Tron Racing 1.1.1-Futuristic racing shoot-em-up game

http://tron-racing.en.softonic.com/java

Tron Racing is a futuristic racing shooter that transports you into the neon world of the movie Tron Legacy.

The idea of Tron Racing is based around the light cycle motorbikes from the movie. The game thrusts you into the Grid to battle Recognizers.

Unusually, Tron Racing scrolls from right to left, rather than the traditional left-to-right approach in side-scrolling shooters. You must throw your identity disc in order to kill enemies, while avoiding anything they fire at you. Along the way, you must collect items to progress through the four levels, and pick up power-ups to improve your weaponry and defenses.

The graphics in Tron Racing are pretty good and manage to recreate the style of the Tron Legacy movie. You use the directional buttons or 6 and 4 keys to move up and down to dodge, while pressing the center button or 5 key to fire.

Tron Racing is quite fun to play, but unfortunately it's over too quickly, since there are only four levels in the game.

Download Tron Racing 1.1.1 in Softonic

N.O.V.A. 3-Intense action in this epic sci-fi shooter

http://n-o-v-a-3.en.softonic.com/iphone

Like its predecessors, N.O.V.A. 3 is a true first-person shooter for iOS that looks sensational and plays very well.

In N.O.V.A. 3 you lead hero Kal around space stations and surrounding planets in order to try to stop Earth from a terrible fate. N.O.V.A. games have often been mocked as a cheap rip-off of Halo, but to say that about N.O.V.A. 3 is doing it a massive disservice. It now stands on its own as the reference for quality shooters on iOS.

The graphics are crisp and realistic, aside from a rare few glitches where you fall through environments. The voice over acting is of good quality, and even the story has been carefully constructed to add tension to the gameplay. Previous versions have centered just on other planets, whereas N.O.V.A. 3 has lots of scenes on Earth, which adds a new dimension to the gameplay.

There's plenty of alien scum too wipe out in N.O.V.A. 3, but luckily you'll be able to call on plenty of weapons, kinetic forces, and the help of your team to destroy them. Controls are as natural as they can be on an iOS device, and can be customized to the hilt. The default control is based around moving with your thumb and aiming and shooting with your right one. There are separate buttons for changing weapons, throwing grenades, using kinetic attacks, etc.

Besides the Campaign mode, N.O.V.A. 3 also features online multiplayer, where you and up-to 11 others can take part in battles in six different modes. It's good fun - but only if you're pretty handy with a blaster, since online opponents are generally top class.

With superb graphics, exciting gameplay and a compelling storyline, N.O.V.A. 3 has everything you could wish for in an iOS sci-fi shooter.

Download N.O.V.A. 3 in Softonic

The gameplay in Special Police Down of Terrorism is fast-paced, and you have to empty the magazine of your gun many times to bring down terrorists.

Graphics look like first generation polygons and you should not expect to be impressed. The view in Special Police Down of Terrorism is fixed with only the sight visible on screen. Enemies will appear on screen, and at the same time innocents will try to escape so you have to defeat the terrorists without harming the civilians.

Even with multiple environments, the game is repetitive and feels very simple.

Special Police Down of Terrorism is average, but free to play.

Download Special Police Down of Terrorism 1.0.0 in Softonic

Frontline Commando is a third person shooter that sends players right into battle.

Using familiar popular gameplay mechanics like destructible cover, high-powered weapons, and 3D graphics, Frontline Commando is an impressive shooter for mobile devices.

Presented as a one-man army, Frontline Commando offers an experience very close to home consoles. The high quality graphics are impressive, containing smooth animations and outstanding effects. The game is like an action movie where players are given weapons and assigned missions to get revenge.

Even with a lot of action on the screen, Frontline Commando does not suffer lag or glitches and is consistently challenging. The audio of the game also envelops players in the multiple environments and various enemy types with different sound effects.

