The game doesn't require installation and starts a game right away after being launched. This can be a bit confusing because apparently there is no game menu or any way to change configuration settings. The trick is pressing the Esc key: you'll open the menu and will have access to the game's settings, where you'll be able to choose the type of pool (8-ball, 9-ball, carom or snooker), game mode (single game, tournament or championship), players (either human or computer-controlled) or decide if you want to play a game over the Internet.

FooBillard shows highly realistic physics in the ball's movements and in their reactions when hitting other balls or against the pool table. Despite the game's minimalist design (you only see the table against a dark background) the graphics are certainly impressive. Pity we can't say the same about the soundtrack, which is limited to some noises when the ball hits against something.

Pool Rebel is a small pool game that lets you play several varieties of pool: 8-ball US, 8-ball UK, 9-ball, 14.1 and one pocket. I'm not into the pool world that much, but I still think this is a decent choice of pool games. Plus, you can choose to play against the computer, another friend on the same PC or someone else around the globe on an online game.

Pool Rebel features decent graphics, but they're not the most best ones I've seen in a pool game. The incredibly small interface – which, oddly enough, can't be resized – doesn't help either. Sounds are quite realistic though, and add to the game.

As for gameplay, I'd strongly advise you to use the mouse and click the on-screen controls, as keyboard controls are very confusing. Even after customizing key combinations, I found the game easier to control with the mouse. Bear in mind you can tweak angle, power and the point where your cue will touch the ball in order to get perfect shots!

The controls are simple - since everything is controlled by the mouse, in two simple clicks you can define the direction that you want the ball to travel in including the power with which you want to strike it. If you're not sure where the ball will end up, the game includes a direction finder system that shows you the eventual path of the ball.

You can play 6 Ball, 9 Ball, US 8 Ball, UK Pool, Crazy Pool and Trick Shots. There are also seven different tables to play on all with slightly different playing characteristics. The balls act pretty realistically jumping, swerving and spinning over the table at times. The soundtrack is as colourful as the game itself - the developers call it the super flutey Amju soundtrack!

All in all, a great pool game for kids although too easy and too colourful for serious online pool players.
