What's the aim?

The object of Where's My Water? is to help Swampy the hygiene-obsessed alligator take a bath by digging a path for fresh water to run down through the sewers and through his shower head. Hold your finger down and draw a path through the mud to send the water cascading down (or up in some cases!). You can scroll down levels using the somewhat cumbersome slider bar.

Borrowing elements from the classic Pipes puzzle game and more recent water-based puzzlers such as Sprinkle, Where's My Water? challenges you to complete more than 140 different puzzles (just 25 in this free version), each with a different route through to Swampy.

A tough challenge

Completing levels in Where's My Water? isn't as easy as you might think. There are lots of obstacles to negotiate, such as acidic water that will burn Swampy if it touches him, conveyor belts, bridges, barriers, and much more. It's complicated by the rather crude digging controls, which aren't very precise - especially if you have fat fingers!

In each puzzle you should try to collect as many of the three rubber ducks as you can by filling them with water en route. There are also unlockable items and achievements to complete along the way, so there's plenty of gaming to be had in Where's My Water?

How good is it?

Besides having an original and captivating concept, a great game needs to be well executed in its presentation, and Where's My Water? certainly ticks this box. The cartoony graphics are great fun, and the physics of the water is very realistic.

Swampy himself is a real character. We love the way he sings in the shower, complains when not enough water is coming through, and gets so excited when the taps come on. The music in Where's My Water? is very catchy, and unlike many games like this, it rarely gets boring.

Where's My Water? is one of the most enjoyable casual games for iOS, and is challenging enough to keep you playing for hours and hours.

The object of Tetris for iPad is, of course, to make horizontal lines from the falling shapes. The controls are entirely based around touchscreen gestures. You tap to the side of a falling block to rotate it one way or the other, click and drag a shape to place it, or tap the bottom of the screen to make it fall instantly. There is a d-pad mode in the game, if you're having trouble with the gesture-based controls.

There are two different game modes in Tetris for iPad. Marathon mode is like the traditional Tetris, where you just keep going, the levels raising and the bricks falling faster as you go. Like the iPhone version, Tetris for iPad also features the Magic mode. Here, you get to use cool power-ups to help you beat each level, such as exploding mines that destroy blocks; bubble wrap that lets you pop individual square; and a magic crayon that lets you draw any shaped brick you like.

Pristine presentation

The presentation of Tetris for iPad is the best of any mobile version of the game I've seen. The graphics are colorful and sparkly, and the sound and voice effects are crisp and full of impact. Unfortunately, the music in Tetris for iPad is almost unbearable. I would've preferred just the original Gameboy version of the soundtrack rather than the hideous remixes that appear in this one.

There are plenty of game options to tweak in Tetris for iPad and the game keeps a record of all your stats, so you can track your progress.

Tetris for iPad does justice to the original format of the game, and the introduction of the Magic mode means you'll get addicted to it more than ever.

Reminiscent of similar popular shooter games for your PC, like Snood, Burning Bubbles Lab is your typical race-against-time type of game where the object is to clear your screen of colored bubbles before you run out of space. Just like others in its class, connecting three bubbles of the same color will "free" the bubbles, blowing them up and off your screen. Any bubbles attached below the ones that are freed also disappear from the screen. The goal is to clear the game screen of bubbles in each level to move onto the next.

Burning Bubbles Lab has quite a few levels too, despite being a free game app: a definite plus. In addition, old hats at shooter games will recognize the moving walls as a familiar challenge. Unlike on Snood where the ceiling collapses, however, Burning Bubbles Lab's floor rises at a steady pace instead. Apart from that, the game is almost identical to others of its genre.

Unfortunately for avid shooter game enthusiasts, Burning Bubbles Lab doesn't save your score from game to game. In fact, it doesn't even have a scoring system at all. Burning Bubbles Lab's touch-pad launcher can also be a little testy and inaccurate from time to time.

If you're looking for a basic shooter game with a plethora of different levels, give Burning Bubbles Lab a try.

From the beginnings of the series on handhelds, the Scribblenauts series has a lot of popularity. Using words to create objects to solve puzzles is intuitive, but has a smart challenge for users while playing.

Scribblenauts Remix is a ported version of the original game with new iOS created levels. Containing forty puzzles from the original game and the sequel, Scribblenauts Remix adds ten new puzzles.

The iOS port of Scribblenauts Remix retains all of the charm and style of the handheld releases. The controls are formatted for iOS so that protagonist Maxwell is controlled by touching the sides of the device and moving the camera is completed by a two-finger touch and scroll.

