If you've ever played the guitar classic Guitar Hero then you'll see immediately that this game is a tame imitation both in name, graphics and just about everything else.

The game employs the same scoring meters and song listings right down to the font and layout. At the moment, the game only supports a guitar controller so you'll need a PS2 to USB adapter to play it which is a major downside for most people for a start. It's also very similar to Frets on Fire but the music is nowhere near as good or original. That said, despite the distinct lack of originality, this is one of the few Guitar Hero style games available on PC and has a definite appeal for those that have never played Guitar Hero or Frets on Fire. For those users, the game will seem like a revelation and once you've got your USB adaptor, you should have hours of fun on it.

For prospective Van Halens or those that really love to rock out but can't play the guitar, this is a great if heavily copied Guitar Game.

Audiosurf is an original racing-musical game that mixes music with futuristic racing tracks and puzzles.

Music is the main drive of this game because the soundtrack is truly your own - quite literally! The songs that are played throughout the game are taken from your hard drive but you have to hit the right notes and bricks to trigger them in your spaceship. The variety of tracks is therefore endless and of course, since it's your music, you'll love the soundtrack. Once the game begins you guide your ship left and right wither with the mouse or cursor. Your aim to is hit and trap as many blocks as possible. The more you hit of the same colour, the more music you hear and the more points you get. Graphically, the game is a bit basic although there are at least plenty of circuits to choose from and race on. In fact, no track is ever the same because they build in real time depending on the track you've chosen.

This is a fun and original game that will appeal to music lovers, puzzle fans and racing fanatics alike.

Penguins Arena is an enjoyable first person shooter (FPS) with good game play.

In this playful FPS, as a penguin fighting for his tribe's supremacy over the world, you'll have to eliminate all the other penguins, throwing snowballs at them to push them off the island and into the shark ridden waters. Each level is a different island with hills, ice walls and holes.

The game play is pretty intuitive. You use your keyboard to move around and jump and the mouse to shoot. You'll see all the action from the penguin's perspective, which really immerses you in the game. To survive you'll not only have to dodge the other penguins' snowballs but also pick up the bonuses that get scattered around. As you'll advance through the game more weapons , such as bombs, claws or clownfishes will also be available.

The only weak point to the game is the multiplayer mode. When we actually could manage to find other players to fight against, the game crashed, in what seemed to be a memory issue.

An original plot, great game play and lots of bonuses make for a perfect arcade success. It's a shame online play doesn't work well.

I'll admit it: I'm not a huge fan of MMORPGs (AKA Massively Multiplayer Online RolePlay Games). I've never been into mythical creatures or hocus pocus, so many games in the genre were an immediate turn-off for me. Also, I've witnessed the harrowing effects of a World Of Warcraft addiction, ravaging friends and colleagues alike, with its demand for more and more gold.

So it was with trepidation that I fired-up the third iteration of A Tale In The Desert (ATITD), an MMORPG based in ancient Egypt. But that trepidation soon faded to fascination: ATITD is really interesting and very different from most other games in the MMORPG genre. It's completely non-violent and relies on players working together as a real community to achieve goals. You start on a small beginners' island and immediately start to discover what you need to do to escape to the main game islands. Building a ferry teaches you pretty much everything you need to get started in the world and to achieve citizen status.

ATITD's graphics are fairly good, especially considering we tested it on a machine without much in the way of video RAM. The sound effects and music in the game were also very pleasant, and added a lot of atmosphere. I noticed various server timeouts during my test of the game, and I suspect that these issues disappear when you become a paying player (after the 24hr demo, the game costs US$13.95 per month).

A fun and challenging MMORPG which represents a welcome departure in the genre for those not enchanted by magic and pixies.
