Sonic Games is a set of arcade games with the famous blue hedgehog as protagonist. From the main program's page you can select among 7 games listed in the game menu. The titles sound exciting: Sonic 3D Snowboarding, Sonic Character Designer, Sonic Lost in Mario World, Sonic Pacman, Sonic Tetris, Sonica and Ultimate Sonic.

The application lacks of basic functions, like pause, but at least the game's frame is resizable. The idea of a collection of Sonic games is really nice, but it's a pity that the playability is as good in the original MegaDrive version and that the graphics are so scarce. They would probably be still enjoyable on mobile devices, but on Windows, the experience ends up being pretty boring.

If you are a fan of Sonic, you might want to have this set of games for Windows, but mainly for collection purposes rather than to play with them as both graphics and playability are pretty poor.

Jardinains 2 is a fun and original twist on the block breaking genre that reminds me of something I might have played on my Atari 20 years ago.

It's slightly more advanced than Pong but not much! Basically, you have a paddle and a bouncing ball that require you to destroy a bunch of bricks. However, the twist is that inside the bricks are what are called "nairns". Nairns are basically little critters that are there to make your life hell. They throw things at your paddle and basically attempt to stop you from cracking open any of the remaining bricks. Your aim is to strike the nairns with your ball and knock them out of action. However, the fun doesn't stop there - you can bounce the little critters off your padel to destroy even more bricks so it's quite satisfying in a sadistic way. Using their bodies, you can clear a screen much faster although it's quite an ordeal trying to keep a ball and several critters flying up in the air for several minutes at a time. This demo version is only limited to a few levels and you are prompted to buy the game when you close it down. Whether you decide to buy or not depends on whether you can see much worth in bouncing critters against bricks for long. Personally, I got bored after a few minutes although if you've had a bad day at the office, it's a good way to get some agression out. Oh, and don't expect wonders in the graphics or sound deapartment - this is proudly an old skool style game.

An interesting take on the Pong genre although they needed to make it a bit more interesting to hold my attention.

PacXon is a fun game made out of an incredible mix of classic arcade games such as PacMan and QIX.

Your mission this time is not eating all the stars on your way, but filing empty space and capture ghosts by building wall. As soon as you fill 80% or more empty space you will go to the next level.

Luckily you can count on different power-ups in the shape of fruits. They will give you the possibility to run faster or freezing ghosts so that they cannot move.

According to the game story, the first Speedball league (founded in 2095) fails due to violence and corruption. As the organization gave place to anarchy, the game is forced underground, but five years later, from one attempt to regain public interest, Speedball 2 is born. Speedball 2 is one of Bitmap Brothers' most successful titles and was released for several platforms including the Amiga, CD 32, Acorn Archimedes, IBM-PC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, Master System, Game Boy and the Game Boy Advance. The first version was released in 1991, the final version ten years later.

Changes were made to the rules of the game, meaning that teams have 9 players on court rather than 6, and targets on the floor and walls can be hit for bonus points. The music, written by Simon Rogers and remixed and coded by Richard Joseph won the Golden Joystick award for best soundtrack.

There are dozens of Arkanoid clones around but this one delivers an original new take on the game by putting an Egyptian spin on it. Like all versions of Arkanoid the gameplay is very simple and it's a case of just blasting blocks by bouncing a ball off a paddle. Because ScaraBall is all set in 3D, however, the task is much more challenging than usual as you need to destroy blocks that are on top of each other.

The graphics within the game are excellent with all the backdrops and blocks being inspired by ancient Egypt. The three dimensional element to the game really works and the quality of the textures of the different blocks are impressive.

PureBreaker is a free, fun and certainly addictive Arkanoid remake featuring a handful of levels for you to beat. I must admit I didn't expect much from this game, but it has really surprised me with great graphics and pleasant background music and sound effects.

Gameplay is full of unexpected elements: special bonus, combos, tricks and many other hidden secrets you'll find for yourself as you progress through the game. There's even a level editor, so when you're finished with the ones that are included in the game you can create your own screens.

One thing I especially liked about PureBreaker is that you can jump directly to the last level you completed from the main menu. On the downside, game levels can get sometimes too difficult to complete, but I guess this is just a matter of practice!

PureBreaker makes you travel back in time just to realize that classic arcade games can still be fun and very challenging.

Little Bombers Returns is a game about adventures of little brave bombers, trapped in the dungeons of a mysterious castle. A way from the castle is very dangerous: to find exit from each level, your bombers will fight against evil creatures and eliminate brick walls that block their way. Every bomber has many little timer-bombs in his bottomless pockets, which he may install on a monster's way or to remove a brick out of the wall. As a bomb is installed, you must run very quickly from this site - bomb explosion can eliminate your character too! But don't be upset if you don't have enough time - your bomber has more then one life!
