Planbook allows you to organize your study schedule plans in an interface similar to Outlook and aims to save you time and effort in organising your study schedule. Planbook allows you to plan anything from up to a day full of several classes to a 2 week plan which takes into account holidays and weekend classes. If a class is canceled or changes schedule, you can switch them round pretty easily.

Planbook allows up to 20 different subjects to be accounted for and it can link your entries to web pages, teacher info, class info and anything else that may help you remember more details about a class. If you're looking for something specific related to your course, you can also search your schedule by keyword as well as export your curriculum to HTML. Alternatively, you can upload your schedule to an FTP server for access anywhere.

Wikipedia must surely be on of the greatest innovations on the internet since the advent of Google and YouTube in my opinion.

The secret of it's success was to harness the power of user general knowledge via an extremely easy to use and read interface - a wiki. MediaWiki is a small package which contains everything you need to create your own wiki on any subject you choose. MediaWiki is already being used by several other projects of the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation including the MediaWiki developer site.

MediaWiki is basically a free server-based software which is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). If you're intent on creating a big or popular wiki don't worry - it's designed to be run on a large server farm for a website that gets millions of hits per day. MediaWiki uses PHP to process and display data stored in its MySQL database. However, it requires no SQL database knowledge on your part and pages use MediaWiki's wikitext format, so that users without knowledge of XHTML or CSS can edit them easily.

My memory has always been like a sieve and it seems to be getting worse so I was more than intrigued to try out Teach2000.

Teach2000 is like a personal tutor that helps you memorize a foreign language, topography or even important historical facts and dates. It's aimed at students mainly who want to get ahead in their exams or classwork. The program has a quick start wizard that takes you through everything from scratch. It sets you a number of texts based on what you want to remember such as symbols, text or statistics. The program tests your memory by asking you to repeat whatever you've read several times until the number or words are drilled into your head. One good thing is that the program is not limited by language - it can handle phrases and texts in twelve different languages. It's also a very good way to improve your grammar (at least in English anyway) as it tests your ability to remember grammatical rules with a multiple choice test. The program is completely free and very fast at administration tests and changing from one to another. In case you want to use the tests outside of your PC, you can also print out tests and flashcards which could be useful in a classroom environment too.

A fast and innovative way to try and improve your memory although I bet I still forget my keys at least once this week even after using this.

iTest is the kind of program teachers love and students hate: a complete tool to create exams and tests of all kinds.

The program is divided into two main applications: a server, which is the one the teacher uses to create the test, and the client, launched by the students who are taking it. Questions can be multiple-choice and have attached images, but unfortunately they must be in SVG format (and not other more popular formats such as JPG or BMP). You can also assign different difficulty degrees to questions and even set the time limit to answer each of them.

Once the server is up and running, the clients (students) can connect to it and begin the test. The teacher will then be able to track their progress and correct their answers on the fly, so that they can receive their grades upon finishing the test.

Generally speaking the whole system works fine but it's not that easy to use. We strongly recommend to read documentation thoroughly if you want to take full advantage of the program's functions. Also, I missed having some kind of sample database or questions to get you started, instead of having to create everything from scratch right from the beginning.

Wouldn't it be useful to have a visual map of your thoughts, stating clearly what can support your view or what could instead be raised against it. Argumentative will let you built clear charts with thesis and counter thesis so that you can prepare your speech or develop ideas in a more effective way.

The application makes use of colours to clarify the diagram. Reasons are written in a green panel, objections in red one while the elements in support of both are displayed in a blue box. At any time you can add reasons, helpers or objections to make your graph as comprehensive as possible. Argumentative's concept is interesting and useful, but the way to design your thought diagram is not that usable. I wouldn't say it is difficult, but surely nowadays we have reached some standard for icons in order to move, add or remove things. I don't find it particularly quick, as one has to go into the edit menu, and then select the adding option just to insert a new panel. It's not really difficult but it would have made things much easier if there were an icon for these functions on the main bar.

Despite a raw design which slows the creation process, this free program can help you organize your ideas, thoughts and presentations thanks to its clear way of displaying arguments and objections.
