MAGIX Music Maker MX-An excellent but complex tool for budding recording artists

http://magix-music-maker.en.softonic.com

If you're serious about creating and recording your own songs and tracks, MAGIX Music Maker is not a bad place to start.

It includes sounds, a drum machine, synthesizer and more. With a microphone, you can import your recorded sounds too, like vocals or live instruments, to mix with your digital creations too. MAGIX Music Maker also features midi support.

The interface in MAGIX Music Maker is a little scary to start with, and novices will probably have some trouble getting into it. There are help files, and online video too, but currently they're not developed enough. Nevertheless, MAGIX Music Maker is fun to play around with.

You can quite easily get a drum beat going, and add some strange noises to it. Altering sounds is easy, as there are a variety of effects you can add. The more you explore, the more possibilities open up in MAGIX Music Maker. The problem with all of this is lack of explanation. It's a shame the demo doesn't come with preloaded examples and proper tutorials, as you are left to just mess around by yourself.

If you're looking for an in depth music maker, MAGIX Music Maker could be the answer, as it does almost everything the bedroom producer might want. Novices might find it frustrating though.

Download MAGIX Music Maker MX in Softonic

DSS DJ 5.6-Create amazing DJ sessions with your MP3s and CDs

http://dss-dj.en.softonic.com

DSS DJ is one of a new wave of audio mixing programs that has the beat-matching tools to do justice to the tracks you spin towards the dancefloor.

There was a time when mixing tracks on a PC was frowned upon within DJ circles. Couple this with the fact that the early DJ software was fairly primitive, and it seemed that a set of decks would always be the best way of whipping a crowd into a frenzy.

DSS DJ represents one of the best ways to mix records on your computer and comes with a range of professional-quality tools that help you get the most out of your set, such as bend, spin, reverse play, brake, cue support, three band equalizer with kills, and live recording.

Perhaps the main asset of DSS DJ though, is its beat-matching function, which syncs tracks with the click of a button. The auto-DJ option is also very effective, and ideal for taking breathers from a hectic session at the digital decks.

DSS DJ is very simple to get the hang of compared with most other professional DJ software, and there is very little to fault to find in the program, with the possible of exception of the conspicuous location of the record button and limited scratching capabilities.

Download DSS DJ 5.6 in Softonic

Zulu DJ 2.25-Digital music mixing tools for bedroom DJs

http://zulu-dj.en.softonic.com

Zulu DJ is a music app for PCs that lets you create your own playlists so you can try your hand at being a DJ.

Have you thought about DJ-ing but weren't sure where to start? Zulu DJ software is a functional, and simple music app that will get you started with minimal fuss.

Zulu DJ features two decks and a panel for your playlist. Users can drag and drop MP3s onto the interface and they'll be added to the playlist. Once they're in the playlist, you can drag tracks into Zulu DJ's decks. Tracks are analyzed as you load them, so when you play them you'll be told the beats per minute (bpm).

Controls on the Zulu DJ interface are pretty basic and self explanatory, meaning users shouldn't have a problem getting started. There are a couple of obvious features missing though, and the main one is that it's not possible to drag the wave display manually in order to find the exact spot you want to start a track. It's possible to select start points, but it's not very easy or accurate.

While it's too basic for professional DJs, Zulu's great for amateurs who just want to mess around. The Sync button will match your track's bpm, making smooth transitions really easy. You can also set up your own hot keys for most of the features of Zulu DJ Software. The virtual play buttons are a bit less responsive though.

Zulu DJ boasts simplicity and is a good starting point for any budding DJs out there.

Download Zulu DJ 2.25 in Softonic

MixVibes Producer 7.218-Professional DJ software

http://mixvibes.en.softonic.com

MixVibes Producer is an advanced DJ mixing application. If you're looking for an application full of features, and want to connect various turntables and devices to mix through your PC, Mixvibes is designed for you.

As well as controlling CD turntables, you can also play your music files from your HDD. It features everything a DJ would expect - cross-fader, pitch changer, some effects, equalizers and much more. You can have up to four turntables, either physical or virtual, to mix with.

The interface works in modules which can be dragged around, although this is quite clunky, and would have been better if everything automatically resized. There is no reset button either, so the layout can look quite ugly. The clunky interface fits with the program as a whole - it's complex and has many features, but it's not user friendly or accessible. Importing libraries is awkward, and MixVibes doesn't always import all meta data with tracks, which can make finding tracks in your digital collection a chore.

Despite all this, MixVibes does work very well as a DJ mixing tool. Anyone who's at all familiar with physical decks will soon feel at home using this. It's a shame that an application with so much functionality is let down by poor interface design.

It's not pretty, but MixVibes Producer is rich in features and has a great deal of depth for professional users.

Download MixVibes Producer 7.218 in Softonic

MixVibes Cross DJ 1.2.9-Create your own audio mixes

http://mixvibes-cross-dj.en.softonic.com

I've never been into the DJ world that much. If fact I've always considered it a mysterious, confusing universe – judging from the usually complicated software DJs use.

MixVibes Cross DJ is one of those tools, but it seems much easier to use than other similar DJ software I've stumbled upon during my life as software reviewer. A brighter, cleaner interface surely helps, though having some documentation would have been great for novice DJs like me.

With MixVibes Cross DJ you can mix audio files at home and produce custom music creations without needing expensive equipment: your computer will be enough. The program delivers great audio quality and features handy tools with which you can manage multiple playlists, set manual and automatic loops, sort files by multiple filters, and edit files's tags, among other possibilities.

