Ant.com Video Downloader has five functions: Search, Download, Player, Explore and Rank. It also has a Help button that takes you directly to an FAQ section on the Ant.com homepage. The Ant.com Video Downloader Search feature lets you search either from within the Ant.com Video Downloader itself or takes you to the Ant.com website.

The videos are automatically downloaded to a special Ant.com folder. That's where the Explore button comes in handy, as it opens up the folder that contains your Ant.com Video Downloader downloads. The toolbar has more configuration options than the average add-on, and you can change the download location, as well as a few other options. The Ant.com Video Downloader player, which opens in a new window, is sleek with a large screen and is an infinitely better option than some of the horrible players available with other apps.

A small issue that popped up while using the Ant.com Video Downloader was the lack of a definitive list of the video sites it supports. It does mention that it is specifically for .FLV videos, but we couldn't tell if that means all .FLV videos. Bear in mind that on some video sharing websites, such as Google Videos, the Ant.com Video Downloader can't detect the name of the file and downloads it as Google Videos 1, 2 etc.

The Ask. com Toolbar also gives you handy access to page resizing and a Highlight function, but I have to admit that I couldn't make this work during my tests.
On the far right there are a limited number of configuration options, among them options to display recent searches or clear them when you exit the browser.
Ask. com Toolbar isn't revolutionary, but if you like the Ask search engine, it is a nice way of adding some subtle search power to your browsing experience.

The Alexa Toolbar works with Internet Explorer. It doesn't get off to a great start - the toolbar isn't very attractive and it's a little slow, but not enough to be a real problem. Alexa Toolbar will appeal to users who are interested in knowing how popular their or others' websites are. It provides direct links to the hottest websites, search terms and direct links to Alexa data about the webpage you're viewing.

The app also links to archives - old versions of websites - and allows you to tweet information directly. You can also use Alexa Toolbar as a regular search engine and take advantage of integrated search services such as Wikipedia and Amazon.com. As toolbars go, Alexa Toolbar isn't that impressive. Obviously if you are a frequent user of Alexa, it might provide the speedy link to the information you need, but unless you are already a regular user, you're unlikely to fall in love.

Alexa Toolbar provides rapid access to Alexa information but, as a toolbar, isn't very impressive.

This toolbar is known as Sparky in its version for the Firefox browser and offers pretty much the same functionality as its Internet Explorer equivalent, but with a different design. This means you'll be able to check all the Alexa data relating to the site you're currently visiting with Firefox (rank position, domain information) as well as other sites that visitors to that webpage also visited, which is a great way to discover new sites.

The difference between the Internet Explorer and the Firefox versions of the Alexa Toolbar is that in the first one the toolbar is displayed as is (as a toolbar attached to the top area of the browser's interface) while the second one displays its elements in different areas of the browser: the Alexa ranking appears on the status bar, the Related links section is showed next to the "Help" menu and the Alexa search engine appears in the search engines list in Firefox.

In this sense, while you'll have to dig a bit deeper to find its tools, the Alexa Toolbar for Firefox offers the same functionality and features as the original Internet Explorer version. That said, bear in mind that this toolbar does collect some data about your browsing habits, but then again, if it didn't, we couldn't have the Alexa ranking and information about related sites. In any case, if you're worried about your privacy, read the Alexa privacy policy before installing this toolbar.

The Alexa Toolbar is a handy add-on for Firefox where you can track your website's position in the Alexa ranking, keep an eye on competitors and also discover new websites that are similar to yours.

Other features include a multi-language spell check, Google search box and a built-in auto-filler for forms and other fields. You can even check your Gmail via the toolbar without having to open your inbox within Firefox. Other add-ons you may choose to select or deselect is a pagerank tool. The number of buttons you can add is a bit overwhelming in fact and can soon leave Firefox looking bloated and cluttered. You can also sync toolbars across two computers so that they are identical on both machines.

Most worryingly however is the memory leak associated with Google Toolbar. I was using the latest version of Firefox (version 3.6.3) on Mac and found that at random moments, it leaks memory terribly meaning that Firefox simply freezes with the spinning wheel of death crashing the browser. I haven't experienced the same problem on Windows although it is listed by Mozilla as an add-on that is susceptible to this problem. The only solution is to deactivate or uninstall it in your Add-Ons menu and wait until Mozilla and Google find a solution.

Google Toolbar is designed to increase productivity and make life easier although if you experience memory leaks with the latest version of Firefox using it may be more trouble than it's worth.

This unobtrusive and elegant toolbar offers you five major functionalities to pick up images and graphics, in the shape of: screen capture, horizontal and vertical pixel rulers, a colour picker, a magnifying glass and a note taker.

You can create your own palette by adding an unlimited number of colours or choosing one from VMN’s own palette. If you’re a web designer, this is useful for picking-up a shade you like and want to use on your website.

Similarly, the pixel ruler will be of interest to webmasters, allowing you to move the horizontal and vertical rulers around your screen to measure the size of elements like photos or logos.

You could use this if you’re creating an advertising campaign or a presentation and you’re not sure of the size you want your graphics and photos to be.

We were disappointed that you can only save in BMP and JPG, but most users will be content with these options. The magnifier cleverly focuses on where your arrow goes and can amplify from a range of x2 to x10.

The note taker doesn’t really provide anything original but you might enjoy being able to jot down notes that will be available on your desktop.

While more experienced users will use separate and more powerful solutions like SnagIt for screen captures or Absolute Color Picker, VMN Toolbox is a great all-in one solution that aspiring web designers and regular internet users will enjoy.
