Bejeweled 2 1.30-More Bejeweled than ever!

http://bejeweled-2.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Games for mobile devices come in a wide range of styles. While many are effective ‘ports’ (or copies) from more mainstream gaming platforms, shrunken down to match small screens, lots are invented especially for PDAs and feature gameplay elements and features which really make the most of what small devices have to offer.

Bejeweled 2 is one such game. Built specifically for Pocket PCs and PalmOS PDAs, this impressive game features outstanding gameplay, beautiful graphics and guaranteed stability, even on slower devices. The object of Bejeweled 2 is simple. Swap neighboring jewels to create lines of three which are then eliminated, only to be replaced by the jewels above them. Wisely avoiding a complex gameplay style, all operations are performed with the stylus (a far better control method than the joystick on Pocket PCs).

When you start a game of Bejeweled 2, you’re given brief instructions and reminders for how to obtain your goal. If you’re stuck and can’t find any jewels to swap, Bejeweled 2 will notice and after several seconds of inactivity it gives you a small prompt as to which jewel you should try swapping. This feature is perfect for beginners and can be easily switched off from the main menu.

Bejeweled 2 offers four distinct game modes, each of which is playable in the excellent trial version we used for this review. ‘Classic’ and ‘Action’ modes are similar, except that ‘Action’ play includes a dynamic time-bar which you have to keep from running out. ‘Puzzle’ mode offers a series of increasingly difficult set-piece puzzles which you have to complete in order to unlock higher levels. ‘Endless’ mode is, as the name eloquently suggests, Bejeweled 2 without end: with no target or time limit, this is perfect for players who are looking for a couple of minutes’ game time. Bejeweled 2 also features a screensaver which can be set to display a series of the stunning game backgrounds, along with time and battery data.

While Bejeweled 2’s gameplay is excellent, its graphics are the key to what makes this game really enjoyable. From the already mentioned background images to special effects on individual jewels, Bejeweled 2 has been designed to constantly impress. Rich sound effects and a tuneful soundtrack make the experience complete. Graphics, sound and music can all be controlled from the Options menu, but we found that the more intensive settings didn’t cause any problems on slower test devices.

Bejeweled 2 is, if you like, that rare gem of PDA games. Original, stylishly designed, easy to pick up and highly addictive, it will enchant beginners and keep more experienced players entertained for weeks and months. If you have one game on your Pocket PC, let it be Bejeweled 2!

Download Bejeweled 2 1.30 in Softonic

Smart Educational Games 1.2-Stretch your brain muscles with these fun games

http://smart-educational-games.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

If you want to get the most out of your life then it's important to keep your brain in good shape. There are lots of ways you can do this - including installing Smart Educational Games on your Smartphone.

Smart Educational Games consists of a series of four mini games that test different aspects of your mind. The Space Invaders-style Math game challenges your addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. You are given a figure and must shoot the spaceship with the sum that matches that amount.

The Memory game is a straightforward matching pairs game, where points are awarded based on how few moves you take to find all of the pairs. The Puzzle game sees you try to make a picture by rearranging the tiles, and the Earth game tests your knowledge of the location of countries and capital cities.

There are two difficulty levels for each of the mini games in Smart Educational Games - one for children and one for adults. Each mini game features its own high scores table too.

Smart Educational Games is well presented and fun to play. One of the few criticisms I could level at it would be that there is not enough variety within the mini games. Many Similar brain training-style games usually have an array of different challenges within one skill category, whereas the ones in Smart Educational Games only have the one.

That said, Smart Educational Games does offer a simple way to have fun and pump your cerebral muscles at the same time.

Download Smart Educational Games 1.2 in Softonic

http://travel-genius.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Travel Genius tests your knowledge of Planet Earth with a series of quizzes about countries, cities, oceans and flags.

The game poses you a question about a place and you have to locate it by clicking on the relevant grid on the map. In most cases you don't need to be too specific in Travel Genius because the grid squares are quite big, but it can still be quite tough especially on the hardest of the two difficulty levels.

After each level you complete in Travel Genius you will open up new quizzes, all of which are displayed on a bookshelf in the main menu. Your performance is measure in an 'IQ' section, where a graph displays your progress over time. Here you can see how your scores match up to the recommended averages for beginner, expert and professional levels. Travel Genius even includes an online high scores table so you can challenge the rest of the World.

