way to resize your photos

Fotosizer is a freeware batch image resizer tool. It resizes your photos in just 3 easy steps - 1. Photo selection, 2. select resize settings, then 3. Start the resize!

Increasingly, sharing photos on the internet is becoming more and more popular. Photos, represented as JPEG files from digital cameras, taken at high resolutions are far too large to send over the Internet, with some photos ending up at 5 mega bytes. Uploading one photo to a photo sharing website is fine, but 10, 20, or even more, this can take forever, especially on a dial-up connection.

With Fotosizer, you can shrink JPEG image files, along with other supported formats, and dramatically reduce internet transfer times, enabling you to quickly and easily prepare your image collections to be published on the web

Imgares 1.43 - Retouch and resize your photos in a click

High resolution photos from modern digital cameras are often too large to send by e-mail, or at least, take a long time to upload.

Sometimes, if you're in a hurry, you just want to get your photos sent off without worrying about whether it's going to attach or not. Imgares is a batch photo editor that allows you to reduce both size and e-mail or upload transfer times. All you have to is drag and drop your photos into the application window (as many as you want), change the size and click "Start" - there's not much too it beyond that. This makes it very limited on the one hand but also extremely quick on the other. After resizing however, the program does allow you to rotate photos, add text to them and even make a slideshow in movie format. The useful bit is that this can all be performed in "batch" processing mode so you can process, resize and label as many images as you want at once. If you do choose the slideshow function, there are several transitions you can apply such as Zoom In and Zoom Out, light effects and some rotation options.

This is one of the most basic photo editing applications you may ever use but for those who need large numbers of photos resized instantly, look no further.

With the number of blogs and personal webpages it's no longer only us, software reviewers, who need to resize many pictures on a daily basis. You probably need to resize a lot too, to send them by email, publish them online and many other possible usages.

This is where Squash comes in handy, enabling you to resize photos in batch mode, that is, many of them at the same time. The program, which doesn't even require installation, features a simple design and is very easy to use: simply open the photos you want to resize on its interface, select the new size, add a suffix if you want and you're done.

Of course, this simplicity of usage has also certain somewhat negative consequences: experienced users may miss having a few more options – at least to select the picture's new size, which only works in percentages. Also, the interface doesn't support dragging and dropping of images, something I personally found a bit of a shame.

If you're looking for a simple, quick way to resize photos, this may be the tool you need, though sometimes it seems it's just too simple even if it's only intended to resize pics.

High Quality Photo Resizer 4.2 - Batch resize your photos

Resizing photos for e-mail or uploading to servers is often far more difficult than it should be. High Quality Photo Resizer does the job with minimum fuss with a focus on high quality images. It also allows you to add up to 37 effects (Sharpen, Mosaic, Tweak RGB, Colorize, Spray, Emboss, Blur, Gray Scale, Negative, Soften, Swirl, Tile, Wind, Contrast, Noise, Anti Alias, Fish Eye, Flip Horizontal, Flip Vertical, High Pass, Neontrace, etc.) to your photos.

In the latest version you can now drag-and-drop images or add an entire folder meaning that it effectively supports batch conversion which is great for those with lots of images to deal with. You can scale images wither by simply selecting a certain percentage or pixel reduction or by manually resizing them with your mouse. Note that to install this program on Windows Vista, you need to logon with the "Administrator Account" before you install it. If you log on to the Windows Vista computer with a standard user account, the installation process will fail according to the developers.

Quick, simple and designed specifically for high res images, this is a tool that even photo professionals will appreciate.

Not so with Image Minimizer which allows you to modify the quality, size and format of multiple images at the same time. This all-in-one solution saves time and effort that you usually have to waste on image management.

The program supports most popular graphic formats and has support for drag-and-droppingimages.
Shrink Pic 1.4.1 - Automatically reduce size of photos for email, IM, blogging etc.

Today's high resolution digital cameras produce multi Megabyte photos. These are great for printing but cause a heavy burden when sending over the Internet. Shrink Pic allows you to send dozens of photos as email attachments - quickly and with no effort at all!

