Racer is a free cross-platform car simulation project (for non-commercial use), using professional car physics papers to achieve a realistic feeling. Cars, tracks and such can be created relatively easy (compared to other, more closed, driving simulations). The 3D and other file formats are, or should be, documented.

Editors and support programs are also available to get a very customizable and expandable simulator. OpenGL is used for rendering.

Igowin 1.0 - Learn to play Go with this virtual board

Go is an ancient board game that originated in China about two thousand years ago, which has only recently become quite popular in the West. Like chess, it's got a few simple rules, but involves a lot of strategy and planning.

With iGoWin you can now play Go on your PC against a computer-controlled opponent. The game starts with a new game right after launch – no introduction or tutorials - so if you are a newcomer to Go you may feel a bit lost. Luckily iGoWin is thoroughly documented. The Help section includes all the rules you need to know to play the game and even some basic questions to make sure you understand them.

iGoWin doesn't require installation and is the kind of simple, straightforward game that's perfectly suitable for a short break from work. I still miss being able to play against another human opponent though, which always makes gaming a lot more fun.

If you're looking for something different to play during your coffee break, give iGoWin a try.

Broken Sword 2.5 The Return of the Templars - Solve the mysteries in this traditional point-and-click adventure

Broken Sword 2.5 is a new episode in the popular Broken Sword series, only that it was created by a group of fans of the game instead of the official developer.

As you can tell by the name, Broken Sword 2.5 sits in between the second and third episodes of the official series. Like the first two titles of the franchise, it's based on the point-and-click style of old school conversational adventures like the ones we used to enjoy from LucasArts.

In Broken Sword 2.5 you're George, the main character in the game's plot. The first steps in the story take you to Paris, after receiving a mysterious telegram that announces the death of Nico, your friend and adventure colleague. Nico however is alive and kicking, but strangely enough she doesn't seem to be very friendly with you. From this point onwards, your mission will consist on discovering what your friend is involved in.

Broken Sword 2.5 uses bright, colorful comic-style graphics that don’t intend to be realistic at all, but still are very eye-catching. As for gameplay, I find the game too slow, but maybe that's because I'm used to more action-packed titles. The real drawback in my opinion is language: the game has English subtitles, but it would be great to have English voices as well.

Broken Sword 2.5 follows the traditional point-and-click adventure style and presents you with a nicely designed - yet slow – story of mystery and intrigue.

Pozzo - Jello Crusade - Clean up the rotten jellos before the health inspector arrives

If there were awards for weird originality, then Pozzo - Jello Crusade, would surely win. In this game, you play the role of a janitor named Pozzo who works for a jello restaurant.

His dream is to save enough money to escape the hell he finds himself in but unfortunately his manager has found out that the local health inspector is dropping by for an unscheduled check. Your task is to clean up the entire premises of rotten jellos but here's the catch - Pozzo has no limbs and can't help eating all the jello he finds (I told you it was weird).

Pozzo cannot retrace his steps once he has eaten jellos off a tile which is about the only little "challenge" that the game seems to offer. However, the levels are quite imaginative even if the graphics certainly are not. New blocks and tiles appear from time to time which attempt to block Pozzo's way. In later levels, you have to be much more careful about the routes you take as the pitfalls grow deeper.

Poor graphics and a dodgy soundtrack combined with a bizarre concept make Pozzo - Jello Crusade one of the more unusual and less satisfying puzzle games out there.

mGomoku - A classic Japanese "Connect 4" style puzzle

If you've never heard of it, then Gomoku is a classic Japanese puzzle game also known as Five-Stones, Five-In-Row, Five-In-Line, Tic-Tac-Toe, Make-Five, Renju, Gobang and Piškvorky.

The rules are simple - to win you must have a continuous line of five stones of the same color. Like in Connect 4 - the The line can be either vertical, horizontal or diagonal except there's 5 instead of 4 of course! You can select between wither the devil or an angel as your player of choice and can choose one of three strategies and 5 possible levels.

mGomoku features some very colorful graphics, some natty visual effects plus the sound effects aren't bad either. You can choose your level of difficulty although the higher levels are virtually impossible to master. It would have been nice if you could have a two player mode too but as it is, you'll just have to settle for playing against your PC.

mGomoku isn't the most original puzzle out there but it delivers more than a fair few hours of entertainment.

Axiebal 7 - Puzzles and balls combine in this platform game

What do you get if you mix balls, puzzles and action and add your own level editor in their for good measure?

The answer is Axiebal 7 which sees you control a ball through a valley of torment and even allows you to design your own levels. Axiebal 7 works on a top-down view and scrolling levels to give you the feel of a hand held console game. Your aim is basically to guide the ball through several death defying levels while avoiding all kinds of obstacles and dangers that lie in your way.

On your way, you must collect flags until you reach your base again. However, the biggest danger you'll face is falling off a cliff so steering your ball to reach the craftily placed flags is not as easy as it may sound. There are also solid walls that stand in your way but you can blow them up with bombs to find your way home. Best of all however is the Axiebal 7 level editor which gives you the option to create your own challenges and courses when the default levels become too boring.

