Turret Wars is a fast paced 3D arcade game, where you battle against enemy gun turrets, finding and destroying them before they find and destroy you!

Choose from 6 amazing playing environments, each with their own difficulties and strategies, or select RANDOM and let the game select random environments for you.

Choose from four different gun turret types, each with slightly different weapon and armor or projectile features. Computer controlled enemy turrets will be chosen as a random selection of these turret types.

You get the choice of fighting against one to seven other computer controlled gun turrets, in three different difficulty levels. Each difficulty level also introduces differing wind conditions.

High scores are saved on our game server (if you have an active internet connection) so you can compare your scores against other players around the world, based on difficulty level, environment and enemy turrets being fought.

Devil May Cry 4 Trial Edition - The devil hunter is back with a new combat system

The game presents the hard battle between the forces of evil and a powerful hero – the character we control. This time it's not just Dante (the original protagonist), but two people instead: the aforementioned Dante and also Nero, who appears in this demo and has nothing to do with the CD burning tool.

The game's objectives involve completing several missions, gathering objects and of course, killing all the evil creatures you'll find on your way to the final boss. And the best part in the game is precisely these fights against demons, monsters and other strange living beings. Being a hack and slash adventure, Devil May Cry 4 focuses on close combats and enables you to perform extraordinary movements and incredible combos with your sword and a new powerful weapon, the Devil Bringer. Plus, battles feature a hard-beating background music that reminds me of the Blade original soundtrack and which only make them more exciting.

The graphics in Devil May Cry are impressive. I tested the game on a Vista machine with DirectX 10, and I can tell the game makes the most of the computer's resources, rendering beautiful landscapes, realistic light effects and smooth movements.

On the downside we find game's controls. You can really tell this game was originally developed for consoles, because it's really hard to control it with a keyboard. If you have a gamepad you can plug into your PC, I'd recommend using it even if it's only to test the demo.

Devil May Cry 4 presents us with a new episode in the war between Nero and Dante against the forces of evil. Great graphics and brilliant battles make of this game a worthy action adventure, despite its difficult keyboard controls.

Feeding Frenzy 2 - Climb to the top of the food chain, or be eaten!

If you liked the film Finding Nemo then you might be enthralled by Feeding Frenzy 2 which takes Feeding Frenzy One and just adds bigger fish and more sharks!

You're aim to to destroy the Shark King but in between you and him stand a multitude of monsters, creepy crawlies and other underwater demons designed to stop you on your mission. Your weapon is your stomach - simply eat as many of them in as quick a time as possible but avoid being eaten yourself. Along the way, you can collect powerups which give you a few extra energy boosts along the way to help you dart out of the way of trouble. The gameplay is fast and furious and the graphics are cartoon style but cute. It's quite amusing watching your character get fatter and fatter as he approaches the final levels although it's not particularly challenging. It seems there are only a handful of levels and within your first few games, you'll probably find yourself nearing the shark king. For this reason, it's probably a game highly suitable for young kids because it's easy to play, colourful to look at and there's no blood and gore!

A pretty addictive little game although more suitable for children than adults as it's way too easy to meet your nemesis - or should I say, nemefish.

Teeworlds 0.4.2 - Excellent free Worms style game in 2D

In terms of originality, Teeworlds scores top marks. if you combined Hello Kitty with Kirby's Dreamland and Quake III, then you'd get somewhere close to the concept.

You can choose from 17 character designs and fight against one or more persons in the different scenarios available through LAN or the Internet. The latest release also incorporates "fair" player spawning, the ability to kick players, and a very cute welcome screen to encourage players to set their names and favorite settings before playing their first game. The game has quite a few similarities to the Worms series of games, with the big exception that Teeworlds is played in real-time, while Worms is turn based.

The game is played using both mouse and keyboard - A/D moves your "Tee" left and right, W/spacebar makes it jump, and the mouse is used to aim and fire. Right-clicking launches a grappling hook, which can be used to move around the map quickly, and also grab other players. The game is so far free-for-all only, but a Capture the flag mode seems to be in the works. The problem comes if you try to set up your own server to play against a friend though - it's immensely complicated but there is an FAQ to help you through.

Fun, action packed and easy to play - if only Teeworlds was easier to play against others over the net, it would be even better.

Cry of the Infected - Attack of the zombies!

Imagine you've turned into a Zombie and lost your wife and now you have to find her again. Sound like an unlikely scenario?