Frontline Commando’s controls are also very polished. Aiming is controlled by moving fingers around the screen with designated fire, reload, and cover movement buttons. There is also a duck button that serves as the reload when near an ammo crate. Include the various purchasable weapons and Frontline Commando’s gameplay can change rapidly.

Various missions require players to eliminate all enemies, survive for a length of time, or even rescue innocent people in the warzone. The variety of missions keeps the experience fresh. Weapons are purchased with money earned through levels or in-game currency purchases. Some weapons and items can only be purchased with the in-game money.

Frontline Commando is a great example of an excellent game using touch controls to manipulate the character onscreen. The experience of Frontline Commando is amazing because the game plays very smoothly.

Frontline Commando is an excellent 3rd person shooter that gets quickly addictive.

Download Frontline Commando Android 1.0.0 in Softonic

http://airattack-hd.en.softonic.com/android

AirAttack HD Part 1 is an awesome aerial battle game for Android. The free air combat shooter challenges you to wipe out your enemy over three tough missions.

If you like games like Sky Force and AirStrike then you'll love AirAttack HD. As with these other games, it's a 3D vertical scrolling flying game where you must gun down planes as well as take out military vehicles and bases on the ground.

There are four different control systems in AirAttack HD: Touch, Relative Touch, Tilt, and JoyPad. All are very easy to master because essentially the plane flies itself and fires automatically. That doesn't mean AirAttack HD is easy though. With 24 different types of enemy to negotiate, all firing incessantly at you, the trick is to dodge their weapons by skilfully flying around the screen.

Granted, there are only two planes to choose from in AirAttack HD, but they can be upgraded by earning cash, meaning that this isn't much of an issue.

Graphically, AirAttack HD is excellent, boasting detailed backgrounds and realistic aircraft. We were impressed at how smoothly it ran on our HTC Desire HD. Even when there are lots of enemies and missiles darting around the screen at once, there was no noticeable lag.

The thunderous orchestral music that plays in the background is very rousing, and helps to make AirAttack HD an explosive gaming experience.

AirAttack HD Part 1 has stunning graphics, slick controls and addictive gameplay. It's everything you could want from a mobile game.

Download AirAttack HD Part 1 1.7.2 in Softonic

Shadowgun 1.0.4-Bringing HD graphics to Android

http://shadowgun.en.softonic.com/android

Shadowgun is a third person shooter that combines impressive graphics with solid gameplay.

The game sets players into the role of John Slade, bounty hunter, who is after Dr. Edgar Simon, who is a crazy genius and leader of his own army. While the plot of the game creates the setting and overall theme of the game, Shadowgun focuses on action. Players will be moving from cover to cover, peeking out long enough to annihilate everything in Slade's way.

With a claim of six hours of gameplay, Shadowgun could have a lot to offer players. Mixing the cover system with a variety of weapons creates an addictive experience that can also be slightly frustrating.

Shadowgun’s main emphasis on action is tempered with the impressive visuals. Using the Unity Engine, character and environment models are detailed. Add the lighting effects into Shadowgun and the game is one of the best looking mobile games.

Controls in Shadowgun use an on-screen movement pad and separate fire/reload/weapon switch buttons. While it feels strange at first, the close proximity of the buttons becomes second nature quickly. It is a little difficult to precisely aim in Shadowgun, but the game is forgiving enough not to kill players from the start.

Shadowgun is still one of the best shooters for mobile devices and plays well on phones and tablets. Prepare for battery drains with all the action happening on screen though.

Shadowgun is a solid shooter for mobile devices.

Download Shadowgun 1.0.4 in Softonic

Army Sniper 1.2-Take down the terrorists in this fun shooting game

http://army-sniper.en.softonic.com/android

Army Sniper is a fun
shooting game for Android in which you need to take out terrorists from afar with your sniper rifle.

There's both a Story mode and an unlockable Endless mode in Army Sniper. Both are based around the same principle - aim at the bad guys then shoot them. This is easier said than done for several reasons: new terrorists are popping onto the screen all the time, some of them move around a lot, and positioning your aim takes a fair amount of skill.

