AutoLyrix 0.6.2-Automatically find song lyrics

http://autolyrix.en.softonic.com

AutoLyrix is a flexible little application that syncs with a variety of music players to bring you artwork and lyrics for any track you're listening to.

Th list of supported players is extensive, from iTunes and Last. fm to more obscure ones like Screamer Radio and Apollo. Upon opening, AutoLyrix will automatically show you lyrics for whatever you're listening to at the moment.

Results are found using Google, which means results are only as good as the internet. For popular music, this is no problem, but AutoLyrix will struggle to find results for wierder tracks.

If you're not happy with its results, you can click a button to go to the next search or search again.
AutoLyrix is fast loading and its results are quick too.

The presentation is very basic, though, so while AutoLyrix doesn't perform lyric finding adequately, it doesn't look pretty. Despite this, it's quite refreshing to see a program that performs a function without too many bells and whistles.

Anyone who has searched for lyrics online will know the pages offering them are often full of annoying pop-ups and dead links, so this is a great way to cut out the middle man.

Download AutoLyrix 0.6.2 in Softonic

Muso 1.4.09-A more flexible way to browse and sort your music collection

http://muso.en.softonic.com

Muso is a tool that lets users browse and sort through their music library.

It's difficult to define a program like Muso. It's not a music player, nor is it a playlist manager. Instead, it can be viewed more as an alternative way to manage and organize your music collection.

First, import your music into Muso. Users can do this by either selecting individual files or folders on their hard drive or else by selecting their iTunes or Winamp library. This will ultimately allow you to manage your collection in a far more flexible way.

Muso lets you browse complete albums or individual songs, and also sort or filter music by artist, year, rating and more. There's also an advanced tagging system many users will appreciate. Muso not only has the ability to group albums under the same artists, despite any spelling differences, it also offers support for mood tags. Also included is album artwork and artist information downloaded from Last.fm, Wikipedia and Amazon.

Note that Muso itself is not a music player, although it can be linked to third party players like iTunes and Winamp. This in may be a downside for many users who won't like the idea of needing to use two programs to enjoy their music collection. There's also no real social features that would allow users to connect with other friends using Muso.

Overall, Muso works great as an alternative interface to browse and sort your music collection, if you're willing to use a third party player to actually listen to songs.

Download Muso 1.4.09 in Softonic

Local.fm 1.4.0.4-Create Last.fm style playlists using your music library

http://local-fm.en.softonic.com

The social music website, Last.fm has become a firm favourite with music fans the world over because of the way it lets users discover music which the site deems likely to interest them. Because of this popularity, software developers have been quick to try to produce applications which make use of the website's open database - making for an interesting mixture of traditional offline and web-based software.

Local.fm is one of the more popular 3rd party applications developed to get some Last.fm style functionality on your PC. It works by scanning your music library and using the Last.fm database to create playlists of songs stored on your computer, using the 'Similar Tracks', 'Most Tagged Tracks' and 'User Tagged Tracks' queries. Enter your chosen track's details, or a Last.fm username and tag and Local.fm scans your music library to see which songs are available locally to create a playlist.

Unfortunately, while Local.fm is a novel and interesting idea, it has several downsides which limit its usefulness. Firstly, the playlist function is only compatible with Winamp or Windows Media Player, which is a great shame for iTunes users. The user interface, though not particularly complex, wasn't always completely clear and could definitely be improved by features like autofill.

The aspect of the program which needs to be changed most is its dependence on artist and track information being tagged in a way which exactly matches the Last.fm library. Even though I'd just spent a lot of time fixing the tags on my music library, I returned plenty of 'song not found' errors for tracks which are certainly present in the folders I've determined. A more fuzzy approach to song matching would probably fix this problem.

Local.fm is an interesting idea which is let down by several technical issues. While it's not perfect yet, it's definitely one to watch.

Download Local.fm 1.4.0.4 in Softonic