Well not in Cry of the Infected where you play the role of Robert, a man trying to find his missing wife in a city torn apart by the zombie outbreak. You are constantly pursued by teams of soldiers that are running amok while the zombies attempt to take over town. Robert is confronted by the apocalyptic state of his city which is on the verge of tearing itself apart which is why everyone is turning into zombies. The game takes the format of a first person role playing game and features some pretty basic but fun 3D graphics. There are 13 levels of action although the developers say that playing time is a maximum of a few hours with an alternate ending possible if you find a mysterious secret weapon. It's obvious that the developers have kept detail down to a minimum - there's not much in the way of anything but soldiers and zombies running around but at least this makes it easy to play and follow. However, it would have been considerably better if they'd put a bit more effort into throwing in a few more detailed graphics and a slightly expanded plot and narrative.

A fun and simple zombie game although you won't need more than a few hours to complete it.

BloodMasters 1.0 - A free, old-style onine multiplayer action game

If you're looking for an easygoing action game, one you can play just for fun even if you're not very good at shooters, you should definitely give Bloodmasters a go.

Featuring a top-down perspective like old style games, this action title enables you to fight against other players both in LAN and online battles that can take place in different maps. The aim depends on the type of game you're playing: Deathmatch, Scavenger or Capture the flag, either in individual competition or by teams.

The game's graphics are quite simple and the maps are ridiculously small, consisting mainly of a large room with corridors, stairs and dark spots where you can hide away from your enemies. There are different weapons and ammo scattered all over the map for you to pick up and use.

Bloodmasters lacks single player mode, which makes it quite limited in terms of gameplay. During our tests we could only find three online servers to play, but I guess the funniest way to enjoy the game is by fighting against friends on a local network.

Bloodmasters is an easy, old school multiplayer action game with an overhead view. Despite its tiny maps and basic graphics, it's loads of fun when played against friends online or in a LAN.

Kumoon 1.2 - An armed chick in search of red cubes

If there's one word to define Kumoon, that's originality. This bizarre game mixes elements from puzzles with a first-person shooter where your main character is a chick.

Yes, you didn't misread it. One of those sweet, cute yellow chicks you see in cartoon movies. Beware though: this chick is armed to the teeth and willing to make his way along the 39 levels included in the game by clearing rooms one after the other. To clear rooms, you must knock down all the red cubes in it with the help of your weapons (revolver, shotgun or bazooka).

But easy as it sounds, Kumoon is certainly a fiddly game because the more bullets you use in clearing the room, the more negative points you get – and therefore the more unlikely you are to finish it successfully. The trick then is to clear the room with the fewest bullets possible, as well as using multiplying factors such as bouncing bullets on walls before actually hitting the red cubes.

Kumoon is certainly a very original game, with easy gameplay and very well done physics. Plus it doesn't require installation: simply unzip and play, and before you realize you'll be hooked on the little cute bazooka-chick!

Kumoon may not be the latest state-of-the-art game but it sure is an entertaining, fun game with many levels to challenge your strategic skills.

The Club Demo - Join The Club and fight for survival

The Club is one of the most exciting FPS games we've tested in months. Its jaw-dropping graphics, engaging plot and frantic action do make up for the almost 2GB download.

One first tip: do not skip the cinematic intro scene. It's a good way to be introduced to the main characters in The Club and also get a glimpse of the impressive graphic quality of this game. Also, before actually starting to play, The Club guides you through a quick handy tutorial that teaches you some basic rules in just a couple of minutes, covering weapons, scoring system and special combos that enable you to earn more points.

Now straight to the point: The Club is not about killing anything that dares move before you. It's about being lethally precise. This means that, for example, killing someone with a shot in the head will reward you more points than erasing them with a machine gun burst. The score is also higher if you perform special combos that require agility and quick reflexes. Also, you'll have to watch for and special signs hidden in the scenery.

Talking about scenarios, these are depicted with an amazing level of detail. The graphical perfection goes on in character design, movement and physics, building such a realistic environment that you feel completely immersed into action.

You can play The Club all by yourself with computer-controlled enemies but needless to say, the game is far better when you play online. Apparently The Club enables you to compete against up to 15 other players - and note I said apparently because unfortunately there's no multiplayer option in this demo.

Despite the lack of online games, this demo brings you an excellent preview of what seems to be an extraordinary action game at all levels: graphics, gameplay and fun.

Penumbra: Black Plague - Dark and creepy psychological thriller

If you like horror movies and you love PC games then Penumbra: Black Plague will probably be right up your street.

