OneSwarm 0.5-BitTorrent client with enhanced privacy and security

http://oneswarm.en.softonic.com

If you worry about your privacy and security being compromised when you download via BitTorrent, OneSwarm is your program.

OneSwarm is a safe BitTorrent client that uses SSL encryption to make sure your file transfers are safe from prying eyes. At the same time, it lets you create a friend list to which you can add all your trusted mates and exchange files with them in a secure environment.

OneSwarm seems a bit confusing at first sight, because it's got a double interface: you can choose between a web-based interface that opens up in your browser, or a standard BitTorrent interface that's actually based on Azureus. Either way, you get the usual sections in this sort of programs: current transfers, completed files and, in the case of OneSwarm, another category covering your transfers to friends.

In general terms OneSwarm works fine, though you may have the odd issue relating network configuration and firewalls. The program includes a handy preview function to check that what you're downloading is really what you want, but unfortunately no embedded torrent search.

With OneSwarm you can rest assured that your BitTorrent transfers are reliable and secure.

Download OneSwarm 0.5 in Softonic

Weezo 3.0-Take control of your computer and files!

http://weezo.en.softonic.com

Weezo has a silly name but is a powerful program that allows you to control and access the files from your home computer from any other computer with an Internet connection.

Weezo can help make your life easier and increase your productivity. This program has an insane amount of features, some of which you may never use but it's nice knowing that they're there.

Security is taken very seriously with Weezo, so SSL is used to secure connections to your PC and random passwords are automatically generated for its different services. You can set up and allow multiple users to access your files, while pop ups alert you to who is accessing your files and services.

If you have a website or blog, Weezo offers an easy way to quickly upload and serve video, music, and photos. This is great for power users who want to serve their own content from their own machines. That said, most users will still want to upload to services like <taglink type="program" country="en" id="117535">YouTube</taglink> and <taglink type="program" country="en" id="113047">Vimeo</taglink>.

Some other features included with Weezo include a collaborative RSS reader, bookmark sync, chat program, and streaming TV from around the world. There are other tools out there that perform these functions (and are arguably better) but they store information in the cloud. Weezo is great if you want to have absolute control over your own data. You can even stream your entire music collection, as it also has <taglink type="program" country="en" id="30110">iTunes</taglink> and <taglink type="program" country="en" id="12217">Winamp</taglink> integration.

Weezo also has many collaboration features built in. You can easily share files by dragging and dropping them into the program. It will automatically zip your file(s) or generate a BitTorrent file for easy sharing. For local files you want others to access, you can designate a folder to dump files into which are viewable and downloadable via the Weezo web interface.

Speaking of interfaces, our only gripe about Weezo is that its interface leaves a lot to be desired. It is functional, but looks childish, with a mishmash of colors and glossy icons. There's a lot of unused space on some of the pages, which makes it sloppy. While not pretty, it functions just fine.

If we had to sum up Weezo in one word, it would be "ambitious." Weezo aims to help you control all of your files and media and it succeeds on the whole. We just hope Weezo's developers work on polishing its interface.

Download Weezo 3.0 in Softonic

Podmailing 0.10.0-Share big-sized files by email

http://podmailing.en.softonic.com

Large files are always difficult to share online. Free file sharing sites are a pain, not everybody has an FTP server to share stuff and sharing them by email can take ages – if your email server can handle a 10MB email attachment at all.

Fortunately now there's another way to share big-sized files using email: Podmailing. Of course it doesn't work the usual way (message plus attached file) but more like as a P2P client or maybe I should say P2M client, which is the right way to name this file sharing protocol. The idea is not new (see Pando) but Podmailing has launched to add more choice to the P2M market.

The program is really easy to use. Simply click on the "New" button, select the files or folders you want to share, enter the email addresses and add a message. That's pretty much everything, although bear in mind that you must leave the program open (and your Internet connection on) in order to send the file.

The addressees of your podmail will receive a message in their inboxes with a link to download the file, which they'll be able to do very comfortably from their own web browser without the need for any third-party apps. Anyway, there's also the possibility to download the file via Podmailing or using the BitTorrent protocol (which also works with Podmailing, as this program is also a torrent client).

The main drawback I found is that you have to wait until the file is completely uploaded before starting to download it directly from the browser, so if your friend wants to share a 9GB file you'd better be patient. At least you can always start downloading it right away by using the Podmailing app or any BitTorrent client, which don't require the file to be finished uploading. Also, uploaded files are saved for 30 days on the Podmailing's servers.