Scribblenauts Remix also keeps the great puzzle solving gameplay with the on-screen keyboard providing an easy place to type the solutions to the puzzles.

Difficulty over the forty levels does have a tendency to sneak up and surprise with some of the puzzles, but overall the experience is a lot of fun. With iOS 5, Scribblenauts Remix supports iCloud and allows users to play Scribblenauts Remix across multiple devices without having to restart their game.

The experience is almost a perfect package, bringing a classic handheld game to iOS.

The goal of Bejeweled Blitz is to get the highest score possible as a timer counts down. The game requires fast reflexes and quick thinking to match as many jewels as possible.

Bejeweled Blitz’s visuals are the same as in other Bejeweled games, the focus of the action is just matching different colored jewels together. Even the animations are not really sophisticated or cover the screen a lot. With time as the main factor, Bejeweled Blitz focuses on simplicity.

The gameplay is frantic and fast. With only a minute to find as many matches, you are scanning the screen and possibly using one of the many power-ups that are available to use. There is no big change in the gameplay and feels familiar quickly.

A big part of the app is Facebook connect, so if your friends are playing you can see their scores as well.

Bejeweled Blitz is a great quick session game where you can play against your friends.

No doubt you've played Bejeweled, or at least a variant of it at some point in your life. But for the benefit of those who haven't, the object of Bejeweled 2 is to make rows or columns of matching gems to clear them from the stack. You swap gems around by tapping the one you want to move then the one you want to change it with. You can only swap gems with adjacent gems in Bejeweled 2. No diagonals are allowed.

Bejeweled 2 for iPhone features four different game modes. There's the Classic mode, where you need to reach a set allocation of gems to progress to the next level. Then there's Action mode, which applies a time limit to each level. Bejewled 2 also features Endless mode, and Blitz, which allows you to connect to Facebook and enter weekly competitions against other players.

The presentation of Bejeweled 2 on the iPhone is impeccable. The planetary-themed backgrounds are very impressive, as are the swooshy transitions between each level. The music and sound effects used in Bejeweled 2 are some of the sharpest I've heard on an iPhone game and, along with the synthesized speech effects, help to give it a true arcade feel.

Bejeweled 2 excels in its gameplay, and this is one of those puzzle games that you can get totally immersed in for hours if you're not too careful. The ability to rack up combos and access special power-ups by making long lines only serves to add to its addictiveness.

Much like Tetris, Bejeweled 2 is one of those rare classics that never lose their appeal, and its transition to iPhone has been immaculate. A must-have for all puzzle game fans.

The purpose of the game is to connect the different colored dots together by making a path. Each path cannot overlap so you have to find the correct path. Depending on the difficulty, there are various grids with a variety of colored dots.

Easy levels in Flow Free are quick and simple, but the hard difficulty puzzles can be challenging. The great part of Flow Free is that there is a definite answer to each puzzle and it takes some thought to solve them.

Offering over 600 free levels, there is a lot of gameplay with Flow Free. You can spend a couple seconds on the easy levels and a couple minutes on the difficult ones. The interface is simple and easy to understand, and all the levels are unlocked so it is not a grind to unlock anything.

Flow Free is a great puzzle game for iOS.

What is Draw Something about?

The idea of Draw Something 2 is that you take it in turns with one other person to guess words which the other draws.You can play against someone you know via your Facebook account or Draw Something login - or against a random stranger online.

When drawing, you choose a word from a list from a series of categories. Each word is awarded an amount of coins, meaning that the harder the word the more coins you get if the other person guesses correctly. Coins can be exchanged for new pens, colors and design tools to help you draw better pictures.

Draw Something 2 improves upon the previous version of the game in a number of ways. Not only are there 5,000 new words to guess, but the game includes the ability to follow celebrities and popular Draw Something artists, a gallery of artwork from players, and support for adding textures, tints, patterns and shapes.

How to play Draw Something 2

Draw Something 2 is easy to pick up and play even if you've not played the first version of the game. There's an interactive tutorial when you first start it up that explains how to draw and how to guess.

Once you've set up your match all you need to do is choose a word and start drawing using the tools at your disposal. Drawing in Draw Something 2 is a bit tricky to get used to, particularly on older iPhones which have smaller screens. It's hard to be very precise with your artwork unless you have very slender fingers! There are patterns and shapes that can help you, but you'll need to unlock these with coins.

Fun and friendly design

Draw Something 2 features a fun and friendly user interface, with plenty of color and bright icons. Check out the gallery section and you'll see exactly how creative you can be once you've mastered the drawing tools.