You take the role of Phillip, who must find out what happened to his father, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. You are trapped in a shadowy, underground complex where threats, ghouls and ghosts are waiting to pounce. To prevent succumbing to their clutches, you must collect clues and solve puzzles while dealing with psychological traumas that prevent you in your quest.

Indeed, it seems the main aim of this game, apart from finding your father, is maintaining your hero's sanity. The eerie mood is bolstered by a creepy soundtrack and sound effects that crank up the tension as you struggle with your puzzles. The game uses some terrific 3D graphics and what the developers call "real-time lightning" that give the game a high degree of depth and realism. The game's plot links together very well with successive puzzles that you solve and I like the way that the game imposes few limits on what you can and can't do in the game. You can for example pick up more or less anything you see and move them around by dragging and dropping them with your mouse.

For atmosphere, this game wins full marks although it's very slow moving and if you're not the puzzle solving type, you'll probably lose interest very quickly.

Conflict: Denied Ops Demo - Two agents, one mission

Conflict: Denied Ops brings us back again to first-person action shooters, this time with a really innovative twist: you'll control two characters instead of one.

The story presents a group of paramilitary squads controlled by the CIA who are entrusted with a series of dangerous missions located in different conflictive areas all over the world. Your two characters belong to this team but have different ways to approach each mission's aims: one is a sniper, the other is a heavy gunner. One will move as stealthily as possible, the other will shoot ruthlessly from his machine gun without thinking twice. Just press the tab key and you'll seamlessly change from one to another.

Let's face it: controlling two characters is somewhat confusing, especially during your first moments in the game. But the good thing about it is that you can handle each mission in two different ways, according to what's better for the mission in itself – or simply to your personal liking. Eventually, this double perspective almost enables you to play two different games. Of course, the two-character gaming style makes a lot of sense when you play a co-op mission with a friend, but unfortunately I couldn't test that.

Another area where this game stands out is the fact that most of the surrounding scenarios are interactive, meaning you can destroy them with your weapons and also use them to attack your enemies. This point, together with highly realistic graphics and a fast-paced soundtrack, turns Conflict: Denied Ops into a fully immersive action adventure that's definitely worth a try.

Although having two characters may feel a bit confusing at the beginning, you'll soon appreciate the possibility of completing your missions in two possible ways, both equally challenging and fun.

Assault Heroes Demo - Drive, shoot and defeat enemy waves

Assault Heroes is an old fashioned vertical scrolling shooter loaded with frantic action and many exciting power-ups.

Now, don't get me wrong here: when I say old fashioned, I mean Assault Heroes follows a traditional arcade style both in story and gameplay. You're a member of an elite army team, entrusted with a very simple mission: wipe out the enemy. Just like those good ol' arcade games, you control a small vehicle from a top view perspective and move in vertical scroll while shooting just about anything that appears on the screen.

Being more of a casual game, the enemies in Assault Heroes don't have a very well developed AI and will attack you in uncontrolled waves rather than strategic ambushes. Also, the vehicle itself is a bit difficult to control during the first minutes of playtime, as it involves a strange combination of keyboard and mouse. On the upside, the wide variety of power-ups and a high level of detail make the game really attractive. Pity the demo only lets you test for half an hour.

Assault Game is an old-style shooter with vertical scroll, loads of power-ups, highly detailed graphics and unfortunately, a extremely short trial period.

Zombie Shooter - Can you take on the zombies?

Zombie Shooter is an action game based on a simple premise - mad scientists have unleashed zombies on the world and now you have to stop them.

The scientists created the zombies in a hidden laboratory and you are one of the few people who can save mankind from their mistake. The game is very similar to Gauntlet although there have been some changes. You are soldier armed to the teeth with weapons, mainly pistols, rifles and explosives but the basics are the same. As in Gauntlet however, the enemies do not have any kind of Artificial Intelligence, but they are constantly launched against you in a mass suicide pact.

The graphics are incredibly detailed although you'll need good eyesight because the top down view is very distant. You have 10 types of weapon and you can boost your character by improving the character’s skills along your way and allows you to upgrade available arms with the money earned. You can also practice your killing skills in two modes - survival and gun stand.

If you like the sim-city style graphics and have something against zombies, you'll enjoy this although it takes a long time to get anywhere so make sure you've got a few hours spare per session.

