Halo: Combat Evolved-Classic demo of the iconic first Halo game

http://halo.en.softonic.com

Halo: Combat Evolved, the first game in the massively successful Halo series, was one of only two to be released on PC,and despite its age it continues to be popular today.

Halo: Combat Evolved is a sci-fi first person shooter, featuring an epic solo campaign and fast and furious online multiplayer. While it dates from 2001, Halo: Combat Evolved looks surprisingly good. It won't trouble the high definition games of today, but the art style suited the technology available a decade ago.

The single player demo gives you a good feel for the dynamic combat in the main campaign, but its the free Halo: Combat Evolved online multiplayer demo that probably keeps players coming back after so many years. Controls will be familiar to anyone who has played an FPS, so it's easy to pick up, and the game modes are easy to understand.

There is just one map to play on multiplayer in this demo, but it's fun to play in, and you can always find rooms with players to join. With the varied weapons and vehicles, that Halo will run smoothly on almost any of today's PCs is just the icing on the cake!

Halo: Combat Evolved is a classic shooter, and this demo is an excellent source of free online multiplayer fun.

Download Halo: Combat Evolved in Softonic

Originally launched as a toy collection, Transformers soon arrived to television as an animated series that fascinated children all over the world.

Now these peculiar robots are back to fight for the Earth in a cinema near you.
This game enables you to take a more active part in the Transformers story, rather than just watching them moving on the screen.

You'll be able to control Bumblebee (your only option in the demo) and make your way through the city in search of enemy robots.
Transformers has very good graphics but unfortunately we cannot say the same about controls: mobility and aiming are difficult to get used to, especially when you're car-shaped.

Download Transformers The Game Demo in Softonic

Serious Sam-An action packed shoot-em-up

http://serious-sam.en.softonic.com

Serious Sam is a first person shooter for Windows PCs.

If you're a fan of games like Quake or Doom, you're going to love the Serious Sam games.

Serious Sam puts you in the shoes of Sam "Serious" Stone, the well-muscled protagonist who seems bent on ridding his world of an alien force headed by the overlord Mental whose primary aim is humanity's total annihilation. With sprawling outdoor areas just crawling with enemies and challenging bosses, Serious Sam will definitely keep you on your toes.

In addition, the game has some seriously bizarre weapons you can choose to fight with, making things even more interesting. If third person shooters aren't your thing, Serious Sam also has a first person shooter option, which is nice.

Hardcore gamers will note that the graphics aren't the best in this original version of the Serious Sam series. They're still a lot better that some of the earlier shooter games for PCs and the relentless action usually makes up for complaints related to game appearance though.

Serious Sam is an intense third person shooter game that fans of Doom and Quake will undoubtedly enjoy.

Download Serious Sam in Softonic

http://crysis-2-be-the-weapon.en.softonic.com

Crysis 2: Be The Weapon is a first-person shooter coming this spring. Set in an alien ravaged New York. Like the original game, it promises to be technically superb, while giving players a choice in how they play the game.

As you can see in the trailers, the New York of Crysis 2 is being wrecked by invading aliens, the Ceph. Your character wears the 'Nanosuit 2.0', which gives you incredible powers, making you a human weapon. There's an invisibility cloak, for Predator-style stealthy play, and a tank mode offering more aggressive and action-packed gameplay.

As well as the single player campaign, with its drama and impressive set pieces, there is a fleshed out multiplayer mode too. With six game modes, and allowing players a range of Nanosuit configurations and upgrades, Crysis 2 promises really exciting and interestingly balanced matches in twelve absolutely stunning environments.

Utilizing the developer's own CryEngine 3, Crysis 2 looks incredible, with beautifully detailed graphics and impressively destructible worlds. PC users will need pretty good specs to run the game smoothly, which is not surprising as even the three year old original still boasts some heavyweight requirements.

Crysis 2 promises to be one of the most impressive first person shooters we've ever seen.

