If the player you've been using until now is iTunes you already know how to use Media Jukebox, because the program resembles the Apple media player both in appearance and functionality. And if not, the learning curve won't take long thanks to Media Jukebox's intuitive design.

Like I said this program looks like iTunes a lot. On the one hand I wonder if this is going beyond any legal limits - as regards plagiarism. On the other hand, it makes Media Player very familiar and easy to use. Resemblances aside, the program features just about anything you would ask for in a full featured music player: from a library manager with which to organize your music collection to an embedded player, including a tag editor, a CD ripping tool, a CD burning tool and support for online podcasts, album art cover display and handheld music device synchronization.

Media Jukebox features a sleek dark interface organized in several areas and some extra details that add a spicy taste like the different 3D effects you can apply to the album cover art, the great smart playlist creation tool or the ability to download plug-ins from the developer's site to improve or add new functions to the program.

Summing up, J. River Media Jukebox is an excellent media suite where you'll find all the tools you'll ever need to organize, manage and enjoy your favorite music.

This little app does a good job of organizing and playing your music. BBox features a clean, skinnable interface and divides its main features - Music Library, CD Player, Internet Radio and Visualization - into easily accessible tabs across the bottom of the main window.

BBox also has a number of very useful features - a good tag editor, playlist creator and file ripper/converter. The audio quality is high and there are a number of configuration options - for both the player and your music - that you can modify to your liking.

There is, however, one major problem with BBox. There is no getting started guide and no offline help. This makes it pretty difficult to find your way around at first, and really increases the likelihood of missing an interesting feature. Our advice is to have a good look at the features online here before starting to use BBox, because other than that, it's an excellent alternative to other music management systems.

It's a bit difficult to get started with BBox, but once you do, you'll be glad you made the effort.

Visually the player is a little mixed. The now playing top panel is a great looking LED style display, which is fully color customizable. The wave display is pretty but a little pointless, as you can't do anything with it.

Below, there are three windows, one to display scanned folders, one for playlists and another for the current playlist. These are much less pretty. You can search for music folders which Universal JukeBox will play from, create playlists, toggle play modes and search your library for tracks.

The options menu is long, and has some nice features, like cross fading and a hot key setup.

You can't drag and drop files and folders into Universal Jukebox, which is a shame, as the search and scan functions are really efficient. There is also no equalizer, which will disappoint some users.

The most unusual feature of Universal Jukebox is 'Party Mode'. It's impossible to skip tracks in Party Mode, just search for and select upcoming tracks, kind of like a real jukebox. This could be a nice way to play music at a party.

Overall, Universal Jukebox is a quirky music player. It is not as intuitive as the competition, and is unlikely to become your main player, but the efficient search and JukeBox like features make it an interesting option.