For a free fun game, Axiebal 7 is a decent time waster and offers a nice combination of action and puzzles.

UltraStar is the PC version of the famous karaoke game series for Playstation - Singstar. The game works just like a traditional karaoke system: it plays the song and displays the lyrics simultaneously, so that you can sing along your favorite artists.

The original point about UltraStar is that it gives you a score according to your artistic abilities. The game analyzes your voice pitch and evaluates how good you are when you sing, allowing you to improve and polish up your syle.

Being an open source application, UltraStar is under constant development. There's a very proactive user community behind the program who works hard to improve the program itself and also to create new song files to sing along.

TSDisp 1.13 - See exactly who you're talking to on Teamspeak

TSDisp is designed for all users of Teamspeak who want to see exactly who they are talking to at any time.

TSDisp adds the option of being able to read the screen name of the person who is speaking to you to remove any confusion in group meetings. To use it, you need Teamspeak connected, and through TSDisp simply select a channel of "vigilance". Once done, you can see the screen name of the person who is speaking. There's actually not much more to it than that.

However, by the developer's own admission, there are a few bugs with TSDisp, one of which is it doesn't always work if you switch a game or other application to full screen mode as it does not remain in the foreground like it's supposed to. It could also do with a few customization options as to the way names are displayed - a few ways of changing the colour at the very least.

TSDisp is a handy plugin for Teamspeak users who want to know exactly who they're talking to or who deal with big online meetings.

Bsnes is a Super Nintendo emulator that's been around since 2004 and is known for its efforts to reproduce Super Nintendo games in pixel perfect accuracy.

The emulator also gives special focus to ensuring that your gaming experience is as bug-free as possible. However, in order to reproduce the speed and playability of SNES games, the RAM load of Bsnes is quite high and you may experience some freezes if you're working on a slower system.

It doesn't help that Bsnes heavily utilises Direct3D, OpenGL, DirectSound and DirectInput to get such good results but the payoff is probably worth if you're running a faster machine. However, even if you do have decent hardware, you'll probably experience a few bugs and crashes as it is still very much a work in progress.

If you had a Snes or loved the old console, then Bsnes is surely one of the most accurate emulators out there.

Spaceships and asteroids have served to create arcade classics for time immemorial and Max Fighter brings together all the old elements for a blast from the past.

You basically find your spaceship hurtling through an asteroid field which is growing in intensity the further you go into space. Not only that, but you're under attack from pirates intent on blowing you out of the galaxy. Well, that's the basics of Max Fighter and to be frank, it's pretty chaotic and crazy and sometimes hard to tell the pirates from the asteroids but at the same time, it's quite gripping.

The interesting part of Max Fighter is that you have to shoot the asteroids and floating containers that litter space and collect power-ups, shields and special weapons along the way. The weapons however only seem the range from a small gun to a big gun although with old skool graphics like these, what more do you expect.

Max Fighter brings together classic elements of space invaders and throws them all together in one heady, crazy mix.

The Suffering - Will you survive in this terrifying prison?

I'm not particularly fond of terror and gore movies, and that extends to videogames of this ilk as well. However, I can still appreciate good examples of the horror genre, like The Suffering.

The game's story begins with the main character – you, that is – being sent to prison for killing his whole family, though as we eventually find out there is nothing to prove you guilty and you don't remember anything about it either. Soon after your entrance the prison is shaken by some kind of earthquake and a series of nasty, deadly creatures begin killing prisoners and prison guardians. In other words, chaos takes over everything.

This is where the real adventure begins. Without knowing what is really happening and having very few weapons, you mission consists on exploring the prison corridors and fighting these strange creatures.

Honestly, the graphics in The Suffering are not brilliant. But that doesn't prevent you from enjoying every single bit of the game, thanks to its easy gameplay and immersive plot.

The atmosphere in The Suffering can get really oppressive: the prison is so dark that sometimes you don't see a thing. Also you hear mysterious voices whispering at you all the time, only interrupted by people desperately screaming while being chopped up. If there's anything to complain about in The Suffering, it would be its level of violence. If you think you're not ready for really shocking, bloody scenes you'd better not try this one.

The Suffering is a great terror game that may not have the greatest graphics, but really gets you hooked up to the story.

A very long time ago a dragon named Bolgrot arrived in the eternal Province of Amakna. The young Rykke Errel was the only one with sufficient courage to face the terrible creature. Instead of reducing him to dust as he could easily have done, the dragon prostrated himself before the young paladin and swore allegiance to him.

Rykke met Helséphine, a young enchantress, and fell madly in love with her. When he introduced Helséphine to Bolgrot, Rykke could not have imagined what would happen.
The dragon, mad with rage, slew the sweet Helséphine and flew far away, ravaging everything in his path. Rykke threw himself into the pursuit of the dragon. When he found him, the two former friends clashed in a titanic struggle. Using his weapons and his magic, Rykke managed to strike down the dragon; however, mortally wounded, the young hero died soon afterwards.

