PDF is a great format to share documents regardless of the operating system you use. But if what you really need is doing some work on your PDF files, then PDF Split and Merge may be useful for you.

As its name clearly states, PDF Split and Merge lets you split and merge any PDF documents in a very easy way and in just a few steps. The program has one main drawback though and that is its unfriendly interface, which takes a while to get used to. After that, PDF Split and Merge is really a helpful tool.

You'll be able to split PDF documents – with several configuration options to choose from – as well as joining several of them together in one single file. PDF Split and Merge works quickly and efficiently, getting the job done in almost no time.

Despite a counterintuitive interface, PDF Split and Merge is a great tool to split and merge PDF files in just a few seconds.

HJSplit 2.3 - Easily split and join large files

Since time immemorial, computer users have had problems sharing large files. Whether trying to fit Sim City on floppy disks, uploading binaries to newsgroups or sharing home movies via email, you may well have suffered the inconvenience of a file that's just too big for what you're trying to do.

This is where HJSplit comes in. It's a remarkably simple and easy-to-use little application which can split any file you like into parts of a predefined size, so that sharing them or storing them is made easier. It can also join split files back together and compare parts to see if they're the same.

Based in just one small executable (there's no installer for this old school app!), the utility weighs in at a piffling 300kb and doesn't have the world's best design. But it works surprisingly well and splits files into chunks of your chosen size, very quickly indeed. Its joining, comparing and MD5 tools all work just as efficiently.

A small but very effective little utility which will split and rejoin any file you like.

The Fastest File Splitter and Joiner 3.2 - Break large files into smaller segments

In these days of gargantuan file sizes, it can sometimes take an age to transfer files around due to their size. Despite it's rather arrogant-sounding name, The Fastest File Splitter and Joiner is great for chopping data into handy bite-sized chunks (that's 'bite' with an 'i' for the purposes of those who thought I just made a spelling boo-boo).

It's perfect for stuff like backing up lots of data to DVD because it lets you quickly divide files into smaller sizes. You simply specify the size of the file and the location you wish to save it to then you can optionally assign a password. Once this is done, a single mouse-click will see all of the data magically divided. Joining up the data again is equally straightforward, and if the password-protection has been enabled you'll need to enter this to proceed with the operation. For added convenience, all of the options within the program are available from a right-click context menu.

Although it's very fast, I can't prove that The Fastest File Splitter and Joiner actually lives up to its name. However, what I do know is that it provides a simple way of breaking large amounts of data into smaller pieces.

GSplit 2.1.0 - Divide files into more manageable chunks and combine them automatically

Welcome to GSplit! This application is a free original file splitter that lets you split your large files (like Self-Extracting, Zip archives, multimedia, song, music, movie, backup, picture, archive, document files...) into a set of smaller files called pieces.

Distribute your files safely: GSplit uses three methods to check the integrity of the restored file: file size, offset and CRC32. Checks are very fast and efficient: when uniting a file, if a piece file is corrupted, GSplit will indicate you which one. So you can grab a new copy of this piece and not the entire set of pieces!