Synaesthete 1.0.1 - Rhythm and music combine in this original game

Synaesthete is a highly original game that mixes music and arcade action in the style of Dance Revolution.

The objective of the game is to basically eliminate all enemies in each room - or phase. To do so you must move your character around by hitting a sequence of musical notes whilst lasers fire at them. Therefore, the movements of your character are also dictated by the musical rhythm of the soundtrack. If you've played Dance Revolution or Guitar Hero, you'll know what I mean. If you haven't, then it works by making you push one of three keys in the right order to keep pace with the tracks. The better you do, the more your character avoids being struck down by a shot or laser beam. The graphics are 3D vector style and you have to guide your tiny character around the grids and across bridges which does get a bit boring. The 3D images are not exactly well crafted and in this respect, the developers could have done a much better job. However, for pure originality and pumping soundtracks, it's guaranteed to keep you buzzing for a while.

Synaesthete gets full marks for originality and if you're a Dance Revolution or Guitar Hero fan, you'll probably enjoy this a lot.

Kane and Lynch: Dead Men is one of those games you keep on hearing stuff about for months, so when you finally get your hands on the demo you can't wait to play it.

The new adventure from the creators of Hitman is certainly very original: it could be defined as a shooter with a movie twist. But is it really a film what we want here? While playing the demo I often got the sensation that I was watching an action movie more than actually playing a game... The game's weird perspective (a kind of mixture between first and third person perspective) made it hard for me to identify myself with my character and sometimes I didn't even know if it was me who was moving it around the screen.

I don't think this movie-like characteristic should be taken as something positive. The game features jaw-dropping graphics, that's true, but I missed having more gameplay. I wanted to feel part of the action and not just a mere spectator. I expected a truly immersive experience rather than spotless cinematic scenes. What's more, I found the character lacked some basic movements, such as the ability to slide left and right or simply being able to jump. Not to mention the weapon's tiny crosshairs that make aiming at enemies incredibly difficult.

In all, Kane and Lynch: Dead Men was a bit disappointing: excellent graphics and interesting plot, but it doesn't feel like a game.

Urban Terror Quake 3 Mod 4.1 - Mortal combat between terrorists and marines in Quake 3

Urban Terror brings a very welcome dose of 'realism' to the Quake 3 engine. Taking place in realistic, urban settings, the mod pits SWAT or marines against terrorists in a blur of hi-octane cordite-reeking action.

Featuring actual weapons (with recoil!) and more realistic environments, Urban Terror combines the best of Quake 3 Arena with what was, for me, a much more enjoyable setting. The speed of play is impressively fast and the graphics held up fairly well. The quality of the sound effects leaves something to be desired (every shot sounds exactly like the last, never mind who fired it) but I found that the music added a welcome theatricality to events.

The download includes a number of default maps including Abbey, which is the one you can see in our screenshots. On this particular map, newcomers and rusty oldies alike can try out their skills by adding bots to the game for a sort of single player mode. It's also worth noting that the game no longer requires Quake 3 Arena to be installed (see the requirements section below for details).

Urban Terror is one of the best Quake 3 Arena mods available - highly recommended.

Exteel 2.2.1.0 - Next-generation action: battles between robots

Free online games are getting more and more popular, which is great for game lovers like us... but also makes it harder to choose the one we want play.

One of the latest additions to this trend is called Exteel and is set in a futuristic environment with fast-paced, action-loaded battles. But there's one point where Exteel differs from other actions shooters, and this is the fact that battles are fought between robots. The game calls them mechanaughts and defines them as "walking war machines", which I must say after playing the game, it's quite an accurate description.

Once you install the game and create a free account in the game's official website, you're ready to play. Well, not yet: there's a brief tutorial we recommend to follow in order to learn the basics of movement and weaponry. After that, you're definitely ready to join the battle. Note that this is an online-only game, so expect to endure some waiting times while searching for the appropriate server, waiting for other players, letting people get everything ready and so on. Also, you may feel a bit lost at the beginning, when you don't know anybody in the game and all players seem to have far more experience than you. My advice here is to just give it a try and see how fun it can get.

Exteel features the traditional game modes you find in other action titles (Death-match, Team Death-match, Last Stand...). In any of them, you'll need to have really quick reflexes in order to kill your enemies and survive at the same time –at least you can respawn immediately after being massacred. Every battle earns you credits, which in turn enable you to buy new weapons, skills and other stuff to customize and empower your robot, I mean, your mechanaught.

