Free Language Translator 1.9.4-Desktop instant translations powered by Google

http://free-language-translator.en.softonic.com

I don't know about you, but I need to use dictionaries and translators almost on a daily basis. And in cases like these, a tool like Free Language Translator is a real time saver!

Free Language Translator is a useful translating utility powered by Google Translate which enables you to translate texts between more than 40 different languages – just as many as the Google service supports. It has some nice features such as automatic source language detection, accuracy calculator and even the option to create a personal dictionary with corrected, improved translations.

Using Free Language Translator is really easy. All you have to do is enter the source text on the left-side pane (you can type it in, copy it from the clipboard or drag a drop a document onto the program's interface) and click the Translate button. After a few seconds – provided you're online, of course - you'll get the translation on the right-side pane. You can then copy it back to the clipboard or save it to TXT.

Free Language Translator includes a few personalization options, like the possibility to select a custom text font and pick another keyboard layout when translating to languages that use different keyboards.

Free Language Translator is a powerful handy translator that uses Google Translate to provide you with instant translations right on your desktop.

Download Free Language Translator 1.9.4 in Softonic

http://google-translate-client.en.softonic.com

Google Translate Client is a desktop translation tool that makes use of the powerful Google engine to provide you with instant translations. It’s perfect for web pages – or any other documents - written in other languages that you find when searching the web.

Google Translate Client supports more than 50 different languages, just like the original Google Translate web app. It is set to auto-detect the language your text is in, but you can also enter the settings options and select the language for yourself.

In fact, Google Translate Client’s preferences menu is very complete, allowing you to specify a range of actions from Proxy Settings to the appearance of the main interface. You can also select the action that triggers translation (click the icon, left click, or just select the text), making translation even quicker.

That said, Google Translate Client is easy to use, and the features that are accessible from the main interface are pretty complete, meaning you don’t have to tackle the preferences unless you want to. Google Translate Client’s a pretty slick app, and makes it very easy to use the text you have translated.

Google Translate Client is basically a desktop interpretation of the famous translation app, but it’s a nice app with some very slick features.

Download Google Translate Client 5.1.545 in Softonic

Lingoes 2.7.6.1-Easy dictionary and translator for more than 60 languages

http://lingoes.en.softonic.com

On the whole, Lingoes is an interesting application which combines a comprehensive dictionary with a translator service (while looking and feeling mysteriously similar to its competitor, Babylon). There are also some useful tools like the periodic table, an abbreviation chart and an irregular verbs one, plus an international time zone converter, a dialing codes directory, a weights & measures converter and to end a currency converter.

Theoretically the most useful tool is that by pressing CTRL+ right click on whatever word you have on your screen, a pop-up window should appear with the definition of that word, a search tool for a deeper definition and also an audio file with the correct pronunciation. The disappointing aspect of this feature is that it doesn't work with a lot of words (unfortunately, I have to say, the majority), even if they appear in the list of definitions that Lingoes has in its database. I think this is a major bug as it invalidates massively the application's main utility which would be to have an always-available dictionary without having to change window.

The program leans on Google for the translation function which I find to be weak as many words are not translated correctly or not even found.

Because of strange performance issues, Lingoes is not worth using if you're just looking for an on-the-fly dictionary or translator. Some of its other features are really useful, though.

Download Lingoes 2.7.6.1 in Softonic

http://business-translator.en.softonic.com

As a worldwide network, you can find many different languages on the Web, but you may not speak all of them. In this case, you better count on Business Translator.

With Business Translator you'll be able to translate selected text strings – no matter how long - and complete websites as well. The way the program translates web content in fact is very interesting: it loads the selected website on its own built-in browser and displays it in the target language, although keeping the same design.

Being an automated translating machine, you shouldn't expect perfect results in Business Translator. But in any case you'll be able to get a rough idea of what any foreign text is about.

Business Translator features a simple interface with a few customization options, plus some other tools such as the possibility to print or save the translated text right away. The program also includes what it seems to be a fairly complete dictionary. And I say "seems to be" because it was so painfully slow I didn't have enough patience to wait for the definition I was looking up.

Business Translator puts an end to language barriers by providing you with a handy translating application.

Download Business Translator 9.02 in Softonic

http://gtranslate.en.softonic.com

Today's society works at a global level, and that usually requires the ability to speak at least one foreign language besides your mother tongue.

But if you never managed to learn the German declension system or the Spanish verbs, don't worry. Now you can rely on gTranslate to grasp the general meaning of any online document you come across while browsing the web.

This extension enables you to translate any word on any webpage to the language of your selection, provided it's supported by the Google translation services which are the ones used by gTranslate.

The extension sets the right language combination automatically, according to your browser's language and the website you're visiting, but you can change it if you like.

Also, though I thought it would only work with singles words, I was pleased to see it could translate short snippets of text as well.
On the downside, the translation sometimes takes a while to appear, or doesn't appear at all.

In any case, always use automatic translation with care: they can help you understand the overall meaning but they usually fail in grammar and syntax.

With this extension you can translate words and text snippets on any webpage, always bearing in mind that automatic translations are far from perfect.

Download gTranslate 0.8 in Softonic

Lingoes Portable 2.7.6.1-Free online dictionary and translator for eighty languages

http://lingoes-portable.en.softonic.com

English is the most widely used language on the Web, but it's definitely not the only one. If foreign languages are not your cup of tea, Portable Lingoes can lend you a hand.