Podmailing is a new client for the P2M protocol with which you can easily share large-sized files on the Internet. It may not be the fastest method but it's reliable and above all, very easy to use.

Download Podmailing 0.10.0 in Softonic

BitTyrant 1.1.1-A selfish bittorrent client that improves performance

http://bittyrant.en.softonic.com

If you're not satisfied with your Torrent client and feel that you could squeeze some extra mileage out of your connection, then you should give BitTyrant a go.

BitTyrant uses a different type of torrent protocol that's compatible with BitTorrent and is optimized for fast download performance. Now, the big selling point of this client is speed although this cannot be guaranteed depending on what type of connection you have, how many seeds a torrent has etc.

However, the developers claim that it's up to three times quicker than Azureus and much fairer in the way it rewards uploaders rather than downloaders. In terms of interface however, there's little difference - BitTyrant looks exactly like Azureus although there are a few optional features to display statistics relevant to BitTyrant’s operation. There is however an underlying difference between it and other clients. BitTyrant differs in its selection of which peers to unchoke and send rates to unchoked peers. In this way, it theoretically means that bandwidth speeds are used more efficiently and fairly although as I say, much will depend on your own connection and ISP provider.

If you're happy with Azureus then there's no big reason to change to BitTyrant but if you've been experiencing declining download speeds or connection issues, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Download BitTyrant 1.1.1 in Softonic

BitSpirit 3.6.0.403-BitSpirit, a powerful & easy-to-use BitTorrent client

http://bitspirit.en.softonic.com

Although P2P networking still survives as a means of downloading video, audio and software, many people are now turning to torrents as a means of getting hold of their entertainment. While BitTorrent and BitComet rule the roost in terms of on-the-fly downloads, there are a few other pretenders to the crown that are worthy of a mention. BitSprit is definitely up with the best of them, allowing you to grab hold of torrents quickly without any fuss.

The application is significantly easier to use than many of its rivals, however, BitSpirit disappoints compared with its peers when it comes to tracking active downloads. If you would like to access information on your current download then you need to access the torrent itself, rather than relying on the application to provide you with this information.

That's not to say that BitSpirit is a total failure though, and the application boasts many assets to challenge the other contenders in the market. For instance, the app uses very little PC resources, leading to quick, smooth transfers that occur without any annoying program restarts. The program is very easy to pick up and use and save for a major bug when utilising the UPNP, BitSpirit is smooth and effective.

Originally a Chinese program, the app includes some horrible menu translations, making it often difficult to select the right menu option to access your download. That said, managing file download locations and tweaking options are both really simple operations. You are furnished with plenty of flexibility for accessing your downloads, giving you a host of options for choosing the source location and destination of the file.

If you're looking for a BitTorrent client that gives you access to files quickly through a simple interface, then BitSpirit is a worthy app. However, if you want a larger selection of files with a minimal chance of file corruption or hanging then you'd be better off sticking with the more reliable uTorrent or BitComet.

Download BitSpirit 3.6.0.403 in Softonic

Tixati is a simple but powerful free BitTorrent client for PC.

One of Tixati's most appealing characteristics is the simplicity of its layout. As you probably realize, configurations and settings are 90% of any BitTorrent client, but unfortunately, especially for less experienced users, this can be one of the most complicated and off-putting aspects.

Easy to Use

With Tixati, you won't have this problem. Although the client is packed full of features and tools, it's simply laid out and very easy to find your way around. There's excellent online help and support, while the app also comes with a crisp, clear overview log and built-in diagnostic tools.

Powerful Too

Tixati has all the tools you'd expect of a torrent app, as well as a few nice extras. It goes without saying that you'll be able to download via torrents, schedule tasks, filter IPs, limit bandwidth and even ensure you stay up to date with the latest available downloads thanks to a built-in RSS reader. It also offers complete DHT support and configuration options that should give you all the options you need, whether you are inexperienced or advanced.

Tixati is a BitTorrent client that provides power and speed without complications.
BitComet 1.35-Innovative P2P BitTorrent/HTTP/FTP download client

http://bitcomet.en.softonic.com

BitComet has been around on the P2P scene since 2003 and is still going as a BitTorrent/HTTP/FTP download client.

BitComet allows you to exchange files with other users although it must only be used for those files which can be legally exchanged online. The interface is similar to that of eMule with features running down the left hand pane, control buttons across the top and the torrents that are downloading in the main window in the center. Once files have started downloading, the regular stop, pause, cancel, update etc options are all available on BitComet plus a handy "remove torrent & all files" option which removes all trace of an unwanted torrent from your PC.

