M.U.G.E.N - Create your own 2D fighting games

Chances are, you’ve probably played on several games created by the M.U.G.E.N graphics engine. 2D fighting classics such as Street Fighter and Paws of Fury were originally developed on it. Today, the M.U.G.E.N engine is enjoying something of a revival due to the great old-school cartoon style characters you can create with it. Note however, that this download is for the design engine and you’ll need to be familiar with DOS programming to use it. There is one game included simply called “M.U.G.E.N” although it’s only intended as a demo to show you what you can do with it.

M.U.G.E.N is essentially a DOS based 2D graphics design engine designed by Elecbyte (now defunct) and was originally released in 1999. It allows anyone to create characters, stages and other game objects through interpreted text files, graphics and sound compilations and it also supports various types of audio formats such as MP3, ADX, OGG and MIDI for sound effects. The engine is currently setup primarily for fighting game development but several other game types have been developed using it, including shoot-em-up’s and platform games.

The official Elecbyte website has disappeared meaning M.U.G.E.N is now hosted by a developer who has renamed it “WinMugen” which is basically a hybrid of the original engine designed to work with Windows. For those familiar with programming, there are full instructions about how to use the engine in several README files contained within the download.

If you’re nostalgic about the games you played in the arcade as a kid, and are willing to learn a bit of coding to create your own, this is exactly the tool you need.

GameStudio / A6 6.31 - Easily develop 2D/3D applications

With hundreds of published titles, 3D GameStudio is the leading authoring suite for 2D and 3D realtime applications. It combines the C-Script programming language with a high-end 3D engine, a 2D engine, a physics engine, a level, terrain and model editor, plus extended libraries of 3D objects, artwork and ready-assembled games. It has never been easier to create 1st person games, 3rd person games, role playing games, side scrollers, flight simulators, board games, sports games, real-time presentations, virtual exhibitions... and 3D applications never seen before!

GameStudio is for everyone. It offers three levels of games creation:

Click together simple games from pre-assembled script templates

Program commercial games in C-Script using the built-in compiler and debugger

Include Gamestudio applications into your software using the VC++ or Delphi interface

Games authoring systems are the future of game programming. Even with no programming knowledge, by following the step-by-step tutorial a simple action game can be built in one afternoon. Using the scripting language, games of commercial quality can be created, successfully published and distributed.

AppFace UI Development Kits 2.1 - Make your apps skinable with a few lines of code

AppFace User Interface Development Kits affords a solution that detaches the art designing from software programming.

The skinning library, is a combination of many skinned controls. It can redraw all the created controls and frame windows in the target application based on the predefined scheme automatically. Each predefined scheme is a skin file. Artists create skin files by AppFace visual skin maker - Skin Tool . Programmers need load and unload the skins only. Several lines source code are enough to build a skinning application! It's so convenient to change the software style and look by switching the skin files.
