EssentialPIM Free 2.71 - The powerfully simple Personal Information Manager

Managing personal information can be tricky not knowing whether to risk keeping it online or saving it offline where it could easily be lost or stolen.

EssentialPIM Free is an award-winning and free personal information manager which can be used on desktop or a USB drive. EssentialPIM can securely schedule your day, manage your contacts, keep track of your To Do plans and organize your notes. This is quite a lot for one program to do and some aspects are better than others. For example, the contacts list is pretty comprehensive allowing you to add more or less anything.

However, the EssentialPIM organizer is much more limited and doesn't offer much scope for adding and removing events or customizing them in certain ways. At the same time, it does make integration between your contacts and organizer much more effective than simply relying on two separate apps.

If you need an easy way of organizing your life and keeping track of various other personal appointments and details in one app, EssentialPIM is a very useful app.

OrganizeME is essentially a program that aims to be all things to all people, allowing you to create a database of contacts where you can store all manner of information about your friends and family, a calendar for programming alarms and reminders and a tool for opening files automatically.

Although not particularly advanced, the built-in email client is useful for sending out information from within the application. It's particualrly great for jotting down your thoughts in the text editor then sharing them with others without having to wade through multiple programs. Handily, OrganizeME places itself in the System Tray, meaning it's always on hand whenever you have an important note to take down or if you quickly want to send an email. What's more, the easy-to-configure alarm is great for reminding you of tasks or appointments throught the day.

Lantiv Timetabler is probably one of the most complete organizational tools you can find for your primary school, high school or any other type of education institution. The program saves all the necessary data (teachers, students, subjects, equipment, etc.) into a database and then uses it to elaborate timetables and detect any possible conflicts.

The application has so many options and displays so much information that the interface, despite its eye-catching design, sometimes seems too cluttered. You may also feel a bit confused with so much data!

Fortunately Lantiv Timetable includes interactive tutorials and a collection of tips to help you start using the program, as well as a sample school that gives you an idea about how it works.

A good organization is one of the keys to success in your student life, be it at high school, university or postgraduate studies. This is why qOrganizer can be really useful for you.

This personal information manager features all the tools you need to organize your work, some of which have been especially developed for students. You can enter your class schedule, jot down assignments or track your marks, to name a few.

The program's simple interface makes it easy to use, although I missed having some more format options in the note editor. Also, the calendar tool didn't highlight days with assigned tasks in any way, something that would make tasks easier to track. On the upside, I was surprised to see that qOrganizer supports FTP synchronizing and can save your data to an SQL database.

qOrganizer helps students manage their classes and assigned papers in a more efficient way.

ContactKeeper is a free personal information manager to store contact information about your friends, family, and colleges in one database file. You will never forget a birthday any more thanks to the integrated birthday reminder!

The pick of the bunch is the possibility to let ContactKeeper generate a birthday calender based on the dates of birth of the persons in the database!ContactKeeper is consciously very flexible, for example, only first name or last name is required, but not both, ContactKeeper is also consciously equipped with only a few basic fields, you can put extra information in the Note field.

You have also the freedom under wich format you want to save phone numbers of an address, for that reason the address is stored in one field only and the street name for example isn't seperated from the postal code and city name. ContactKeeper can be very usefull in case you lose your gsm with all the numbers of your friends for example, so you still have a back-up.

Total Organizer is a Personal Information Manager software that allows you to store all of your contacts, notes, and to-do lists. What's unique about the app is that everything is organized into categories (or 'folders') as a hierarchical tree and each item (be it a note, task, contact etc) may belong to several folders. This is known as 'tagging' and what's more, these tags may be hierarchical, meaning that Total Organizer refers to them as 'folders' and not 'tags'.

Organising contacts is an increasingly difficult task no matter who you are - if you add together all of the contacts on your mobile, e-mail and other external devices, it would probably be enough to go round the moon twice - or something like that.

Open Contacts is a brave attempt at trying to tie all these contacts together. The first thing that strikes you is that, it's not exactly the best looking program you've ever seen. It's more like an Excel spreadsheet with a few tasteless looking pink fields here and there. However, once you get working with it, you realise that it's not just an ugly face. The application has presets for various types of contact namely People and Companies. Both follow the same principle and the default layout gives you four fields within each one which you can move about. Each field expands into a whole page which allows you to enter just about everything from their eye colour to their favourite food if you so choose. In fact, few people will want or need to go into so much detail about their contacts but this is supposed to be a definitive kind of contacts book that you will refer to time and again although you get the feeling it's more like a police database at times. The program could have done with a few wizards to take you through the whole process a few times to begin with although the help file is extensive.

