However, it isn't very effective at all. My Mac's AirPort card found twice as many networks in my area than AirPort Radar Widget did indicating that is not 100% reliable.

When a network is too weak to connect to, it is greyed-out - strong signals are highlighted in bold.

As part of your dashboard, the WeatherBug Local Weather widget requires setting up with your location on installation. Enter your town or city, and you'll be asked a couple of questions to get the location as near as possible to where you want.

The WeatherBug Local Weather home screen shows you current conditions, including the temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius and the wind speed and direction. You can also call up a seven-day forecast, which shows the highs, lows and conditions. If there happens to be an available live cam in your chosen place, you can see up to date pictures of current conditions, which is great for traveling.

In some places video is also available, as a traditional TV weather forecast. There's also an infared satellite map, although you can't zoom in and around it, which is disappointing. American cities are much better served for video and cam content than the rest of the world, but wherever you are the WeatherBug current conditions and forecast are good quality and as reliable as weather forecasts get!

WeatherBug is a useful widget, giving you quick and easy access to weather forecasts so you'll always prepared when you step outside.

Scenario Poker allows you to play in a three-tier, freeze-out tournament against up to 27 simulated opponents. If you run out of chips, you're out but if you win everyone's chips, you keep advancing to the next table until you’re the champion. The good thing about this is that there's no real money involved or even the temptation to get real money involved as it's all simulated.

Scenario Poker is a customizable widget allowing you to change the style and color of the cards to your taste. You can't, however, choose who you want to complete against and you have to play a minimum of nine players at a time which can be quite overwhelming, especially for beginners. All of the players are given human faces and names, although all are actually simulated by the computer. Dealing is simply a case of clicking 'Deal' then you click the respective buttons whether you want to call or raise.

There are no sound effects with the game, which could have added a little more atmosphere and both the cards and funds each player has remaining are a little small to see properly. However, the game is very slick with dealing and raising happening very quickly. In fact, unless you know the rules of Texas Hold 'Em well, you may find yourself floundering very quickly.

Scenario Poker is an excellent poker widget that's high on poker action and realism but won't have you crying all the way to the bank if you lose.

Having it as widget means it is immediately available. You will have to be running iTunes to make it work though. You can either search for the lyrics of a song at the back of the widget, by typing the name of the song or of the artist, or just start any song in iTunes. Sing That iTune! can be a little erratic, and you might find it freezes up or won't display lyrics. However this isn't as frequent as you'd think.

I like how Sing That iTune! has links to YouTube and Google so you can look for videos and extra information on a song or artist. You'll find you can also search for album artwork, which is nice to have since you need an Apple account to do this in iTunes.

Sing That iTune! also lets you save the lyrics of a success with the music file. If you want them separate you can select a folder to place them into.

Sing That iTune! is a clean little widget that will search for and display lyrics to your iTunes tracks.

The iStocks widget lets you view all your stocks straight from your Dashboard.

The bottom section shows the progression of the value in a graph, which can be set from over one day up to over two years. You can sort, reorder and rename symbols and look them up for more information and data.

There are also five different color themes to choose from. If the widget is getting too crowded you can show different instances of it.

This widget lets you convert simultaneously any amount in four different currencies. Values are regularly updated, that is if you're connected to the internet and Dashboard is working. The widget includes not only the world's most used currencies but also lesser known ones and even legacy currencies such as the French Franc or the Deutsch mark.

To use it, simply select the currencies of your choice from the drop down menus, type in a value and let the widget do its job. If you're converting from one currency to another you probably won't need the four entries made available though. Currency Converter goes up to a precision of five decimals and can also calculate taxes, if you include them. On a side note, Currency Converter also includes a number of different themes to choose from.

Currency Converter is a useful widget to precisely convert to any currency in the world. Fills in a gap oddly left out by Apple. A must have for your Dashboard.

The problem is that by default iTunes doesn't use Amazon at all, so you need something like Amazon Album Art Widget to help it along. Amazon Album Art Widget searches for album art from Amazon's comprehensive catalog, then imports it into iTunes with the click of a button. It would obviously be nicer if it plugged directly into iTunes but importing the covers only adds an extra step to the process.

The hit rate is pretty good unless you're searching for something particularly obscure. However, Amazon Album Art Widget can be a bit fussy when it comes to importing the covers. You have to make sure that you have only a track selected of the artist you're searching for and not the album or playlist for that artist as it simply won't work. Clicking on the album cover in the widget takes you directly to the Amazon page it was taken from if you need more info on the artist or cover.

Removing covers that you've imported accidentally is the biggest pain. You probably won't be able to work out how to do it yourself so the developers explain that you have to select the track in iTunes, then command-click and choose "Get Info" in iTunes and go to the Artwork tab and manually delete it.

Amazon Album Art Widget is a decent option for all those who want their iTunes albums cataloged with album covers but it does have more than a few quirks and frustrations.

The widget also gives you a choice of 4 background colors to choose from.