MixVibes Cross DJ works with all popular audio formats (M4A, AIFF, WAV, MP3, FLAC and Ogg) and is also fully compatible with iTunes, meaning you can display the contents of your library right on the program's interface.

Like I said before, MixVibes Cross DJ definitely looks simpler and easier than other DJ apps, but it still lacks some hints that can help newbies get started. In any case, you may as well learn how to use it by testing all the program's buttons and knobs – it's more fun than just reading a help file!

If you've always wanted to be a DJ but didn't have the necessary equipment or tools, MixVibes Cross DJ is a good place to start.

Download MixVibes Cross DJ 1.2.9 in Softonic

http://mixvibes-3dex.en.softonic.com

You don't need to be a professional DJ to enjoy mixing music. You can do it at home, on your own computer, with the help of MixVibes.

MixVibes enables you to create your own personal music mixes on the computer. It works with the most popular file formats and includes all the tools you may need to play with your favorite music: support for loops and cues, automatic BMP detection and synchronization, sound effects in real time and more – except for music, that is.

MixVibes features a highly configurable interface that you can suit to your needs by adding or removing modules. Unfortunately this doesn't mean the program is easy to use. All those sliders, knobs and buttons may be a piece of cake for mixing experts, but novice DJs may find it quite confusing.

FutureDecks Lite 1.5.1-Mixing decks that do the hard work for you

http://futuredecks-lite.en.softonic.com

Being a DJ nowadays doesn't mean you have to have all the right equipment. Mixing can be done simply with a computer and some virtual mixing decks like FutureDecks Lite.

That doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be a good DJ though but FutureDecks makes it as easy as possible with features such as beat-matching and beat-aware loops that may have listeners wondering if you were born to spin the wheels of steel.

In fact, for the tone/beat deaf out there, FutureDecks actually mixes everything automatically if you want it to although don't expect brilliant results - the mixer applies a strict BPM matching policy which means completely different genres can be bizarrely mixed into one another. There are however lots of cool effects to keep you occupied however including the possibility to scratch records, reverse play them and of course, change the pitch.
To cue-up your next track, you'll need a pair of headphones plugged in as you can listen to the two decks over separate channels.

The layout of FutureDecks is a little intimidating at first. The developers could have done with stripping it down a bit to cater for beginners as it's aimed more at intermediate to advanced users as it is. Learning how to use it is largely a case of trail and error as there are no on screen tips to get you going or even a Help file. The preferences relate either to general settings or specific audio details and are not particularly extensive.

If you really feel lost when it comes to Djing, FutureDecks does at least allow the option of auto-mixing your playlists so you can sit back and enjoy the party. Just be sure to keep an eye on it.

Download FutureDecks Lite 1.5.1 in Softonic

E-mix basic edition 5.6.4-Basic desktop mixer for would be DJs

http://e-mix-dj-software.en.softonic.com

E-mix basic is a desktop MP3 DJ application. It can be controlled with keyboard and mouse, or with an external MIDI control.

This basic edition is still quite a complex piece of software with most of the features you'd expect on a DJ's mixer. There are two players, into which songs can be loaded and played. Tempo can be changed, and cue positions set. It's easy to import playlists, folders and libraries from your music collection, and you can build a playlist in the player too.

There are low, mid, high and gain controls, and a cross-fader, and also a tap BPM button for getting the BPM just right. Slightly odder is the jingles box, so you can play little sound effects during your DJ sets. It comes with nine ready effects, like a dog bark and car brake, which are accessible at the touch of a button.

For the careless DJ, there's an 'Autoplay' button, which means e-mix will just play through your playlist.

Without an external controller e-mix is a little awkward to use, as you really need to mix using both hands, so one mouse controlling the mixing desk is not really enough (unless you're lightning quick). The autoplay function is not very flexible - you can't set an automatic cross fade, for example.

Overall, e-mix basic is really only suitable for actual DJing, not just playing about with at home. There are more user friendly basic DJ applications, better suited to mouse control for that. For the more serious DJ, the ability to sync with a physical mixing console makes this a good way to utilize your MP3 collection for DJing purposes.

A solid basic DJ tool, but not really suitable for use with only a mouse.

Download E-mix basic edition 5.6.4 in Softonic

MixVibes Cross 1.2.5-Excellent professional DJ mixing platform

http://mixvibes-cross.en.softonic.com

If you're an aspiring DJ, then there are various options out there for you to spin the wheels of steel - or as is the case nowadays, load the MP3 files.

MixVibes Cross is clearly aimed at those that want to take things seriously and performs as a very solid DJ Platform and mixer. The appearance of MixVibes Cross is of an authentic professional mixing deck, which looks stunning, if a little intimidating for beginners. The basics are pretty easy to work out though, such as loading music and using the crossfader.

One of the useful things about MixVibes Cross is that it integrates seamlessly with iTunes. Just click on the iTunes logo in the bottom-left corner and your collection will instantly appear in the bottom window pane. You can, of course, load your own tunes for which you can edit tags, browse artwork and preview them. MixVibes Cross has a huge number of ways for browsing and finding your music so that you can locate them at crucial moments during your mixing.

You can also switch the view of MixVibes Cross, from Split view, to see which tracks you've got lined up on each side, to 'DJ Booth' view, which isolates just the mixer. MixVibes Cross still feels like an overwhelming app however, despite it's elegance and general ease of use. You'll need to spend some time getting to grips with manual to get the best out of it.

MixVibes Cross is an excellent DJing solution for any pro working across platforms or amateurs that need seamless iTunes integration.

Download MixVibes Cross 1.2.5 in Softonic