Aiming in Army Sniper is done by tilting your Android device around. It feels a bit cumbersome at first and perhaps a calibration option would be useful to make it easier. The key to succeeding in Army Sniper is to center in on your targets when looking in normal view then tap the screen to enter the aiming view. Firing is done by tapping an action button on the right of the screen.

The overall presentation of Army Sniper is pretty good. The graphics aren't groundbreaking but some of the backgrounds are well drawn. The music and sound effects in Army Sniper are of good quality. The main gripe users might have with the presentation is the poor written English used in the storyline of the story mode. Some of it is so bad that you have trouble following what's happening!

Overall, Army Sniper is great fun to play and makes for an ideal stress reliever!

Download Army Sniper 1.2 in Softonic

Overkill Android 1.0.1-Static first person shooting

http://overkill.en.softonic.com/android

Overkill is a first person shooter that uses shooting gallery mechanics.

On the surface, Overkill is a post-apocalyptic first person shooter that requires players to shoot everything on screen. But what Overkill really happens to be is a shooting gallery game with lots of blood. Players move a static image of different guns around the screen and fire at emerging enemies.

The game contains 100 rounds and 18 weapons to use. These weapons can be customized in various ways like longer magazines, front grips for stability, and different scopes. Weapons have to be purchased, but Overkill entices players by giving demos during rounds with limited ammunition.

Overkill does not actually contain a lot of animation and uses an enemy aimed timer system before they fire at you. Enemies fall to the ground quickly and fade out before the next set slides or appears behind cover. The blue circle counts down before enemies fire their weapons. In early rounds, single fire rifles can make short work, but later rounds definitely require new weapon purchases.

The challenge of Overkill is to earn money as fast as possible, purchase new weapons, and somehow survive the different enemy types. Even though it is simplistic, there is an addictive feel to the game, trying to survive a lot of rounds.

What might be the only problem is the accuracy of using a finger to move the gun icon around the screen. It is difficult to retain good aim and common to take fire before defeating the enemy. Since this is the majority of the gameplay experience, it can become annoying to have an enemy lined through the sights and still not affect him.

Even though the experience can be a little shallow, Overkill is fun to play in bursts. Grinding through the entire game would become frustrating though.

Overkill is a decent FPS clone, but could use a little more variety.

Download Overkill Android 1.0.1 in Softonic

Sky Striker 1.70-Impressively realistic

http://sky-striker.en.softonic.com/symbian

Have you ever dreamt of flying a Top Gun jet when you’re sat on the bus? The new game, Sky Striker aims to provide you with just that experience: a complete combat flight simulator with good graphics, tricky physics and multiple weapon options.

Having managed to get the game to run (by deleting everything else from our test phone’s memory – Sky Striker’s a real resource hog), the first thing we noticed was that it overrides your phone’s profile settings. Even on a phone set to silent, the game starts with full volume music. This irritation isn’t unique to Sky Striker but it’s an irritation all the same. Developers ought to design games which work with your phone’s current set of options, rather than completely ignoring them.

Having adjusted the volume of the music, we gingerly started a mission, read the briefing and selected a plane. Suddenly, we’re mid flight with the nose dipping violently toward the ground… a sharp tug on the joystick (pushing ‘down’ on the phone’s middle button) saved us… but for how long?!

Once you’ve got the hang of the controls, it’s time to try and enjoy the game. Sky Striker’s ‘War on Terror’ storyline, smart, quick graphics and choice of three planes makes it an exciting, addictive and enjoyable challenge. Avoiding causing civilian deaths while simultaneously dodging enemy fire and trying to attack military positions is tough at the best of times but on a mobile phone it’s really hard work. After a while of squinting at the screen, fumbling with the buttons and trying to steer this supersonic jet, you start to wonder: is this really the best sort of game to be developing for a mobile phone?