The verdict

Draw Something 2 isn't as intellectually stimulating as similar head-to-head games such as WordFeud, Words with Friends or Triviados. This, coupled with the fact that it's easy to cheat in games just by writing the answer, means that games can lose their appeal quite quickly.

That said, Draw Something 2 is a lot of fun and a good way to express your creative side in a competitive way. The new additions in this second installment of the game add some extra interest, too.

The core gameplay is the same as many other games. You have to match a minimum of three colored bubbles to remove them from the level. Bubble Seasons also adds other gameplay addition by putting rocks and ice in levels. Rocks cannot be directly removed and ice takes the color of the dispersed bubbles.

Bubble Seasons has a big Holiday theme because it was released during before the Christmas season. Even with the snow-covered levels, the graphics are very smooth.

Each level costs one point or lightning bolt that Bubble Seasons requires to play, but when you compete a level with two or more stars, you will earn one lightning bolt. Three stars earn two lightning bolts. Bubble Seasons also has power-ups that can be used in the game like greater accuracy, a multi-colored ball, or point multipliers.

Bubble Seasons uses the same basic core gameplay of color matching, but presents it in a polished package.

Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD is more fun than Angry Birds

Users catapult different vehicles at skulls in Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD. But unlike other similar puzzle titles, Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD contains a lot more satisfying destruction. The main vehicle that is used is a semi-truck, set on a launcher, and let loose to fly through the air and destroy structures protecting the different skulls.

It is a simple, recognized gameplay mechanic, but what Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD does different is offer better and more interesting types of vehicles and secondary elements. Some trucks contain more weight and others contain a nitrous turbo causing more damage.

Other trucks are outfitted with bombs or have strange secondary trajectories. It will take a user a good amount of time to become proficient in each truck, each power-up, and even more time to become a master of Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD.

Containing a huge amount of levels, Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD gives a lot to the player to experience. Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD also contains a gold shop, with gold earned while playing or even returning to the game once a day. The gold can purchase new trucks, unlock keys for levels, and other items to use in the game.

The only main drawback is there are a lot of ads in Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD. It almost feels like each level contains some type of connectivity to other apps or offers for other games. While Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD contains really addictive gameplay, the ads take away a lot from the polished experience.

Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD is great for fans of Angry Birds. The gameplay is similar enough that there is not a strong learning curve and actually plays a lot more interestingly than other games.

Trucks and Skulls NITRO HD gives players a lot to experience at a low cost (FREE), and the Nitro HD version contains a level maker not seen in the iPhone version.

The gameplay in Bubble Witch Saga is familiar and not anything truly original, but it does use the color matching mechanic very well. Each orb has a different point value. On the bottom are different cauldrons. When you break orbs and cause them to fall, they will fall into one of the cauldrons, giving you more points. These affect your score. You are given a limited number of orbs to match with and if you run out, the game is over.

Bubble Witch Saga also has power-up items and Facebook connectivity. You can earn gold in the levels to purchase the power-ups and other in-game accessories that can help you during your game.

Graphics in Bubble Witch Saga are static backgrounds with all the action happening in the foreground. The game does not have intricate graphics, but they fit Bubble Witch Saga very well. It is good that the game has a simple interface because it takes planning to maximize your shots.

While the gameplay of Bubble Witch Saga is fun, the game presents an annoying amount of in-game purchase options, including real money transactions. It breaks the fun of the game when you are inundated with purchase options. If the game was more intelligent in how it presented in-app purchases, it would be a lot more fun, but even having to wait for continues or needing to purchase them is a gameplay mechanic that should not be in a puzzle game.

Bubble Witch Saga has great gameplay, but the integration of in-app purchases is discouraging.

Puzzloop is a colorful puzzle designed for the iPhone and iPod Touch that you'll be hooked on before you realize it. Your mission is simple: use the cannon in the center of the screen to shoot balls at the line around you, so that you get at least three balls of the same color together. Then they'll disappear from the line and you'll earn points. If the line reaches the cannon, you're lost!

Of course, things get a bit more complicated in Puzzloop as you progress through the game: faster pace, less time, annoying creatures that make your balls bounce off the line… anything goes!

Also, Puzzloop can get a bit frustrating because the iPhone screen seems to be very sensitive and you need to be very careful when aiming at balls if you don't want to miss the shot. Just keep on trying and you'll get the knack of it!

There are two other versions of Puzzloop with more levels, but this free version is more than enough to get you hooked – and - perhaps even begin to consider buying the full one!

Puzzloop is a Zuma-based, fun addictive puzzle that will keep you amused for a decent while.

You move gems in iJewels simply by tapping the one you wish to change then tapping an adjacent jewel to swap them around. Make a line of three or more same-colored stones and they will disappear, causing all the gems above them to fall down. If any of the falling jewels form matching lines, these will be cleared too. The game is over when no more matching lines can be made.