If we were to pick one hole in Travel Genius it would be that same questions come up quite often when you go back and play levels again, which gets quite annoying.

But if you want to discover how much you really know about our planet then Travel Genius offers a fun way to do so.

Download Travel Genius 1.0 in Softonic

http://mdiamondz.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Logic games that involve forming lines from different colored pieces are nothing new but, as mDiamondz proves, they can still be highly addictive.

The object of mDiamondz is to make rows or columns of same-colored pieces by switching them around. There are two different game modes to tackle.

In the first of these, KlikerZz, you must join a minimum of two diamonds together. The second game mode, SwaperZz, is a little trickier, as you need to create at least a trio of diamonds of the same color by swapping two pieces around.

Graphically, mDiamondz is very neat, although the pieces are very small, so you'll have to hold your mobile very close to your eyes. The techno music soundtrack quickly becomes annoying, as do the weird speech and flushing toilet sound effects.

Playing mDiamondz is very addictive and the challenge of getting rid of all of the diamonds on the board is a tough one.
Resco Sokoban 2.12 (SP)-Box-pushing fun on your Smartphone

http://resco-sokoban.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Sokoban is one of the all-time classic puzzlers, and Resco's version of the box-pushing game is one of the best you'll find for Windows Mobile.

The object of Resco Sokoban is to push boxes into their correct position in a crowded warehouse. Boxes can only be pushed, never pulled, so you have to use all your cunning and logic skills to avoid getting stuck. The game features more than 1,000 levels, of increasing difficulty, some of which can take hours, or even days, to figure out.

The controls in Resco Sokoban are pretty easy to figure out, and you can walk around using the directional buttons or the number keys. Your objective is to try to complete the puzzles in the quickest time possible, and your highest scores are kept in a log. The full version of Resco Sokoban even allows you to compete against others by posting your high scores online.

This demo version of Resco Sokoban does not allow you to access online high scores, neither does it let you choose a character. Oh, and you can only play three of the levels. All in all, it's a pretty limited demo really.

It might be worth an upgrade though, since Resco Sokoban combines simple controls with addictive gameplay to create a highly enjoyable challenge.

Download Resco Sokoban 2.12 (SP) in Softonic

Bubble Shuffle 1.00-Solve word puzzles under the sea

http://bubble-shuffle.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

If you're ever been swimming in the Great Barrier Reef then you'll know all about the rare fish down there who like to play word games on the ocean bed. If you don't believe me then check out Bubble Shuffle.

This vexing undersea-themed mobile game will test both your vocabulary and your spelling skills. The object of Bubble Shuffle is to make as many words as you can from letters contained within bubbles. You can arrange the bubbles by selecting them in order to display them in the word window.

As long as you can find at least one word that uses all of the letters at your disposal you can progress to the next level by clicking 'Advance'. As you move through the levels, the number of letters increases, as does the difficulty. There are four different game modes in Bubble Shuffle - two are timed and two are unlimited, 'free' games. You can also pick from four difficulty levels, and choose to employ the 'extended' dictionary if you're feeling particularly ambitious.

The presentation of Bubble Shuffle is excellent. The cartoony, aquatic theme is well designed and the tranquil music and sound effects put you into a dreamlike state that will keep you fixated by Bubble Shuffle for ages. I especially like the cartoon fish presenter, Wordsworth, who shouts abuse at you when you choose a word that doesn't exist.

The gameplay does get a bit repetitive, but Bubble Shuffle is well splashing out for if you're a word game fan.

Download Bubble Shuffle 1.00 in Softonic

Brain Games for SmartPhone 2.10-Train your brain on your Smartphone

http://brain-games.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Brain training games are all the rage these days, and Resco Brain Games brings an accomplished take on the format to Windows Mobile devices.

Brain Games is designed to help you improve your mental capabilities by following a course of different tests and puzzles. There are 36 in all, which test challenge your skills in mathematics, memory and analysis. Each of the 36 brain games are broken down into ten separate tests of rising difficulty, and you can't progress to the next difficulty level until you've finished the previous test.