As a proof of concept, Sky Striker is an impressive feat. It combines nearly all the features of the sort of game we played 12 years ago on PCs and fits them onto a cell phone. It’s very clever but unfortunately, it’s pretty fiddly and just not that much fun to play. Added to that the bad experience with the sound and you’re left with a pretty (and not very highly recommended) memory leech.

Download Sky Striker 1.70 in Softonic

Dead on Arrival 1.7-Survive zombies…all by yourself

http://dead-on-arrival.en.softonic.com/android

Dead on Arrival is a third person shooter that combines surviving waves of zombies with exploration.

The core gameplay of Dead on Arrival is to kill zombies while earning money to purchase new weapons. Dead on Arrival sends waves of zombies at the player while they try to fix doors and explore the hospital where the main character is hiding.

Zombies are divided into different classes with smaller, faster zombies and fatter, slower zombies. As the wave number increases, it is more difficult to kill them and requires stronger, more expensive weapons.

The hospital also contains traps that players can use, but they cost in-game currency which is earned during the round. Players can also buy the money as an in-app purchase.

Visually, Dead on Arrival is a great looking game. While it has some unpolished parts, like uneven textures, the game presents a great set piece for the action of the game. Dead on Arrival features an option to change the quality of the graphics in the game, and while there is a small difference between the low and high settings, the game does benefit from running the game at lower quality.

Controls are two on-screen circle pads with one for movement and the other for directional firing. It is a simple system that works well with zombies lunging from all directions. Although even with the discrete aiming, the game throws so many zombies at the player it is difficult to accurately aim bfor fear of being overrun by zombies.

The different weapons in Dead on Arrival range from regular firearms to freeze-rays and mini-guns. The variety keeps the game interesting, though the reload times on the larger weapons can mean life or death. Players can only hold two weapons at a time and it is even possible to double the same weapon.

Dead on Arrival is a very distinct take on a zombie game. It is similar to other wave or round based gameplay systems, but the exploration in the game gives Dead on Arrival a new dimension of trying to escape or at least find a better weapon.

Dead on Arrival is a great zombie shooter; it just needs to be a little more balanced.

Download Dead on Arrival 1.7 in Softonic

Sniper 1.99-Average Joe or elite sniper? The choice is yours!

http://sniper.en.softonic.com/android

Sniper is a fairly basic but engaging sniper game for your Android.

As you might have guessed, Sniper sees you as a sniper trying to take down terrorists threatening the peace of your city. You’ll need nerves of steel - see a terrorist and tap the screen where you want to shoot. A sight will appear, and you correct your aim by tilting the phone back and forth. This might feel slow, but remember that moving a phone and aiming a sniper rifle aren’t exactly the same thing. Tap the trigger the bottom right corner to shoot.

The aim of Sniper is to take down as many terrorists as possible in a limited time. There's a timer and a health indicator, and if you kill all the terrorists before time runs out, you'll progress to the next level. Sniper comes with basic help, and there’s an online community where you'll be able to add your scores and view other players’.

Sniper is a fun game even though it's not very advanced. The graphics are a bit simple, and at times we thought that the controls weren't very sensitive, especially when it comes to pulling the trigger. We didn't enjoy the game’s music either, but despite these faults, Sniper's still an original, interesting prospect and a good game for your Android phone.

As far as being a killer goes, snipers are really cool. Have all the fun and none of the moral dilemma with Sniper.

Download Sniper 1.99 in Softonic

Frontline Commando iOS 2.0.0-First one in, last one out

http://frontline-commando.en.softonic.com/iphone

Frontline Commando is an excellent 3rd person shooter that gets quickly addictive.

Download Frontline Commando iOS 2.0.0 in Softonic

MetalStorm: Online 3.1.0-Multiplayer online jet fighting!

http://metalstorm.en.softonic.com/iphone

MetalStorm: Online is a free 3D arcade flying game. Take control of a fighter jet and play online against friends or battle waves of fighters in single player mode.