Download speeds are OK although not as good as similar P2P apps such as uTorrent. One of the reasons for this is that BitComet doesn't have as many users as it once had as more effective and user friendly alternatives entered the market. One of the more handy features of BitComet however is a ‘preview media’ option, which forces the torrent to download sequentially instead of randomly thus allowing you to preview any multimedia downloads. It’s a great way to avoid broken links, but, on the downside, it will slow down your download considerably.

Most recently, BitComet are experimenting with a feature that enables you to download some or all of the data in torrents from non-bittorrent sources, or even from peers of other torrents with all, or some of the same content. Note that this release is also the first bittorrent client to issue a stable 64bit version

Another interesting feature on BitComet is the ‘intelligent disk cache’ which really comes into its own on high speed connections. If you are lucky enough to get download transfer rates of 500 kb/s or higher, activating it allows BitComet to cache the data to access the disk less frequently. The result of this is that it doesn’t slow down your PC as receiving large amounts of data can sometimes do.

One downside of BitComet is that you are pestered with ads from time to time within the main interface. The other downside is that the uninstall procedure is not particularly clean. The application directory remains as does the registry entry although you can remove the former manually and the latter with any good registry cleaner such as Revo.

There are simpler and more popular clients out there, such as uTorrent <taglink type="program" country="en" id="43961">uTorrent</taglink> and Azureus that offer better download rates with less fuss. However, if you have a particularly fast connection, can’t wait for your files to download before watching them and enjoy a torrent client with lots of whistles and bells, BitComet might be for you.

Download BitComet 1.35 in Softonic

Vuze 4.9.0-High definition movies and downloads to your PC

http://vuze.en.softonic.com

With the release of Vuze, Azureus is jumping onto the legal torrent bandwagon. This application features the classic and extensive Azureus torrent client and adds to it an online platform from which you can download and submit legal audio and video content.

Vuze’s interface is a complete shake-up to what Azureus users are used to. The BitTorrent developer has decided to focus on online multimedia content and introduce user participation. The first thing the user sees is a "Find, Download, Play" screen to introduce you to Vuze. You can browse files by using the left side menu, divided in time, main channels and tags. The menu at the top also links to hot and new content. Vuze takes the web 2.0 road and you'll see that most of the files have tags. You can write out a comment and leave a rating. The program also makes it a no brainer to send a video by email and link to content directly from your blog or website. Additionally, there are social bookmarking links for each file.

Downloading torrents is as simple as using the search bar, which the gives you options to search the Vuze site and results from the major bittorent sites such as Btjunkie. You can also easily add more sites to that list if you wish.

We won’t expand on the qualities of the Azureus client, for which you can read a review <taglink type="program" country="en" id="31008">here</taglink>. Vuze tries to innovate by adding social tools to the program and providing legal content in the Vuze HD Network. There are numerous channels to choose from, yet we were disappointed with the content in general. On some channels there's very little to watch and on others you don't necessarily find what you were hoping for. Much of the content feels cheap and throwaway, even if it is in glorious HD.

On the downside Vuze does nothing to atone for Azureus's principal drawback: the overuse of your RAM and DSL connection. Yes, Vuze is still a resource and bandwidth hog, and there's nothing you can do about it.

The whole interface is really simple, though the program is so heavy you will get some slow down, and the amount of legal content is still limited, Vuze is a promising application for sharing and enjoying legal content.

If you're already hooked on the original Azureus bittorrent client, take a leap into the future with Vuze.

Download Vuze 4.9.0 in Softonic

TVTrigger 1.2.2-Everything you need to know about your favorite TV shows

http://tvtrigger.en.softonic.com

When you're following a dozen different TV shows at the same time, keeping track of all the episodes, characters and stories can be tricky. Here's where TVTrigger comes in handy.

With this application you can easily stay on top of all the TV shows you currently follow. TVTrigger lets you access all the information you may need about them, including season trailers, official soundtrack, the show's cast, a summary of the plot and other artistic and technical details.

In TVTrigger you can browse an impressive database of more than 3,000 shows, mark the ones you like as Favorites, and check the release dates for new seasons and episodes. TVTrigger even features a so-called 'Monitoring' tool, which searches automatically for new episodes of your favorite show.

TVTrigger includes a built-in BitTorrent search engine and download client. The search engine uses the four most popular torrent sites and lets you search by show name, season or episode. The client is quite basic, but if you don't like it you can always set TVTrigger to use your favorite BitTorrent client instead.

The program generally works fine, though it can get a bit slow when displaying data about a certain show, to the point of freezing completely from time to time.
