The first thing that catches your attention in Wunderlist is its simple, minimalistic interface – very much like the interfaces you find in iPhone apps. This design, along with the program’s support for keyboard shortcuts and drag and drop, makes Wunderlist a pleasure to use.

Wunderlist lets you create as many tasks as you need, arrange them in custom lists, assign a date to each of them and mark the important ones with a star. The only requisite is that these tasks must be really specific, as there’s not much room for text.

ToDoList can be a great help to organize your work and become more productive. This tool enables you to create highly-detailed lists of tasks and includes all the tools and functions you need to manage your time and pending work more effectively.

One of the features of ToDoList that caught my attention was that you can select to install it as a desktop app or use it as a standalone program, saving preferences to an INI file. Also, the program has a very informative interface with clearly separated areas to display the task list, the contents of the selected task and its main characteristics, respectively.

Tasks in ToDoList are organized in a tree-like structure with support for subtasks, and can be assigned a due date and a reminder. You can also export them to several formats. On the downside, the program doesn't have support for recurring tasks.

With ToDoList you can easily improve your productivity by handling tasks in a more organized and effective way.

Doit.im is based on Adobe AIR, which makes it compatible across multiple platforms. You need to create a user account on the program's servers, which is then used to sync content online. The only problem is that this server can be down sometimes, and that renders Doit.im pretty useless.

The program features a nice, clear interface with a sidebar to navigate tasks according to different criteria, and a main area where you can see the actual list of tasks. Doit.im lets you create quick new tasks just by typing a short line on the top field, or create more elaborate tasks with title, notes, tags, due date and alarm options.

Doit.im is very easy to use, supports keyboard shortcuts for all its main functions and can really help you focus on tasks one by one – and therefore be more productive.

If you'd like to adopt the GTD method but think it's too much for you, try Doit.im instead: a light version of GTD that helps you deal with all your pending tasks in a more effective way.

Task Coach Portable is a task management app that helps you take care of to-do tasks and lists in an easy to use and intuitive way. The developer claims that Task Coach Portable grew out of his frustration that well-known task managers, such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide facilities for composite tasks. The point being, tasks and to-do lists consist of several activities, but most organizers only allow for one entry.

Task Coach Portable enables you to create, edit and delete tasks and sub tasks, which means it's much easier to see how the different parts of a master task relate to one and other. Tasks in Task Coach Portable can be labeled with a subject, description, priority, start date, due date, completion date and an optional reminder. They can also be viewed as a list or a tree and sorted by attributes, e.g. subject, budget, due date. For those working to a time schedule, Task Coach Portable also allow you to track time spent on certain jobs or tasks. All of these features mean that it's really easy to track and sort your tasks.

As useful as Task Coach Portable is, however, you can't help feeling you spend more time fiddling with the app rather than actually getting the tasks done. Then again, once you get the feel of Task Coach Portable, it's up to you to use as many - or as few - fields as you like.

As far as easy to use task schedulers go, Task Coach Portable is one of the more user friendly and intelligent out there, although maybe it's a little over the top for most people's needs.

Osmo has a somewhat primitive interface, with tabs for each one of its tools: calendar, tasks, contacts, notes and an options menu to configure the program's behavior and appearance. In a way looks like a Windows 98 app, rather than a program developed in 2009.

But maybe this simple design is what makes Osmo a really handy personal manager. It has one of the most fully featured calendars I've seen in this kind of tool, including information about days and weeks that have gone by, a date calculator, a full-year calendar and even a special version for printing.

The Task utility in Osmo is also quite useful. It enables you to sort tasks according to priorities and set alarms for them, with support for recurrent warnings. As for Contacts, each entry displays an array of fields to fill in, including birthday, personal photo and custom tags.

Osmo is a surprisingly complete personal information manager with an old-fashioned interface design.

This easy-to-use program for your PC allows you to add new items in one simple click. You can also add relatively lengthy notes to each task due to the program's larger interface. Adding specific items to a grocery shopping task, for example, does not affect its readability, which is nice.

In addition, My Checklist also allows you to choose between removing a task from the list once it's been completed and simply checking it off to indicate it's been done. For people who want to see their progress from task to task, this is a useful little feature. Once you've added tasks to your list, you can also very easily move each task up and down on your My Checklist list with a few simple clicks.

Unfortunately, My Checklist is incredibly basic. It doesn't offer the option to create time-sensitive tasks. Nor does it have a feature to create deadlines for certain tasks, which would have been useful. An option to hide the program and receive alerts when deadlines are fast approaching would also have been ideal to ensure My Checklist's optimal usability.

Still, for keeping track of basic, daily tasks, My Checklist is a good option.