All you need to do is install Shrink Pic. It automatically detects when you're sending large photo files and compresses them in the background. There's no setup, no operating instructions, nothing, nada. Just send your photos normally and Shrink Pic takes care of shrinking them. Shrink Pic runs in the background. It has a taskbar icon which tells you it's waiting for photos to be sent.

Then, when it detects that you're sending a large photo, it automatically creates a temporary copy, resizes it and sends it instead. It gives you a notice message, so you'll know the photo you sent was resized. Of course, the original photo doesn't change, only the temporary copy.

You can control how Shrink Pic resizes your photos. Select between three automatic resize levels or enter your own custom sizes. Shrink Pic also recognizes rotated photos (portrait layout) and resizes them intelligently, so you don't need to worry about that too.

GoodLook 5.2.1 - Convert your image files into auto-executable archives

GoodLook creates an auto-executable SGA file from an image, so that anyone can independently visualize it whether or not they have the appropriate viewing program installed. Once they execute the file created with GoodLook, the user will be able to choose between seeing the image in it's original size or in an adapted format for the screen. In this latter case, they will have access to a magnifying glass that amplifies the selected part.

SGA is a type of self extracting archive that stores digital photo or other kind of graphics. You can both extract graphics from the archive and view the photos without extraction via an embedded viewer. This viewer fits the photos to the screensize and shows meta information relating to the pictures.

If you need to share and analyse photos in great detail, then GoodLuck is an excellent solution although be warned that creating the archives can sometimes be slow depending on how many images you have and what resolution they are in.

EasyPic 0.8 - Resize photos and optionally add a watermark

EasyPic is clearly not intended for massive picture resizing, as it works with only one file at a time. However, it's a perfect tool for occasional resizing, like creating an avatar for your IM client or publishing a downsized picture to your blog.

Unlike similar tools, EasyPic doesn't use size presets; it simply enables you to enter the new size values, maintaining aspect ratio automatically. It also allows you to add a watermark to the resized picture, although only in seven different positions with no customizing possibilities.

Once resized, you can save the picture in JPG, BMP or GIF and also save settings for future use, which makes it a bit easier for working with more than one file.

JPEGCrops 0.7.4 Beta - Cropping of JPEG images without loss of quality

The task of cropping, editing and optimizing your digital pictures is always tiring, especially when you have dozens of them. Luckily enough there are always programs willing to give you hand, like JPEGCrops.

This easy tool enables you to open a handful of pictures and crop all of them simultaneously. Of course, this doesn't mean that they'll be all cropped the same way: you can configure different cropping areas and other options for each of them separately, and them run the task for all of them.

The program's options include the possibility to choose between many different aspect ratios. Also, don't worry about your original ones: they won't be overwritten, as the program allows you to choose a different target folder and also rename new files automatically.

The only thing we missed was the ability to take a look at cropped images from the program itself. There's no such "preview" option, so you'll have to use your own image viewer.

BD Sizer keeps EXIF information when resizing photos and also enables you to view and edit XMP data.

Mihov Image Resizer 1.1 - Batch resize and convert images easily

Mihov Image Resizer is a handy tool for batch resizing images in BMP, GIF and JPG picture formats. You can make pictures or any kind of images smaller or bigger - whichever you need at the time.

The second feature of the program is converting pictures between different graphic formats. You can change from bitmap to JPEG or GIF, from JPEG to GIF or from GIF to JPEG. Again, this can be made in batch mode. That means that you will only have to select the images and the program will do the rest for all selected images.

The third major feature is rotating. If you have a digital camera and you took some upright shots you will have to turn them arround. What better way than with Mihov Image Resizer? You can rotate the photos to the left or to the right or turn upside down. This feature comes handy also when you are scanning and are too lazy to turn the pictures.

Resize 2.7 - Resize images easily in batch mode

Resize allows you to resize images. Reduction is done by pixel averaging, which gives much better quality than sub-sampling. The program allows you to resize a batch of images and also convert to JPEG. This is useful for creating thumbnails for web pages or resizing the frames for animated gifs.

The resizing algorithm produces high quality images because it uses all available information from the source image. Most other image resizing software only use a small amount of information from the source image.
