The left sidebar lets you browse the different areas covered by the program, including blocked websites, email, instant messaging and social networking. Also, the custom app blocking tool in McAfee Family Protection didn’t seem to work, as we were able to run apps that were supposedly blocked.

Traffic Inspector contains a proxy server that provides caching and blocks unwanted connections thus providing a simple but secure firewall. This is useful in preventing harmful network attacks and provides a way of accounting for all types of traffic (through the proxy server, mail gateway, NAT etc).

Setting-up Traffic Inspector is very easy thanks to a useful setup wizard. You simply have to add a server to connect to or leave it blank to connect to a local instance of the Traffic Inspector Server. With PureSight you have total control over what is allowed and what is not and how and when your kids access the internet. For example, cyber-bullying protection is a default setting, but you can choose themes and words that will also restrict chat conversations.

With iNet Protector you can restrict internet access at specified times or on demand. A more general solution is to add password protection to your connection. If you're still surfing on a modem or are worried about how much time the kids are spending online, the timer feature allows you to disable your Internet connection after a specified period of time.

Alternatively, if you don't want people surfing on your PC but don't mind them sending e-mail, you can limit which programs have access to the internet. This is particularly useful for employers who are worried about employees spending too much time surfing the net.

This is a simple but effective program which as a basic solution, works very well. It's well presented with an easy to use interface. There's not much to fault it except the fact that anyone with a bit of network experience would probably be able to circumvent or disable it.