Open Contacts does help link and divide your contacts but it could do with a much better looking interface and a more simpler data fields for most people's needs.

Organising contacts is an increasingly difficult task no matter who you are - if you add together all of the contacts on your mobile, e-mail and other external devices, it would probably be enough to go round the moon twice - or something like that.

Open Contacts Portable is portable version of Open Contacts which is a brave attempt at trying to tie all these contacts together. Of course, if you're on the move a lot and making contacts all the time, then this version is much more suitable because it fits neatly on a Pendrive. The first thing that strikes with Open Contacts is that it's not exactly the best looking program you've ever seen. Each field expands into a whole page which allows you to enter more details although the portable version is more limited than the original which is no bad thing. Few people will want or need to go into so much detail about their contacts as the original allows and so I'd rather use this version anyway. Although it's simpler to use as a result, the program could still have done with a few wizards to take you through the whole process a few times to begin with although the help file is extensive.

Open Contacts does help link and divide your contacts but it could do with a much better looking interface although the simpler data fields in this portable version are actually an improvement on the original.

Student Life 3.0.4 - Organize your time at college

Getting ready to spend the next four years of your life at college? Being a student is not just about frat parties, beer chugging contests, and eating cold pizzas. Well, actually it really is, but if you plan on keeping your head above water with your courses you’ll have to properly organize your timetable.

Student Life is a personal organizer aimed at keeping your agenda tidy. Create your weekly schedule by entering information for your classes such as hours, study group and instructor. You can also specify what degree you’ll be studying and what grades you aim for. Keep track of your academic results by entering them in the homework and tests section. It won’t give you better grades, but at least you’ll see clearly how well (or badly) you’re doing. All the essential information for the day is kept on the main page. Select a class to see your schedule for the day and check the important reminders of things to do.

If you’ve already got a heavy schedule in college, what with your social life, part time job and other extra activities, you can insert that into Student Life too. It will all appear on the appropriate date in the in-built calendar.

Honestly, if your Student Life is as exciting as this program’s interface, you’re in for four dull years. The windows are often cluttered and adding simple information like your degree is hindered by the positioning of buttons and entries. There are multiple “add” buttons and you’re puzzled as to which one actually adds your new entry. I’ve also had the program crash on me quite a few times when adding a new task.

Student Life is not a powerful, full-scale personal organizer. It does the job, but nothing more. If you’re looking for something more professional go for WinOrganizer or Essential PIM.

WinOrganizer is a full-scale personal information manager (PIM) that helps you organize and plan your business and personal life. It's a planner, notepad and address book combined in one powerful application.

The computer version of the organizer comprises all features of its paper prototype in a more comfortable way, which makes working with it quicker and easier. Its user-friendly interface combines all your notes, bookmarks, holidays, reminders, appointments, tasks, contacts, and passwords into a coherent tree outline that can be customized as required.

The data can be protected by password to limit the access to your personal information. Now you won't miss a single holiday or your friend's birthday; you will be able to track everyday tasks and, what's more, the program will notify you about all of the upcoming events and tasks in your list.

MSD Tasks Multiuser is a graphics work planner that allows you to visually schedule work tasks. The difference between this and the standard MSD Tasks program is that this version allows several users to share information in a local area network with user access control. It's great for bosses, managers and staff that need to collaborate, organise a rota or working schedule. The program can be used as an electronic appointment calendar, administer customer contacts or help project manager when organizing the activities of a team.

The developers assure that security is guaranteed as all data can be protected and encrypted by password. You can assign it to automatically manage work order numbers and print work order reports. All the records in the program can contain an unlimited history meaning you need never lose another rota or shift pattern.

The software is basically based on two concepts - the working groups on one hand and their tasks on the other hand. It does not however play a role as to whether a team works together on a project or individual coworkers separate tasks. The progress of individual projects can be pursued in detail and so in a glance, you can see how well a team is doing. All data is presented in graphical form and to leave despite innumerable factors clearly to present itself.

MSD Tasks Multiuser is a great tool for those that have to manage sizable teams or want to find a better way of tracking employee progress.

LS Addressbook 1.0.0 - Contacts agenda that can be exported in TXT and CSV format

Keeping track of friends and family names and addresses is always tricky and I've never come across an app that really integrates well with my online activities. As far as offline apps fgo however, LS Addressbook does a good job of organizing your contacts in a compact and simple agenda. It has fields for the name, telephone number, address, e-mail and notes, etc.

There are many more options than you'll find in an agenda of a modern mobile phone, but the interesting thing is the export options. It supports TXT formats and XLS so you can export the data for simple backups at anytime or for printing. You can also import data from MS Access if you use it for contacts.

Simple and comprehensive with some useful export options, this is a solid contacts organiser.