You're awarded stars out of five depending on how many questions you get right and how quickly you finish the brain games. A glamorous teacher is on-hand to award you your points, or simply to give you instructions on what to do.

The control system is Resco Brain Games has been very well designed and makes for intuitive use via the direction pad. The layout of the answer buttons means you have no excuse for being slow to answer, as they're incredibly simple to access.

There's no doubt that the tests in Brain Games are great for boosting your brain power, and as I could clearly see from the comprehensive statistics section, I found myself steadily improving over time. My only slight qualm would be that the games aren't diverse enough. Perhaps some word puzzles or reflex-testing games would've made Brain Games a more well-rounded app.

Nevertheless, Resco Brain Games is without doubt one of the best Smartphone brain trainers around.

Download Brain Games for SmartPhone 2.10 in Softonic

mGomoku-Angels and devils collide at tic-tac-toe

http://mgomoku.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

One of the problems I've always had with tic-tac-toe (or naughts and crosses as you may know it) is that the games are either over quickly or they end up in a draw.

mGomoku changes all that, adding a more in-depth spin on the classic game, where instead of joining three naughts or crosses in a row, you need to make a line of five.

Games in mGomoku are played on a large board with lots of very small squares. You simple need to tap any free square and your character (the angel or the devil) will throw their piece into that square. This in itself can be a tricky process unless your careful, as you can often end up selecting the wrong square and blowing your chances.

mGomoku is great fun to play and mightily difficult to defeat. There are six levels of difficulty to choose from, but I found even the easiest took a lot of patience to become good at. One good thing is that all your performances are recorded automatically in the stats section, meaning you can keep track of your progress.

Apart from the bizarre sound effects the only thing I disapproved of in mGomoku was the tragic omission of a multi-player mode. A game as fun and strategic as this is always best enjoyed when battling it out against a friend.

As a one-player game though, mGomoku will certainly keep you amused for some time.

Download mGomoku in Softonic

Caisses 1.21-Impressive free Sokoban game with 500 levels

http://caisses.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

If you've ever dreamed about working in a warehouse (and I know I have on many occasions), then the chances are you used to love playing Sokoban. Although, you probably didn't know it was called Sokoban, but it's the one where you have to push boxes in a straight line into a designated space.

Well, the game is still alive and kicking, and is widespread on mobile devices. Caisses is one of the more interesting clones I've come across though, and provides amazing depth considering it's a piece of freeware.

Your basic aim is the same old story - you're a warehouseman who must shuffle parcels around. You can only push the boxes in a straight line, and you can't push more than one box at a time. As a result, the gameplay is very addictive, but certainly not very original.

The best thing about Caisses is the fact that you can customise the game to the n-th degree. Not only can you choose from a bevy of cool backgrounds, but there are loads of game themes to choose from too. For instance, you can choose to play as Pac-Man, Zangeif, a nurse, or even the Linux penguin, and the objects you push will then change accordingly.

It gets pretty tough as you progress through the 500 levels, so it would've been nice to see some kind of hints feature, but the challenge of getting your head around the hundreds of puzzles is enough to keep you coming back for more.

Great looking and infinitely customisable, I challenge you to find a better Sokoban clone for Windows Mobile.

Download Caisses 1.21 in Softonic

Snowed In 7 - White Christmas 1.01-Help Santa manage the presents

http://rcv-freitag-snowed-in-7.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

If you've played any of the Snowed In games before then you'll know just how addictive they can be. Now in its seventh year, this latest version of the game proves to be a real cracker.

Snowed In 7 - White Christmas charges you with the task of helping Santa round up the presents that have been frozen in the ice. The presents are located in squares arranged on a large grid, and must be matched up into rows or columns of three or more matching items. You do this by clicking on a present then selecting where you want to move it to (it has to be an adjacent square).

It's great fun to play, and although Snowed In 7 can get a bit repetitive, you should be coming back to it for quite a while to try to beat the high score on both the Easy and Timed game modes.

In terms of its presentation, Snowed In 7 looks and sounds great. Though small, the graphics are cute and colorful, and the Christmassy music and sound effects make this a real festive cracker.