Seeking an explanation for the sudden violence shown by Bolgrot, the sages of Amakna discovered in the dragon’s entrails 6 strangely coloured eggs that they called DOFUS. Consequently, it was discovered that when these eggs were reunited their power was absolute. Absolute, but also unstable. The sages took the wise decision to keep these terrible relics a closely guarded secret.

During the centuries that followed the secret of the existence of the DOFUS was so well guarded that it was eventually forgotten altogether. But one accursed day, the guardians of the secret discovered that the DOFUS had disappeared. The news was not slow to spread, arousing terror and covetousness.

It was not long before numerous adventurers arrived in Amakna, attracted by the prospect of glory or plunder. The destiny of Amakna from the on became uncertain, and the appearance of many unknown and terrifying creatures added to the confusion.

The game is free though quite limited, as it only includes two gaming modes: a race against five other computer-controlled Mercedes through the streets of London and a single lap time trial against your personal best record. At least the scenarios are pretty realistic, giving you the opportunity to do some high-speed sightseeing around London or enjoy cool races at night.

The only choice of car available is obviously a Mercedes, but there are some customization options available such as changing color or getting new wheels. There are also three different difficulty levels that tailor the game to your driving skills.

That said, the truth is that Mercedes CLC Dream Test Drive is not a very fun driving game and it has some surprisingly odd characteristics, like the absence of driver or the fact that the car is not affected by crashes. In a way it feels more like an interactive ad than a real computer game, so unless you're a fan of the famous German car brand, I'd recommend downloading other driving games before this one.

Mercedes CLC Dream Test Drive is definitely a game for Mercedes fans: other people may find it too limited and a bit frustrating.

Afterlife 1.7.3 - Save the world from hell in a hot air balloon

OK, so the storyline is a little far-fetched - you take control of the cleverly-named Rickard Bronson and must save the planet from an afterlife in hell using nothing but your hot air balloon - but Afterlife actually provides you with hours of fun. It can take a little while to master your craft but the controls can be customized and after a frustrating couple of first levels, the game turns into an action-packed romp through the dimensions of hell.

Afterlife isn't going to win any awards for its graphics, and the blocky ghosts and badly-rendered fireballs aren't exactly scarey. However, there's a decent soundtrack of music composed by the software developer with lots of tunes that can be hand-picked by you. It's a highly original adventure game, that if you have the patience to practice at will become something you can come back to time and again.

Space Ping Pong - Remake of the classic Pong Arcade Game

Just when you thought another variation on Pong! wasn't possible comes Space Ping Pong - a psychedelic space-age version of the classic game.

Space Ping Pong is basically Pong! with psychedelic music, weird and wonderful graphics but with the same addictive gameplay. There are two modes of gameplay - against the computer or against a friend although you both have to use the same keyboard.

In this demo version, the maximum you can score in one strike is 7 points. The graphics basically look a more blurry of the original Pong! but the gameplay is virtually identical except there's a few added sound effects. The problem is it doesn't really add anything to the original except some slightly more colourful graphics.

Space Ping Pong is probably only appealing for all those hardcore Pong! fans that just can't get enough.

Isanaki 2.2a - Sudoku for the hardcore puzzle fan

Isanaki may only have six levels but it will surely be one of the hardest Sudoku games you've ever played.

The rules of the game are classic Sudoku. The aim is to fill the board so that each number appears only once in any row, column and block. However, Isanaki extends itself to 9x9 and 16x16 Sudoku boards, which can be extremely tough. The good thing is, if you simply can't work it out Isanaki will do it for you.

Isanaki also uses Wordoku boards which, while Sudoku boards contain only numbers from one to nine (and letters from A to G for 16x16 boards), Wordoku boards contain only letters. You don't really expect much in graphics from a Sudoku game although you can't help feeling the developers could have made a little more effort in this department. However, it's the intelligence and challenge of Isanaki that impresses - if you can handle this, you can handle any Sudoku variation.

Isanaki is only for those Sudoku (or Wordoku) players that really want to stretch themselves to new puzzle solving limits.

FlashOffliner 1.0 - Play your Flash games without an internet connection

If you love playing Flash games but don't always have an internet connection, then FlashOffliner is what you need.

FlashOffliner is a system tray program that lists and runs games made with Adobe Flash and allows you to play games without an internet connection. The program basically "saves" games for offline storage, which can then be accessed and played at any point. The other big advantage of this is that you don't have to deal with advertisements.

The first thing to do is to right-click on the game you want to play and view the source code. In FlashOffliner window, paste this code in and it will save the games as a SWF file. Once you've done it, you can play the game independently of the program, although you can use CTRL+R to reset the game at any point.

FlashOffliner is an excellent addition to every Flash gamer's connection and a great way to avoid adverts.