There are three different game modes in iJewels: Normal mode, where you need to make a certain number of lines to progress to the next level; Timed mode, in which is the same but with a time limit; and Infinite mode, where you keep going to try and beat your best score before you run out of options.

The presentation of iJewels is very good. The gems themselves are sparkly and colorful, and the backgrounds are imaginative and well drawn. The soundtrack that accompanies iJewels is a delight, containing lots of soothing classical music tracks. The clinking sound effects are also well done.

iJewels isn't quite as polished as Bejeweled on the iPhone. For instance, there's no Blitz mode for playing others over Facebook, and it lacks power-ups and bonus features that would ease the repetitive nature of the game.

Nevertheless, iJewels is a well produced gem-matching game that makes for a great timewaster.

If you're a fan of crossword puzzles or other word games, 7 Little Words is a fantastic little app to take with you on the go. It'll keep you challenged and test the vocabulary prowess of even the most advanced wordsmiths out there.

Much like what Astraware Sudoku does for numbers, 7 Little Words will challenge the limits of your knowledge of different words. In each puzzle you're given seven clues with which you'll have to figure out the seven mystery words. To help you out, 7 Little Words gives you 20 letter sets. Use these number sets to spell out the mystery word based on the clues you're given. Once you think you've figured out the mystery word, click the "guess" button. If you're right, the clue will be bolded. You can guess the words in whatever order you like.

Once you've figured out all seven mystery words in 7 Little Words, you can move on to the next puzzle. The only real complaint some users might have is that the game's a little repetitive. It would've been nice if 7 Little Words had offered more than just the standard game set-up.

Avid wordsmiths will enjoy 7 Little Words though for its challenging clues and clean interface.

Gameplay in Zuma's Revenge! HD is simple. Match a minimum of three same colored balls to destroy them. Larger numbers of colored balls create bigger points and chaining into combos creates multipliers. In each of the 60 levels, you have to quickly decide where to shoot the ball before the balls reach the end.

Along with the 60 levels in Adventure mode, there are also 60 levels in Challenge mode. Zuma's Revenge! HD offers a lot of gameplay.

Zuma's Revenge! HD's control scheme has two options. You can either tap where you want the ball to hit or you can hold the screen for aim assistance. It is a simple control system that works perfectly.

At the end of each area, you have to fight one of the Tiki bosses through different means and if you fail, you have to start from the beginning.

The graphics of are very recognizable PopCap style. It has cartoon flair with impressive animations. The game centers on the action of puzzle solving so there is not a lot to see otherwise.

Zuma's Revenge! HD does become more difficult in later levels, and it is possible you may get frustrated with some of the gameplay.

Aurora Feint is an original and surprisingly addictive mixture between a Bejeweled-style puzzle and a basic RGP. Like in any other puzzle, you have to gather at least three identical tiles to make them disappear of the screen. And like in any other RPG, you create a characters, level it up, learn new skills and collect new tools as you progress along the game.

Aurora Feint takes full advantage of the iPhone's accelerometer, which means you can turn the device left, right or upside down and the pieces will be reorganized on the screen accordingly. This can be very helpful when you get stuck, as turning the iPhone to one side completely rearranges the playing area in Aurora Feint and gives you the possibility to find more appropriate tiles.

As for the roleplaying element in Aurora Feint, it's limited to learning skills and buying new tools from the game's shop, both of which will help you with the puzzle bit – by far the most addictive one. The package is complete with very elaborate graphics and a nice, sweet background soundtrack.

Aurora Feint mixes basic RPG elements with the typical yet always addictive colored tile puzzle: an original mixture that has turned out to be a real time-waster.

Legendary platypus spy Perry is trapped inside a murky labyrinth and it's your job in Where's my Perry? to get him out. There are more than 80 levels in the game, set across four worlds, and with lots of achievements and hidden items to unlock, Where's my Perry? will keep you entertained for a long time.

The gameplay in Where's my Perry? is very similar to Where's my Water? It's a physics-based puzzle game in which you need to fill a pipe with water by digging holes to create a path. Along the way you'll tackle lasers, ice sheets, jet streams and more, and you deal with increasingly complex puzzles that require lateral thinking.

Where's my Perry? is excellently presented, with lots of comedic dialog featuring characters from Phineas and Ferb. The graphics are slick and the animation of the water and other liquids is realistic.

There's nothing original in the gameplay compared to Where's my Water?, but if you're a fan of that game and you like Phineas and Ferb, Where's my Perry? is well worth downloading.
