TweetDeck allows you to follow any number of Twitter and Facebook accounts you run in one columned application. The biggest change with this version of TweetDeck is it no longer installs through Adobe AIR, making getting started that little bit faster.

The appearance of TweetDeck is largely unchanged. It's clean and easy to understand, and still probably the best app for using multiple accounts. The default setting features a Home feed of updates from all your accounts together. Then there is the @Me feed, which shows all interactions with you on Twitter or Facebook. Finally there is an Inbox for Direct Messages in Twitter. You can add to any of these from a selection of things like Lists or Tweets, and remove any of them too.

TweetDeck is absolutely essential if you use more than one Twitter account. It's easy to use, and very clearly designed, with the added security of Twitter's official support. Making a real installer so Adobe AIR isn't required is a great improvement on earlier versions too.

Click on the circular logo in the Firefox statusbar, and the Echofon for Twitter interface pops up. You can read new tweets and post your own. It does basically everything you can do from the Twitter homepage, viewing of user profiles included. Retweeting, replying and copying tweets is a cinch. Links are shortened where necessary, and there are tabs so you can view your mentions, personal messages and lists.

Right clicking the Echofon for Twitter logo opens a context menu where you can refresh the timeline, tweet the page you’re currently visiting and access the program’s preferences. Echofon for Twitter has support for multiple accounts, and this context menu also allows you to switch between them.

Some of the most interesting features in Echofon for Twitter include three app modes (panel, window or sidebar), iPhone syncing (if you use the Echofon Pro app for iOS) and the ability to temporarily mute certain users, applications or hashtags. On the downside, support for themes is gone, and you can’t set a custom time interval for timeline refresh.

If you've ever wished you could just package all your favorite web browsing features into one program, you're in luck. That's exactly what AOL 9.6 does. As a company, America Online has been churning out similar types of programs for well over a decade now, and they still appear to be going strong. With this new version of one of their most popular programs, users get an updated look, as well as a more integrated web browsing experience.

Probably one of the nicest features is the ability to search for specific topics online from the comfort of your desktop. AOL 9.6 comes with a gadget, where you can type in your search queries. Of course, in order to actually see the results, you have to have a browser available to bring up AOL's search engine. That's where this program starts to shine. AOL 9.6 offers you a browser feature, along with its competent search engine to find just what you're looking for.

Included as well is the popular messaging program, AOL Instant Messenger. Also known as AIM, this is arguably one of the longest running and most popular instant messaging programs on the internet to this day. The latest version of AIM comes installed on the program and is nicely integrated into the browser conveniently off to one side. It won't usually get in the way of your internet surfing expeditions, but it's there in case you want to chat with friends just the same.

Unfortunately, there's nothing overly innovative about AOL 9.6. Everything here has been seen before, and some might argue that newer browsers with social media integration do it even better. With Facebook chat built into browsers like RockMelt and Flock, it sometimes seems as though programs like AIM are largely becoming unnecessary. In addition, AOL 9.6 has a tendency of crashing or freezing up if you're running even a few additional programs at the same time.

AOL 9.6 certainly isn't breaking any new ground, but for loyal America Online users it's a nice upgrade.

Most people only have one Facebook account. With the growing incidents of employers requesting access to your Facebook pages before making hiring decisions though, some people have started creating two accounts - one that's public and another, more private account for close friends and family members.

If this is something you do, you already know how frustrating it is to have to log in and out repeatedly or deal with switching between browsers in order to access both of your accounts. Social for Facebook fixes this issue specifically, by allowing allowing you to switch between multiple Facebook accounts in a tabbed interface.

Social for Facebook is an app that you access from your desktop. It feels essentially the same as the Facebook you're familiar with in your browser, which is a huge perk, since it also retains all of the functionality. That means if you want to play games like Words with Friends or even post in a group you're a member of, Social for Facebook will let you do it.

In addition, you can use Facebook's instant messaging program, as well as respond to messages with Social for Facebook. Pop-ups in the system tray can get supremely annoying if you're having multiple conversations, but at least Social for Facebook lets you disable them fairly easily. The same goes for sound notifications.

The only thing it wasn't clear that Social for Facebook could do was allow you to switch between a personal account and a business or fan page. This isn't a huge downside, since Facebook now lets you do that without too much difficulty, but it'd still be a nice feature to implement in the future.

Social for Facebook hits all the right notes in giving users the full Facebook experience straight from their desktop, no matter how many Facebook accounts they happen to have.

The interface in CoolNovo is identical to Google Chrome, with the new features being mainly under the hood: close tabs by double clicking on them, browse the web with mouse gestures, open links by dragging and dropping them, open Internet Explorer tabs and have download managers embedded into the browser's context menu.

The new tools in CoolNovo certainly make web browsing more comfortable, but they also lack proper configuration options. Mouse gestures, for example, can't be tweaked at all.

CoolNovo is a web browser based on Google Chrome's engine with some handy extra features that make it even easier to use.

MyPublicWiFi is free and easy to configure although it requires you to restart your PC. To share a WiFi connection, type the WiFi network name in the SSID field, enter the password or network key and then from the drop-down menu, choose the connection you want to share.

Once your repeating or sharing a connection, you can see exactly who is using the connection via tabs. The Management field allows you to change the language of MyPublicWiFi or check the log of connections you have made.

Beyond that, there aren't many other options. However, one useful feature is MyPublicWiFi P2P blocking which prevents people who connect through your PC to download files via Torrent or eMule which could drastically block or slowdown your connection.

GPS for Google Earth is compatible with all major GPS receivers and doesn't need an internet connection to work - only the file containing the GPS coordinates. Twitter's a great way to stay connected, not just with friends and family, but also with the latest breaking news in your topics of choice. Some people like to organize their interests by different accounts though, or even manage a separate business-related Twitter account.

Twitter itself doesn't have an easy solution for managing multiple accounts; you just have to log out of one and into another if you want to switch accounts or, in the alternative, browser hop. That's a total hassle that Social for Twitter does away with, thankfully.

It allows the scanning, storing and exchanging of complex color documents such as magazine articles, maps, technical manuals and archived financial records. The plug in allows your browser to interpret the resolution of the images and display them correctly in Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer. Despite it's power, it's a very small plugin requiring only 900KB to download and can even be added to applications using ActiveX via VB, .NET and C++. As yet, the plugin is only available in a limited number of languages, mainly English, Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Korean, Italian, Polish and Chinese. The problem with this plugin is that you very rarely have to view DjVu images in you're an average home user although I can see it would be useful for professionals, designers etc. The other thing is that, a bit like Adobe Reader, it has a tendency to hang when opening images or texts in DjVu format. There's no telling sometimes whether it has crashed or is just slow in opening the file. It would have been more useful if they'd added a status bar when it's opening files for this reason.

If you view DjVu files and images frequently, then this is an essential plug in although don't expect it to reveal what it's supposed to every time.

There are a lot of great pictures online, from memes to gorgeous professional photography. You can opt to save the ones you like to your computer or maybe even post them to Tumblr, although if you're a frequent poster they might soon get lost in the chatter. There's also a basic text field from which you can send messages to your own Twitter, but unfortunately you won't be able to read them. Also, I noticed a couple of bugs: first, if you enter a wrong password, the program freezes; second, if you hide the menu bar, there's no way to bring it back (or at least I couldn't find it).

However, if you'd like extended functionality such as the ability to also read your own tweets or manage several accounts, I'd recommend other desktop clients like TwitBox or Twhirl, which is also based on AIR.