MetalStorm: Online is a free to play game with premium features, meaning you can essentially pay for better equipment in the game, or get it more slowly by playing and winning. When you start you're immediately taken through a tutorial. The controls are simple, a mix of touch and tilt, and seem to work well.

MetalStorm: Online works with GameCenter, so you can easily play against your friends, or you can find players at random to challenge to a dogfight. Multiplayer games are just the right length, and you are normally paired with an opponent with a similar equipment level. The gameplay is pretty simplistic, and strangely the single player games are more dynamic.

Fighting one other plane can often result in flying round and round in circles chasing the other plane, like a dog chasing it's tail. Evasive moves in MetalStorm: Online can be executed when missiles are incoming, but it's hard to just when to do it, as you have no radar. Earning MetalStorm experience points is painfully slow, and weapons upgrades need replacing a lot, making you progress towards that new plane even slower.

MetalStorm: Online is a simplistic Afterburner-like jet fighting game, which is fun for a while against friends, but requires too much grind to progress and has uninspiring environments to fly around.

Download MetalStorm: Online 3.1.0 in Softonic

Gun Bros 2.2-Guns, destruction, and mayhem

http://gun-bros.en.softonic.com/android

Gun Bros is a Smash Bros-style arcade shooter than relies on lots of bullets.

There are a lot of shooters on Android, but none of them have the same type of action that Gun Bros have. An impressive title, Gun Bros combines the craziness of non-stop shooting and constant moving.

The purpose of Gun Bros is to survive waves of different enemy types, gain experience, and earn currency to buy new, powerful weapons. The gameplay nature of Gun Bros requires a lot of patience and repetition. Surviving a few waves is easy with the help of the CPU controlled partner, but later waves mixing different enemy types becomes a strategic attack and retreat battle.

Gun Bros presents impressive visuals containing 3D polygonal characters with highly rendered environments. Even with a massive amount of movement on screen, there was no noticeable lag in gameplay.

Leveling up and purchasing new weapons does make Gun Bros a little easier, but each of the different worlds contains different enemy types and wastes no time sending armies against the duo. Control in Gun Bros is defined by two circles on the touch screen. One is for movement and the other is for directional fire; so it is possible to strafe and retreat while firing in a specific direction.

Gun Bros is free, but supports in-app purchasing so it is possible to spend actual dollars for items in game like weapons and armor. There are multiple ways to earn in-game currency as well.

Gun Bros is an amazing arcade shooter, offering a lot for old school arcade fans.

Download Gun Bros 2.2 in Softonic

Assaulter 1.0-A handheld action movie

http://assaulter.en.softonic.com/android

Back when arcades were common, 2D sprite shooters were some of the best games to play. Since that time consoles have seen a reemergence of the genre and they have started to appear on mobile devices.

Assaulter is one of the most intensive of the 2D shooter genre. Taking many cues from the Metal Slug series, Assaulter only requires the player to do one thing while playing: move the character on the screen. Assaulter takes care of aiming and destroying enemies leaving players to watch the immense amount of action happening on screen.

The game is very much a reference to the Metal Slug series with the graphic art using sprites. The levels contain a lot of color and pixeled detail, but most of the time players will be watching a huge amount of explosions. The audio in Assaulter is also an homage to old action movies where the hero could blow anything up and seemingly survive any circumstance. Most of the time, players will be hearing explosions, but in the gaps of enemies exploding or the environment crumbling, there is a soundtrack.

Assaulter contains new weapons, upgrades, and armor that can be bought with money earned in the level and with three different characters that all gain experience and attain new levels with different styles, players have a lot of replayability.

The 2D sprite shooter is known for quick sessions and fun gameplay, Assaulter follows the same trend very well. It is simple and addictive without much precise skill needed.

Assaulter is a great game for fans of the genre and plays with a hyperactive speed.

Download Assaulter 1.0 in Softonic