Just click the new task button and you can get started in a matter of seconds. Each task allows you to choose a start and end time for the task to be completed as an option. Then, just give the task a title, set its priority level on a scale of one to ten, and give it a status. Your task's status can be listed as complete, canceled, pending, passing, paused, or in preparation. You can additionally add further, more complete details to the task if you prefer.

TodoSpec's main interface is quite user-friendly. You can organize your tasks by day, week, month, or set a custom timeframe. TodoSpec also shows you how many tasks you have to complete on a given day and lists any that have expired with red numbering. There are also a wide variety of keyboard short-cuts you can use in TodoSpec that make it even easier to add in the tasks you need to get done on a daily basis.

The one thing that would truly make TodoSpec stand out and set it apart from other like programs seems to be the one thing it doesn't have. A TodoSpec notification system for when task deadlines are approaching would have been a wonderful added feature, especially for the most forgetful among us.

TodoSpec still has great usability and is a good option for anyone who needs a little extra organizational help.

With PhiTodo you can manage and organize all your pending tasks in a beautifully designed interface. Unlike similar programs, PhiTodo is partially based on cloud computing and requires you to create a user account on the program's website. Don't worry, the account is free and lets you sync tasks between your desktop app and its online version.

PhiTodo lets you create as many tasks as you need, organize them in different categories and assign them different priorities and deadlines. You'll be able to track the time you spend on each task, as well as share them with other users. However, the task list can't be exported in any way, nor can you create recursive tasks.

Remember The Task can be the tool you need, especially if you're already a registered user of the Remember The Milk website. This Adobe Air-based tool connects with your RTM account and lets you manage pending tasks and create new ones right from your desktop.

Remember The Task features a minimalist design – just like the original RTM website – and includes all the functions available online. Some of them will open a new larger window in order to be properly displayed on desktop. Data is synchronized in real time between the website and the AIR client.

All in all, Remember The Task is a handy desktop version of RTM, though it could be easily improved by adding a few missing features, such as the possibility to minimize it to the System Tray.

With Remember The Task you can easily manage pending tasks and create new ones, as long as you have an RTM account.

uTodo is a simple task manager with a clear, clean design. It enables you to create different lists of pending tasks and organize them in several ways: by date, by priority, or according to the tags you've assigned to them. The fact that you can separate them in different lists also contributes to a better organization.

uTodo is very easy to use and has some nice extra features, such as the ability to export your task list to TXT or HTML, convert a selected task into a sticky note or automatically save your database. Also, the program can be used with the popular GTD system, as it includes a template that's been especially designed to follow the steps of this productivity methodology.

On the downside, uTodo doesn't feature a button toolbar (which could make it even easier to use) and features few options for tasks and sticky notes.

TimeGT is a complete task management application that supports popular productivity improvement methods like the ones used by David Allen (Getting Things Done) or Stephen Covey (First Things First). The program comes in two flavors: Rabbit, which is the free version, and Hedgehog, which has a €4.95 monthly fee and includes online data sync and real time backup.

The free version of TimeGT however is perfectly usable for most people, and includes everything to help you manage all sorts of tasks in a more organized, efficient way. You'll be able to create a complete entry for each task (with notes and due date), organize them in different categories and assign them diverse tags for a more comfortable browsing.

TimeGT features a nicely designed interface that makes it a pleasure to use. All the basic information is visible at a glance, with small colorful icons that let you identify the most urgent tasks immediately.

The best thing about TimeGT is that it works for everyone: those who already use a productivity method like the ones I mentioned before will find the necessary tags and tools to apply it in TimeGT, and those who don't can use the program as a standard task manager.

TimeGT is compatible with Google Calendar and can also import tasks from Remember The Milk, though it doesn't have an exporting tool to create tasks lists or any other kinds of reports. You can at least backup your data manually to a file.

TimeGT is a nice, helpful tool to improve your productivity.

With toDoo you can easily manage tasks, both professional and personal ones, under a centralized interface. toDoo lets you create new tasks (with a title, description and date for each one), sort them as New, In progress or Completed and keep track of them in separate tabs.

Being an AIR application, toDoo is very easy to install. It doesn't require any complicated configuration and is extremely light on resources. When not in use, toDoo is minimized to the system tray, from where you can open it any time.

The only criticism to toDoo, if any, is the lack of reminders to help you get your tasks done in time.

The idea behind What To Do is to create relationships between the tasks you have to do and the places you need to go in order to complete them. First you enter the tasks in the task list, then you move on to the so-called “Knowledge” area, in which you create the necessary relationships between the different errands, locations, task categories and more.

The interface in What To Do is not as attractive as other task managing tools we’ve tried, but the truth is that the program focuses more on being a useful tool – rather than offering a polished design. Then again, being such a different task manager from what we’re used to see, What To Do may only appeal to a reduced number of users.