This little portable version of desktop Lingoes looks very promising: support for eighty languages, pronunciation of words, automatic translation and/or definition of selected words in documents or web pages are some of its most outstanding features.

However there are a few issues that let it down a bit. To begin with, the interface in Portable Lingoes is not exactly the paradigm of ease of use; the confusing design takes a while to get used to. Also, you can't help feeling a bit disappointed when you realize most dictionaries must be downloaded separately – well, at least they're free.

Once you get over these flaws, Portable Lingoes is a really handy tool, especially for those who frequently work with different languages. The program includes an extensive configuration menu and offers immediate results both in dictionary look-ups and translation tasks, which are powered by Google Translator.

Despite an initially confusing interface and the fact that you have to download dictionaries separately, Portable Lingoes is still a nice, handy online dictionary and translation tool.

Download Lingoes Portable 2.7.6.1 in Softonic

http://multitranse.en.softonic.com

Automatic translators sometimes are real life-saviors, as they help us understand any text, no matter what language it's written in.

Multitranse is one of those translating applications, and one of the most completes I've seen – in terms of supported languages. Multitranse supports a total of twenty languages that you can freely combine with each other as source or target languages.

The first time you run the program you're presented with a short tutorial that shows you how easy is to use Multitranse. Then the only thing you have to do is writing the source text (or copying it from another app), selecting both the source and target languages and you're good to go.

However there's a bid downside to Multitranse and that is precisely translations themselves. I know automatic translators are far from good, but I've seen much better translations than these ones – and they're also generated by automatic apps.

Multitranse can be helpful when you need to understand the general meaning of a text written in a foreign language, but you shouldn't trust it much.

Download MultiTranse 6.3 in Softonic

http://web-translator.en.softonic.com

Online translation tools have come a long way since the days when they could only translate a few words and very badly at that.

Nowadays, using the Internet, translation tools have improved immeasurably converting huge amounts of text into understandable versions in another language (depending on what language we're talking about of course). Web Translator is a fully featured online translation tool that helps you translate web pages, web sites, as well as words, sentences and documents into another language.

The languages currently supported by Web Translator are English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Korean and Japanese. It can translate from a diverse range of applications including Microsoft Word, Notepad, WordPad, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook Express, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Frontpage and more. The user interface bizarrely though is only available in a few languages - English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian and Japanese.

The interface is very rudimentary and in this test version, you can only translate short amounts of text but it's enough to give you an idea of accuracy. The problem is that it doesn't really deliver results that are better than free solutions such as Google's online translator in which case, it's probably not worth paying almost $40 for the full version.

If your language is not supported by other online translators then give Web Translator a go, otherwise you might find other free solutions do just as good a job.

Download Web Translator 8.22 in Softonic

http://promt-translation-agent.en.softonic.com

Though there are a few online translation services, some people still prefer to have a desktop-based translation tool like Promt Translation Agent.

Promt Translation Agent, is an easy-to-use translator with support for several different combinations between seven languages: English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Russian. The program also lets you choose which kind of text you're translating, so that it uses the appropriate vocabulary field.

Working with Promt Translation Agent is as simple as typing text – or copying and pasting it from another application – into the program's Office-like interface and clicking on the corresponding button. Translation will be done almost instantaneously.

On the downside, Promt Translation Agent does have some important drawbacks. To begin with, text length is limited to 200 characters, which is ridiculously short. Also, the translation servers were down a few times while trying to translate text. However, the program works fine as translator for single words.

With Promt Translation Agent you can do instant translations between seven different languages – as long as your text is short enough.

Download Promt Translation Agent 8.0.271 in Softonic

If you regularly have to translate from one language to another, then it's a pain to keep going online to find a translator which can handle the languages you need.

The big advantage of Translate.net is that it scans multiple translation sites for languages that you need to translate to and from. The good thing here is that you don't have to go online and tediously surf the net for translators and by using translators from different sources, you can much more accurate and better translations. The annoying thing however is that the program displays advertisements within the program based on the translation texts that you are searching on. However, the developers assure that Translate.Net does not collect any personal data or use any aggressive advertising techniques on it's users. One thing worth mentioning however is that this program is completely open source which means that the advertising feature may be possible to remove, or at least block, if you have some C++ programming knowledge.

A great solution for those that translate regularly although be prepared to be bombarded with adverts.

Download Translate.Net 0.1.3493.4408 in Softonic

Most automatic translation tools work as standalone apps, but in the case of IdiomaX Office Translator, these tools are embedded directly in Microsoft Office.

IdiomaX Office Translator shows up as one more toolbar on the interface of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Frontpage, Publisher and Visio. From this toolbar you can translate the whole document, or just selected text. In any case the translated text will be saved into another file. It's probably not the best idea in terms of usability, but at least it makes sure you never lose the original version.

IdiomaX Office Translator works with several types of dictionaries, each one of them specializing into a certain topic, and also supports a wide array of language pairs (English, Spanish, Italian, German, French) though the trial version only lets you test Spanish and English.

In that case you can use a traditional dictionary o take a faster detour by launching GoNaomi. This app works as a dictionary for 39 different languages and enables you to combine them all in search of the perfect translation. Each language contains about 1,000 entries.

GoNaomi includes popular languages as well as other ones which are not so common, like Tagalog, Ukrainian or Belorussian. You only have to select your source and target languages and enter the terms you're looking for.