Traffic Jam 2 1.00-Think your way out of a traffic jam

http://traffic-jam-2.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

We all hate getting stuck in traffic jams, so why on Earth would anyone put themselves through it for fun in a computer game?
Actually, if you're stuck in traffic in real life then Traffic Jam 2 is quite a fun way to pass the time, allowing you to vent your frustration by at least pretending to be out of a bumper-to-bumper situation.

The purpose of this puzzle game is to guide your little Beetle out of the jam by moving the cars around it to clear its path. The road is split into a series of cells and you can only move vehicles in a straight line.

Although there's little in the way of in-game help, it's pretty easy to pick up, and before too long you'll be engrossed.
The pixel-art graphics in this game are great fun and there are lots of different kinds of vehicles throughout.

The inclusion of a 2D view is welcome because sometimes it can be difficult to see where you can move in a real gridlock situation. Although the demo only lets you play a rather stingy 10 levels, there are 250 to play in the game so this is one that will keep you going for a while.

One of the few sour points of Traffic Jam 2 is the background music. The tune loops throughout the whole game and doesn't vary from level to level, so unless you mute it you'll end up clinically insane after more than half an hour's gaming.

Download Traffic Jam 2 1.00 in Softonic

Shift 1.06-Eliminate squares using the touchscreen

http://shift.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

I love a good puzzle game to keep me occupied on a long bus or train journey, but I'm fed up of all the Tetris or Sudoku clones that keep springing up on mobile platforms.

Shift makes for a refreshing break on Windows Mobile, with some innovative gameplay that will keep you hooked for ages. The game consists of a series of coloured blocks with faces on that you must match together in groups of three or more to clear them. The difference between this and games like Tetris is that all the blocks move as one big lump.

Shift makes full use of the touchscreen, allowing you to tap any of the four directional arrows to move the blocks in that way. I'll admit that, at first, it tried my patience somewhat, and I thought I'd never score more than a few points. With a bit of persistence though I was able to rack up combos and hit some seriously good scores (even if I do say so myself!) After that it would take a meteor (or, in reality, the fact I had to write a review about it) to get me off this one.

It can become somewhat repetitive but the inclusion of two difficulty levels and a high scores table adds to the longevity of Shift. You can also choose to show or hide the next bricks to test yourself even further.

This is an innovative puzzle game with colourful graphics that's perfect for those tedious bus journies.
Master Kick 1.6-Exciting table soccer game

http://master-kick.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Here at Softonic we like nothing more than a game of table-soccer over a quiet drink at the beginning, middle and end of the day, by which time it's usually got quite aggressive and no-one is talking to anyone anymore. Then we leave for the night ready to do the same thing again the next day. Oh how I longed for a day when I could enjoy the fun of table-soccer without having to play with my colleagues. Well, imagine my excitement when I found Master Kick.

This is a bright, fast and very loud version of table-soccer. The graphics, shot from a birds-eye view or blimp for those of you who know about FA Cup final day, are superb and the controls are surprisingly simple to get the hang of. However, I did find it difficult to score and even more challenging to win. Choose a 4-3-3 formation or 3-4-3, 4-3-3 for me always, and watch out for the changeable weather. There are different pitches and even screaming fans. It's a great game this notwithstanding the terribly loud football rave music.

Download Master Kick 1.6 in Softonic

Advanced Brain Trainer - Deluxe Version 1.1 (SP)-Improve your brain power

http://advanced-brain-trainer-deluxe-version.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Let's face it, whoever came up with the Brain Training series of games probably doesn't need to play them themselves. Judging by the mammoth success of the series, they already have plenty of brain cells up there.

The great thing about Advanced Brain Training is that it's not just a gimmick. I've tried them before and been pleasantly surprised with the improvements in my powers of recall and ability to solve logic puzzles.

Advanced Brain Trainer Deluxe is designed to provide the ultimate workout for your mind, allowing you to carry it around with you everywhere on your mobile device.

The game consists of a series of modules designed to boost your brain power over time. Each module is broken down into exercises that test different mental abilities.

For instance, the first module included in this demo version includes three different tests based around memory, logic and mathematics, all of them executed in the form of fun challenges with nice visuals.

The first task is to memorize shopping items and their prices. These items then pass along a checkout and after that you must try to remember how many of each item was bought and what the total cost was.

