Efficient Diary features a traditional interface design, with a folder structure on the left side to browse entries, and the right side reserved to display selected entries. It also has a rich-text editor to write your diary, which means you can apply text effects (bold, italics, colors) and insert images. However the editor fails to recognize web and email addresses like other similar tools do, and only accepts multimedia files as attachments.

With Efficient Diary you can organize your entries according to their data and also in customizable groups. The program features also a backup/restore utility with which you can easily create backup copies of your diary.

After the outbreak of blogs it might seem like no one is still keeping one of those old-style diaries in moleskin notebooks. In case you're one of the traditionalists still out there, here's a little piece of software that may be of interest.

It is also easier to use: you can have multiple tabbed pages for each day, browse through your diary with a handy calendar on the bottom bar and also search for any given text in just two clicks.

iDailyDiary supports rich text, which means you can insert bold, italics and the like, plus images, web links and other eye candy. This functionality is not perfect though. For example, the text font selection can be a bit annoying, as the drop-down menu doesn't show how each font looks like before applying it to the text. Also, images can't be properly aligned to text in iDailyDiary.

This is a fairly basic diary - it offers no integration with other calendar programs, but if you want somewhere to easy record your thoughts on a daily basis, this works quite well. The best feature of RedNotebook is its autosaving - you certainly won't accidentally lose things, as it's all saved as you go along. The main text window allows text to be formatted in bold, italic or underlined, but there are no options to change the size, font or color.

On the right is a category bar, where you can add categories, and a little infotmation to each. This is isn't linked to diary posts, rather it's another way of recording info for a particular day. The left hand bar features the calendar, and a large window for either searching your entries, or displaying a word cloud of most often used words or tags.

For personal use, ReNotebook is a reasonable free program, and with its export and backup features is quite secure. It's not really suitable for professional usage, as it is too basic, and is restricted to text only.

This application allows you to write a personal diary on your computer. In fact, you can write as many as you want and save them as separate journals, each one with its own entries. Generally speaking, we found the text editor too basic, as it doesn't even show a toolbar with editing optins. On the upside, you can insert links and images in your entries.

The program lets you publish your entries directly to your blog and includes support for the most popular blog publishing sites. As for security features, you can lock your diary to prevent unauthorized access, but be sure not to check the "remember password" option because otherwise anyone will be able to read your inner thoughts.
