Getting up early is hard enough so why make it even worse with the annoying beeping of a conventional alarm clock? Use College Alarm Clock instead.

With this simple tool you'll wake up to the sound of your favorite songs, videos or whatever other media files – including CDs - you set as the alarm sound. College Alarm Clock can be scheduled to go off at a different time and play a different tune every day, which is perfect if you want to sleep a bit more during the weekend.

The program features a tabbed interface – one tab for each day – that's very easy to use, but which could certainly be improved in design. However design is not College Alarm Clock's main problem: you'll need to leave your computer on all night if you want the program to wake you up.

With College Alarm Clock you can wake up with your favorite songs, as long as you don't mind leaving the PC on all night long.

Good Timing 1.92 - Flexible and customisable alarm clock

As the saying goes - Timing is Everything - and Good Timing aims to ensure that you'll get it right everytime.

It's a very simple program that allows you to configure alarms in any way that you want for every occasion. In fact, it's one of the most flexible alarms you'll find anywhere. There's nothing complicated about setting the times. You can enable several alarms to trigger at one time which is useful if you have to time different events in succession or simultaenously. Of course, it can also be used as a simple reminder tool allowing you to configure a short text warning regarding the type of event you're setting it for - whether it's food in the oven or an important meeting you have to attend. You can also scroll through the history of your alarms which is useful if you need to know at what time a recurring event is finishing it and compare it with current trends. The best thing about this alarm however is that all the sounds are completely customizable. You can use audio files, including Mp3s, as the default sound which is preferable to the ones that come with the program which are rather uninspiring.

There's nothing fancy or difficult about this alarm and it's a great solution for anyone who needs to time multiple events or a highly customisable warning system.

Alarm Clock Pro 8.4.7 - Sort your life out with this powerful desktop alarm and task scheduler

Don't be fooled by the name - Alarm Clock Pro is much more than just a flashy way of getting you out of bed on time.

Alarm Clock Pro is a fully functional organizer and scheduler that aims to ensure you never miss an important date again. As a wake-up alarm, it allows you to configure the tone as anything from an internet radio station to an MP3 and even a movie or daily task. If you don't have your PC in your bedroom that's no problem either - Alarm Clock Pro can be configured to send wake-up text messages to your cell phone.

An alternative use for the application is to have it periodically check your webcam and automatically send security screenshots to your e-mail address. This way, you can use your PC as a closed circuit TV monitoring device. In addition, you can program it to randomize the iTunes playlist, remind you of holidays and special occasions, perform system tasks, automatically send out birthday cards, text message your daily task list to a cell phone, amongst other things.

One slightly unusual aspect of Alarm Clock Pro is the ability to speak inspirational quotes at random moments throughout the day. This can be programmed to occur at virtually any specific time interval set by yourself to keep you going through the day.

An attractive interface combined with an array of different uses make Alarm Clock Pro one of the best alarm clocks around - it's just a shame it's not free.

Citrus Alarm Clock 2.0 - Wake-up in style with your computer

Alarms - you either love 'em or you hate 'em depending on what it means. If it means getting up for work, then chances are it's not your favourite sound but it doesn't have to be as painful as an annoying high pitched tone.

Citrus Alarm Clock is a simple but elegant alarm clock designed for those that want to wake up in style via their PC. It's much more advanced than a normal alarm clock and it gives you many more options over how you'd like to wake-up. The program is operated via a simple interface which allows you to set as many different alarms as you like using your existing media player. It therefore supports as many media formats as your player does which makes it pretty flexible in what tone, music or noise you choose to wake up to. You can even wake up to visual images of you want by setting it to play your TV Tuner or favourite show saved on your hard drive.

So that whatever you choose doesn't wake you too harshly, it features a gentle fade-in function to wake you up gently or you can choose to listen to it into your sleep up to a certain time when it will automatically mute until it starts again when you have to wake up. In this latest version, the developer had added a number of cool new features too including a snooze feature and a much more attractive and intuitive GUI.

Simple to use, powerful and completely free, this program could make those early starts just that little bit less painful.

Some people like to have absolute control over the way they spend time. Some other people simply have to, because their wages depend on the amount of hours they work.

In either case, ManicTime is a very useful application to control how and where you spend time while sitting in front of a computer. This program sits unobtrusively in the system tray and keeps track of absolutely anything you do with your PC: websites you open, e-mails you send, documents you write, etc. It doesn’t record what you actually write or read; it just controls the applications you use and the time you spend on each one of them.

With all the collected data, ManicTime generates nice, colorful timelines and charts with which you can have an accurate view of how you spend your time, either if it's for work reasons, because you want to put an end to your procrastination habit or just for fun. You can browse the list of activities, filter it to search for a certain element and also tag the information to make it easier to handle. It's a pity the program doesn't include an option to export data to other formats and create reports with it.

If you need to track the time you spend on the computer, be it for works reasons or just for curiosity, ManicTime is the tool you need.

If you're forever adjusting your clock or worried about whether it's showing the exact correct time, then this could be the answer for you.