This is a lot trickier than you might imagine (well, for me at least). Then it's on to the logic element, where you need to remember two shapes before working out which of the four patterns they've been made to create.

Finally, it's on to a quick-fire addition and multiplication test.
The great thing about Advanced Brain Trainer Deluxe is the way the puzzles are presented.

Rather than just setting a series of tasks that you need to scroll through, some thought has gone into the way your development is realized on screen.

So, you get to choose from two coaches each with their own personality (Bill and Ann), who guide you through each of the modules, giving you advice and feedback on your performance.

You can also track your progress over time through charts and graphs that appear whenever you complete a module.
While some of the tasks seem a little too tricky at the start, the beauty of the brain training format is that when you view your progress chart, you will, more often than not, see an upward trend, proving that you'd be a dummy not to give it a go.

Well-presented and fun to play, Advanced Brain Trainer Deluxe offers a pleasant way to expand your gray matter while you're sat on the bus.

Download Advanced Brain Trainer - Deluxe Version 1.1 (SP) in Softonic

Brain School SP Brain Trainer 1.12-A cerebral workout

http://brain-school-sp-brain-trainer.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Brain School is an IQ tester aimed at a younger audience but with five levels of increasing difficulty the action soon advances out of the school gates and becomes a challenge for all adults. There are the expected simple numbers tests, shapes, word puzzles, and spatial awareness teasers.

You begin on the very easiest level which should be OK for most. The first activity is following a coin that is covered by a top hat (the old follow the coin trick), but you do have to get five out of five to progress to the next stage. Each time you finish a level you get a report card and only A+ will suffice. Then move through the stages like advancing years at school and try to pass your exams. If you don't you can just start again! It's a good cerebral workout but it takes a while to get going.

Download Brain School SP Brain Trainer 1.12 in Softonic

Sudoku Pro 2.0 (SP)-Sudoku for professionals

http://sudoku-pro.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

If you're a Sudoku lover but sometimes find the puzzles a bit too easy and want a new challenge then this pro version of the numerical brainteaser could be for you. However, if you're not so confident and always play with a pencil rather than a pen don't worry, there are plenty of easy levels here as well. Sudoku Pro is offering plenty of options.

For me, Sudoku is sometimes not as fulfilling to play on a mobile as on the back of a newspaper but there are two options here that make up for that: Pencil mode, where you can fill in your answers in rough before being sure; and drawing mode, which is similar but allows you to put several numbers in the same box to improve your prospects. Also, you can create your own puzzles which is great for transferring grids from newspapers when you don¡'t want to keep the tatty paper with you all day. There are lots of levels for all players and lots of fun options making this a Sudoku master to savour.

Download Sudoku Pro 2.0 (SP) in Softonic

Bubble Babble 1.00-Connect the bubbles to form words

http://bubble-babble.en.softonic.com/windowsmobile

Now, normally I wouldn't recommend playing word games underwater because you'll get your puzzle book all soggy. However, with Bubble Babble you can have plenty of fun with words without getting wet.

The object of this brain-bending game is to create words from the letters floating around in the bubbles on screen. If you manage impress your friendly fish host, Wordsworth Smartygills you'll score points and progress through to the next level.

Before you start playing Bubble Babble it's worth having a look at the excellent (if slightly long-winded) animated tutorial, where Wordsworth demonstrates how to play and you get the chance to pull off a few moves. Joining the bubbles together is done simply by dragging them next to each other using the d-pad. It's a rather cumbersome control system and sometimes it doesn't seem to detect when two bubbles are touching and you have to keep trying, which soon becomes annoying.

There are four different game modes to try, each presenting a different kind of puzzle. There's Challenge, where you need to make a certain number of words within a given time; target, in which you must put the separated words back together; Mystery, where you're asked to find the hidden word; and Freeplay, which lets you make words to your heart's content.

I was impressed by Bubble Babble's overall presentation. The graphics and sound are fun and capture the aquatic theme very well. There are plenty of options to tinker around with, and a great Stats feature, which lets you view all manner of details about your performance.

It can get a little repetitive after a while, but if you're a fan of word puzzles Bubble Babble provides a more entertaining way to play than a puzzle book can.

Download Bubble Babble 1.00 in Softonic