Download Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo in Softonic

Quake 4 Multiplayer 1.4.2-The fourth episode of the classic Quake game

http://quake.en.softonic.com

This multiplayer version of Quake features all the qualities you expect from such a classic - violence and frenetic action. Quake 4 picks up where Quake 2 left off, with the Space Marines fighting the Strogg, this time on the enemy's home planet, Stroggos. Your job as Corporal Kane is to eliminate the Borgs. The general pattern is that you crash land in the middle of a war and destroy key locations and infiltrate deep behind enemy lines.

You can be accompanied by game-controlled team members which are often medical or technical officers. They'll either pick you up when you're injured or sometimes pave the way ahead. The main thing lacking for most Quake fans is a vehicle-based mode plus the option to see the weapon mods available. However, if you're a dedicated Quake fan, you'll find this latest installment lacks little of the original and will keep you gripped for hours.

Download Quake 4 Multiplayer 1.4.2 in Softonic

Serious Sam 3: BFE-Intense old-school first person action is back!

http://serious-sam-3-bfe.en.softonic.com

Big, stupid and totally over the top, Serious Sam 3: BFE is a great way to enjoy the old run and gun style of 3D shoot 'em ups from the pre-<taglink type="program" country="en" id="30125">Halo</taglink> years. Overwhelming hordes of monsters to kill, using old school pack peddling, strafing and well timed melee hits. It's back to the 90s, but in glorious HD.

How is Serious Sam 3: BFE different?

For ten years, we have got used to FPS games where using cover is essential. Find cover, kill enemies, find next cover, shoot more enemies. Halo is credited with starting this trend, and today's biggest shooters like <taglink type="program" country="en" id="329877">Modern Warfare 3</taglink> still adhere to it.
In Serious Sam 3: BFE, you basically don't use cover. There is lots of space for much of the game, and you will have to use to dodge attacks and enemies. Sam will often be overrun by huge waves of monsters; instead of hiding behind a rock to pick them off, you'll have to strafe and backpedal while taking out the gruesome bad guys. It's unsubtle, and can be very tough going.

A challenge to get into

Serious Sam 3: BFE starts off a little slow in our opinion. Once you have progressed enough to have an impressive arsenal at your disposal, the over the top explosive fun really impresses. However, starting out is challenging, you'll find ammo lacking and health far to easy to lose!

Multiplayer

On PC, there are excellent multiplayer modes. Survival mode, which lets up to 16 players play cooperatively against ever increasing odds is especially fun. There is also up to four player split-screen mode.

Conclusion

Serious Sam 3: BFE saves the planet in jeans and t-shirt, while carrying as many weapons as you need. It's not about realism, but about fun. The old school action is refreshing, but there are a few areas where it could have been modernized, and the difficulty settings could be more subtle.

Download Serious Sam 3: BFE in Softonic

Aliens vs. Predator Demo 1.1-Who will win the battle of the baddies?

http://aliens-vs-predator.en.softonic.com

Aliens Vs Predator is an updated version of the classic 1999 horror shooter, bringing the violent terror up to date with todays powerful PCs.

The full game will feature the three-part single player campaign, where you can play as an Alien, Predator or a human Marine. This demo allows you to try a multiplayer game - deathmatch - with seven other players online. You can choose your species, though there's only one game type and one map. Deathmatch isn't really the best game mode for Aliens Vs Predator, as having everyone against everyone means death comes too quickly for newcomers!

The first game was tense and scary - Aliens Vs Predator in the 21st century is no different. It's dark, atmospheric and extremely gory. Controls are typical for a first person shooter, so it's easy to pick up. With the graphics settings high, it will need a powerful PC to run smoothly, but it looks good on low texture too.

The sound is great, really making you feel tense. It's not a comfortable experience, so if you're easily scared, keep clear of this! It's also worth mentioning that this is a pretty gruesome game, and definitely not for kids.