SymmTime synchronizes your PC clock to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) - in other words, the atomic clock which is the World standard by which all clocks are set. Windows can sometimes gain and lose time, especially in older machines, and SymmTime ensures that you’ll never have to manually set the time ever again. SymmTime works by automatically synchronizing your system clock through via any accessible NTP server. The program allows you to set as many time zones as you need and You can set as many time zones as you need, and change them anytime you want which is extremely useful for those on the move. For instance you'll never miss another international conference call on the move because you can set up a conference call at any time in any country. In addition, you can choose from an Analog (with clock face and hands) or digital clock face in 24-hour or AM/PM format.

For those on the move, this is a much better solution than constantly resetting your clock manually.

With WatchMe you can track the time it takes you to complete a task. The interface is very simple and there are no advanced features. Simply write a note that reminds you what you are taking the time for, something like “writing this review” then press the start button and the clock starts to register the time that passes. You can track different tasks at the same time, pause and re-enable or reset the counter.

It would have been good to have the possibility to export the final results to a printable document like Excel, in order to keep a record to see daily improvements. The application does what it says and nothing more. It’s useful, but they could have developed some features to give more meaning to the results and to compare previous day’s result for the same task.

Chameleon Clock 5.1 - Transform your Windows System Tray with skins

If you're tired of Windows standard gray clock, use Chameleon Clock and spice it up!

This easy app enables you to customize Windows clock by applying a dozen different skins, besides improving its basic functions and adding some new ones. I personally found some skins to be a bit excessive, especially in terms of the space they take in the taskbar. This means that if you want to keep the clock within reasonable limits, you probably have to tell Chameleon Clock not to display date.

As for the extra functionality, it turns Windows standard clock into a really useful tool: not only does it tell you the date and time, but can also handle your pending tasks and quick notes in a full featured calendar you can see just by hovering your mouse over the clock.

What's more, you can schedule quick reminders and alarms, use it as a stopwatch and also make sure your PC is on time thanks to its direct connection to several atomic time servers on the Web.

Chameleon Clock brings Windows clock to life with new handy functions and a handful of skins, although some of them are a bit tacky and take way too much space.

It features extra functionality such as an alarm system and can be customized with literally hundreds of different skins. ClocX can be configured to stay on top of other apps or be pinned to desktop, providing you with a nicer and more comfortable way to check time.

As stated before, ClocX includes a handful of skins to change the clock's appearance, although many of them are simple color variations of the same skin. Other visual tweakings are transparency and size. The alarm tool is perfect for setting up small reminders and can even be programmed to trigger an action like playing audio o video, launching an application or shutting down the PC. The program also features a calendar but this one doesn't have support for planning tasks.

Finally, Clocx will apparently support external plug-ins but this feature is unfortunately still under development, as you can tell from the program's configuration menu.

A fully customizable clock with interesting extra features, although not as developed as they should be.

iTimeSync 1.304 - Ensure you've got the right time all the time

The accuracy of your PCs clocks is important for many reasons, but keeping it that way can be a chore. iTimeSync does the job for you by contacting one of many NIST time servers over the internet. No configuration is needed, simply connect to the internet, run the program and press "Correct". iTimeSync can also be set to automatically synchronize any minute / hour / day period and it supports both the RFC-868 (TIME) and the RFC-2030 (SNTP) protocols. While servers names are included, this list can be easily changed, for example, to servers that are closer to your locality or to a local server on your LAN.

iTimeSync can even sync from another iTimeSync as it can be used as a TIME server over a LAN. Other features include detailed logging, auto advance to another server if the selected one fails, auto start, minimize to tray, check without change, correct only minutes and seconds mode, variable time-out, max/min times, and a positive or negative time offset can be set if you are in a obscure time zone or if you like your clock to be fast or slow.

Windows Elapsed Running Time 1.20 - How long have you been on your PC?

Do you ever get so hooked on your PC that you lose track of time? Windows Elapsed Running Time is a small utility that shows the time elapsed since Windows was started. It can stay resident in the system tray and works with Windows 9x/Me/2000/XP.

You can display the timer next to the Windows clock in the system tray or in its own standalone box if you wish. It allows you to choose the time in hours, or if you're really hardcore, in days. The latest release now features full support of Windows XP themes and has now cleared up bugs that made it show a negative value after 25 days of elapsed running time.

If you've got children and want to limit their PC use or if you really don't trust yourself in front of a PC, this is a useful program but other than that, it does nothing that Windows clock or a simple stopwatch can't do for you.

Timer 1.1 - A simple to use chronometer

This application is a no-fuss timer to user when you need to count the time. The concise interface makes it easy to set hours, minutes and seconds. You can also activate tick and alarm sounds to notify you when the time is up. Thanks to the up and down arrows it's really easy to add or remove time. We also liked the fact that you can open up as many timers as you want, however try not to get confused as to which alarm is for what?

Users will appreciate the simplicity of the application, making it great for any use and keeping it discreet on your desktop. The only little thing we could complain about is the fact that there's only one alarm sound. To recognize multiple alarms, it would have been best to offer a choice of sounds.