Graphics in Exteel are really good, especially in the rendering of three-dimensional environments and the characters themselves. Background music adds the final touch, although unfortunately it goes unnoticed most of the time due to the firing roar that takes over battlegrounds.

Exteel lets you join online action-packed battles set in a futuristic environment at an unbeatable price. Definitely worth a try!

Timeshift Multiplayer Demo - Use time to kill the enemy

TimeShift is not the typical first-person shooter in which you have to kill anything that dares move on your screen. Okay, there's a lot of blood, but there's also one important element that I have never seen in any previous FPS before: time.

Yes, besides big machine guns and other powerful gadgets, time is by far the most important weapon in this game. You're given the ability to control time at your will: make it go slower, stop it or even make it go backwards. Controlling this ability will save your life more than once, so it's important to learn it properly. However, be ready to die a few times before you get the knack of it.

This demo includes some single player in which you play with a team of soldiers. You're assigned a series of objectives that involve exploring ruined scenarios and killing enemies. There are also multiplayer maps, where you play on your own according to the game mode set: all against all, capture the flag, team-based game, etc. In a way, this multiplayer mode reminds me of Unreal Tournament.

TimeShift features jaw-dropping graphics, especially in the rendering of environments. Images are beautifully distorted when your character controls time in order to create an impressive effect. You really feel like Hiro Nakamura!

Excellent first person shooter with loads of action and a very original weapon: time.

Kong 1.0.1 - Get up to some monkey business

Get ready for Kong, an action game which can be played in multiplayer mode or against computer controlled bots from a top-down perspective. There are no tanks and soldiers here - only orangutans armed to the teeth. Depending on the mode of play you choose (deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag), the goal is different, but the means are always the same - a lot of weapons. These are of different types, such as lasers, rocket launchers or machine guns that can can be enhanced with various "power ups" that are distributed across each level.

Each level is full of new and surprising obstacles and objects to make your life easier or more difficult depending on the scenario. Although I never got to experience it, I imagine that the multiplayer mode with friends across the internet would also be a hell of a lot of fun in this game. The developers have purposely gone for a "Cell-Shading" technique which gives the characters a cartoon look and feel. The sound effects, especially as regards the weapons, are particularly good giving the game an extra touch of class.

For great gameplay, graphics and sound this game can't be faulted for hours of monkey madness fun.

Crysis Demo - Futuristic action at its best

Crysis is a futuristic first-person-shooter that will immerse you into some action-packed missions in a remote island that has been invaded by an alien race. As a member of a highly qualified squadron, you'll take part in the US government plan to recover the island and wipe out those nasty aliens.

This demo gives a sneak peek of the game that enables you to get a very approximate idea of what the game looks like. It allows you to play a complete level that also works as tutorial to learn the basic movements and keyboard shortcuts. Graphics are simply stunning and the sound effects, like radio conversations, add another touch of realism. The game gets you quickly involved into the adventure, leading your way through several objectives and letting you taste different weapons, along with your character's abilities. These special skills, together with the high level of interactivity with the environment, make Crysis a very open game where every situation can be solved in several different ways.

Sometimes the environment is too dark and you'll hardly see anything, but fortunately you can turn night vision on to make things a bit clearer. Also, you'll need some patience before actually starting to play, as it's highly recommended to watch the cinematic intro and get a glimpse of the whole story – that is, as long as your computer meets the high hardware requirements.

Crysis is a must-have for all FPS lovers: varied missions, lots of action and a very attractive story that each player can enjoy in their own way.

Legends 0.4.1.43 - Multiplayer action game set in the future

Have you ever wanted to fly around in a jetpack and blow-up people? That's exactly what Legends offers as you join a futuristic army hell bent on destruction. Best of all, you can team up with people from across the net which makes for some truly thrilling and pulsating missions.
Team sizes are ideal between 10 and 15 on each side and the network has been optimised for even players on 56K modems to play relatively smoothly.

The game types vary from the classic Capture the Flag, Deathmatch and Duel to out-and-out war. The great thing about this game is the number of customization possibilities. Mission creation is very easy and there's a fully-featured editor integrated into the game engine itself. Skins, models, and effects can all be modified with commonly available tools. The game also has an Autodownload feature which means you never have to leave the game to join new user created Client-Side and Server-Side missions. You can even record your best kills to enjoy later over a few beers.

This is a fantastic multiplayer game and if only the graphics were a bit more detailed, it would score more highly but in terms of gameplay, it's 5.star.