This demo is quire limited, but give you a good feel for the tension and horror of the full release.

Download Aliens vs. Predator Demo 1.1 in Softonic

Tribes: Ascend Free to Play-Excellent fast paced multiplayer shooter

http://tribes-ascend.en.softonic.com

Tribes: Ascend is a free to play online multiplayer FPS. With a Sci-fi setting, it adds jet-packs and skis to make a game which is incredibly fast and a real buzz to play.

Moving in Tribes: Ascend is the first thing you have to get used to. In addition to normal FPS controls, holding Space will activate skis, so you'll slide over terrain, where as the right mouse button activates your jet pack. Using both together and the hills, you can move around maps at incredible speed, and it's loads of fun.

The result of this speed means you'll be shooting at fast moving opponents, and sometimes the feel approaches aerial combat! So, Tribes: Ascend is not your serious army shooter, rather a fast paced arcade game relying on your fast reactions to hit opponents.

The two game modes are classic death match and capture the flag. The latter is the most fun - the speed of Tribes: Ascend makes this very different to normal FPS games. Players will swoop through enemy bases, picking up the flag and disappearing in moments. As everyone can fly for a time, finding a good spot to camp out and snipe from is a short lived experience.

While Tribes: Ascend is certainly different, the tight gameplay is reminiscent of <taglink type="program" country="en" id="46834">Quake</taglink> or <taglink type="program" country="en" id="59253">Counter-Strike</taglink>. It's addictive and fun from the start, but learning the subtleties and tactics necessary to win takes time.

Download Tribes: Ascend Free to Play in Softonic

Unreal Tournament 3 Demo-The quintessential FPS is back

http://unreal-tournament.en.softonic.com

Unreal Tournament is one of the most popular FPS series in the world. Thousands of players around the globe have kept this multiplayer online game alive during all these years since it was first released in 1999.
Now it's time to give them more action, more weapons and more fun with the new title of the series, Unreal Tournament 3.
First of all, bear in mind that this is a beta demo, so it may be a little buggy.
In fact it crashed a couple of times during our tests, but you know, we enjoyed it just the same. It was simply awesome to have that Unreal Tournament feeling back again: a dark, sordid, futuristic scenario; a military-style soundtrack; a wide range of weapons to choose from; and, of course, lots of non-stop frantic action both in local games against bots -with variable AI level- and in online matches against other human players.

The Unreal Tournament demo requires you to create a profile, which barely takes 30 seconds. After that, you'll be able to taste all the goodies brought by this new Unreal.
Although scarce in maps, the demo allows you to play different game modes and even online multiplayer games, including a Capture-the-Flag map where you can drive different vehicles.
However, you'll have to learn how to control them on the way, as there's no help available but a few on-screen tips.
In short, Unreal Tournament's return is great.
This demo is so enjoyable that it really leaves you longing for more. But in any case it's a great way to train before the complete game hits shelves.

Unreal Tournament 3 offers the same gameplay, action and fun of previous titles: the amazing game experience that UT fans have been waiting for!

Download Unreal Tournament 3 Demo in Softonic

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars-Join the battle against the Strogg invasion

http://enemy-territory-quake-wars.en.softonic.com

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars could be best described as a first person shooter with some strategic and role playing elements that spice up the whole mixture and produce an exciting, action-packed war adventure.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is set during the first years of the Strogg invasion on Earth. Your mission consists on fighting them back with a team of highly qualified soldiers. You can choose among different classes, each one of them having different abilities and weapons. The perfect Enemy Territory: Quake Wars team will have different members that can cover diverse needs, such as an engineer for building bridges to reach an enemy objective or a medic to take care of wounded soldiers. The better coordination the team has, the more successful they'll be. No place for solo bravado here.

At the beginning of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars you feel somewhat confused: too much information to absorb in too short a time before the fight begins. But a series of useful tips on top of the screen help you get started, and once you join your team you'll feel like one more member, willing to accomplish your objectives and beat those Stroggs up.

The sense of realism achieved in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is simply jaw-dropping. Landscapes, sound, movement, everything is dedicated to bring the most realistic experience possible. I especially enjoyed the possibility to ride any vehicle you find, although that made me realize I may need some lessons before piloting a helicopter.

In any case, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a must-have for FPS lovers who look for something else than just endless shoot-out.

Download Enemy Territory: Quake Wars in Softonic

Halo: Hell on Earth Trilogy-Rescue the Masterchief in this 2D Halo recreation

http://halo-hell-on-earth-trilogy.en.softonic.com

The original Halo game sparked a revolution in first-person shooters and is perhaps the main reason the XBox has shifted so many copies. This peculiar version is not a new installment of the game but more a 2D conversion of the previous three. Thankfully it includes the same weapons, same enemies, and an enormous amount of levels to negotiate.

Hell on Earth Trilogy certainly presents a large enough challenge to keep you coming back for more for some time. Compared to the originals, however, the 2D action is far less emmersive and you don't get the same fear factor as turning a dark corner to be welcomed by a room full of flesh-eating aliens in this side-scrolling affair. Nevertheless this game is free and enjoyable in its own right.

Download Halo: Hell on Earth Trilogy in Softonic

Halo Zero 1.8.6.3 Final-Free, multiplayer, 2D version of Halo

http://halo-zero.en.softonic.com

Halo Zero is a fan made 2D tribute to the hugely popular Xbox series. Take control once again of Master Chief and battle against the Covenant invaders.

If the generic sci-fi story of the original Halo games was obscured by their ambition and scale compared to older shooters, it certainly isn't in a 2D 16-bit era landscape. You control the suited space marine, and shoot your way through a variety of forgettable alien onslaughts.

The graphics, as mentioned, are very 1990s, and although they have clearly been created with some care they seem uninspired. Control is via the keyboard and mouse, aiming and firing with the mouse, and movement and other things with the keyboard. It's quite a good system, and you can configure the keys as you like, which is useful.

Gameplay itself is a mixed bag. The sound effects are excellent, with great weapon effects, but the combat is untidy - you can't always see alien gunfire which makes avoiding it awkward!

Halo may have been a landmark 3D game, but Halo Zero does not make the same impact in the world of 2D platform shooters. It's probably one for hardcore Halo fans only.

Download Halo Zero 1.8.6.3 Final in Softonic

Binary Domain-Stop robots taking over in this futuristic shooter

http://binary-domain.en.softonic.com

Binary Domain is a squad based shooter - a futuristic action game that takes place in the Tokyo of 2080. Humanoid robots have been created that believe they are human, and they have now infiltrated humanity, and must be stopped.

What this means is a cover based third person shooter set in robot infested Tokyo. Binary Domain is frustrating because while it gets some things very right, parts of the game are incredibly irritating an spoil the experience.

The basic gameplay feels quite good. Binary Domain has a satisfying arcade feel to it, and the movement of your character and the weaponry is excellent. When you're fighting a wave of oncoming robots, it can be easy to forget the flaws of the game, as the shooting is good, and the enemies react well to being shot. Shoot a robot's legs and it will drag itself toward you, for example. The robots make fun enemies!

Your teammates are what really spoil Binary Domain. Their speach, while well acted, is often nonsensical, and they often get in your line of sight. Unlike in Mass Effect 3, where a teammate will move if you want their cover, in Binary Domain you will just have to go somewhere else. If you have a microphone, there are voice commands, but this doesn't work great and feels like a gimmick.

The environment and robots look great - boss robots are especially impressive. It's a shame that the game flows so badly - the artificial intelligence of your teammates just isn't acceptable for a squad based game in 2012.

Buried here is a good game that plays like it has been released far too soon.

Download Binary Domain in Softonic
