GetDataBack will recover your data if the hard drive's partition table, boot record, FAT/MTF or root directory are lost or damaged, data lost due to a virus attack, the drive was formatted, fdisk has been run, a power failure has caused a system crash, files were lost due to a software failure, files were accidentally deleted.

GetDataBack can even recover your data when the drive is no longer recognized by Windows. It can likewise be used even if all directory information - not just the root directory- is missing.

The software enables the regular user to conduct his own data recovery by guiding him through five easy to understand steps, thus gives the advanced user the possibility to interfere with the recovery and improve the results, by examining the scan log, the file system details, file and directory information, by selecting the sector range to be scanned, by choosing excessive search for file systems or search for lost files, by calling Runtime's DiskExplorer.

Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery 2.0.1 - Recover data from NTFS drives

We all know that computers are not infallible and that disaster can strike at any time. Programs such as Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery are designed to help limit the damage to your productivity.

Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery lets you recover data from NTFS, NTFS5, drives and also boasts support for recovering data from dynamic drives created on NT/2000/XP/2003 platforms. So if you've accidentally deleted files or folders you need, formatted a drive by mistake, have corrupted partition tables, or if you've managed to delete partitions, Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery will chase away your nightmares.

Using Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery is surprisingly straightforward thanks to its wizard-based user interface. You're given a series of options to either Recover your data, Recover data from a disk image, Clone a disk, or create a new disk image. With all of these Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery guides you through the recovery process step-by-step, so you can operate it without any in-depth knowledge of disk drives.

As you might have guessed from the name, unfortunately Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery only recovers NTFS data, so you'll need a separate application if you want to restore data from a FAT drive. Nevertheless, the inclusion of a File Tracer tool to hunt for specific missing files, makes Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery one of the most comprehensive and easy-to-use NTFS recovery apps around.

If you've suffered the agony of losing data then Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery is a wise choice to relieve your worries.

We've all had the horrible feeling of deleting an important file by mistake. But you don't have to resign yourself to losing it forever thanks to Disk Doctors Undelete.

Disk Doctors Undelete is designed to recover data from hard drives, flash drives, USB drives, ZIP, SD Cards, MMC, and Firewire drives. The disk scanning technology within Disk Doctors Undelete allows it to perform deep scans to rescue important files from both FAT and NTFS file systems.

Thanks to the wizard-based interface, you can start scanning with Disk Doctors Undelete quickly and easily. You simply select the logical drive you want to recover data from, 'Next' and the program will return a list of files that have been deleted from your PC. This is displayed in tree structure format, and you can highlight any of the files or folders to peruse them. There's also a search tool that lets you enter a filename or partial filename to search for.

Unfortunately, the files I deleted in my tests weren't picked up by Disk Doctors Undelete. This could be that I wasn't searching in the right directory, but navigation in the tree structure view can become quite confusing.

Disk Doctors Undelete is an interesting and potentially powerful app, slightly let down by the poor searching interface.

One of the worst moments you can live as a computer user is realizing you just deleted your most precious photos from the hard drive by accident. Don't worry, it has happened to all of us at some point.

In any case, before you start banging your head against your desk, try using UndeleteMyFiles and see if you can recover your important files. This tool analyzes your hard drive and finds any file that's suitable for recovering, even if you've already emptied the Recycle Bin.

Bear in mind though that this suitability depends on many factors, such as how much time has passed since you deleted the files and how much you've been using the computer, but as long there's a chance, there's hope.

UndeleteMyFiles is very easy to use and works not only with hard drives, but also with removable drives. Plus, it includes some file management extra features such as a file wiper, a disk imaging tool and an email recovery tool, among others.

With UndeleteMyFiles there's still a chance to recover those mistakenly deleted files, either from your hard drive or from any other removable media.

R-Studio Data Recovery 4.2.127464 - Recover files that are lost or accidentally deleted

It has happened to us all. We've lost or deleted a file at some stage that was really important. Of course, nowadays, with so many external backup options there is less chance it's going to happen but if it does, there is still hope. R-Studio Data Recovery, although sounding like a music program, actually helps you recover lost or accidentally deleted files. It's not a sure-fire solution but it can help depending on the type of file you've deleted.

When R-Studio Demo version has found a lost file larger than 64KB you may simply double click the file to preview it. However, in this demo version, if you want to open it you'll need to register the software to obtain the R-Studio registration key. However, if you have enough disk space on any additional hard drive or on an alternative media the developers recommend that you create an image of the recognized partition where the lost files were found, because Windows OS constantly writes some information on disks and there is a risk that the sectors where the deleted files reside may be overwritten. According to them, "If that happens, the files still may be found, but may contain incorrect data or cannot be found at all." They assure however that the created image can be processed the same way as the original partition. The program supports a wide range of drives including dynamic disk and RAID drives. It's also able to recover encrypted and compressed files so if your lost file was zipped-up, there's still a chance you can recover it. For those who know how to edit MFT file records and MBR/LDM structures, they can be viewed and edited in the program's accompanying disk hex editor.

The program makers do issue one serious word of warning however - never try to write the image file or recovered deleted files to the same disk where the files reside or you may lose the data on your disk.

R-Studio can't guarantee to rescue all files but it's definitely worth a shot if the worst has happened.

Pandora Recovery 1.3.7 - Recovers files even if they have been permanently removed

You'd be forgiven for thinking that Pandora Recovery is associated with the Pandora Genome music project but in actual fact, this utility has nothing to do with music.

It's quite simply, a file restoration utility that attempts to help you when you've accidentally deleted a file. Pandora Recovery can recover files permanently from the Recycle Bin simply by using the Shift + Delete keys bypassing. What's more, it can recover files that were deleted, according to the developers, up to a month after they were deleted. However, it's very unlikely you'll be able to recover something that's been deleted so long ago because a file "deterioration" (although the developers claim users have been able to recover files 5 years after deletion!).

This may all sound a bit far fetched although when you delete a file on a FAT32 or NTFS file system, its content is not totally erased from disk. Only the reference to file data in File Allocation Table or Master File Table is marked as deleted which means that sometimes you can make it visible again. The types of file you can recover are quite wide ranging including pictures, songs, movies and documents. Note though that you have a much greater chance of recovering data lost after the program has been installed because it scans your hard drive and builds an index of existing and deleted files and directories (folders). This gives you much greater control over which files to recover.

There are no guarantees that Pandora Recovery can help you restore accidentally deleted data but if there is any trace of it left, Pandora should be able to give it a damned good go.

DataRecovery could be the key that lets you undelete files that have been deleted by accident. This application is able to analyze your hard-drive (supports FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS) and locate files that have been deleted, offering you the option to undelete them.

How is this possible? Simple: because Windows doesn't actually delete files without overwriting the part of the physical disk where the file was located. With this program, retrieving deleted files will not always be possible, but it may just be enough to get what you want.

Scan your hard disk or any logical drive for inaccessible or deleted file. Stellar Phoenix File Recovery deeply scans selected drives and shows you the list of files it finds divided into category types. There are around 300 file types the program can recognise and attribute to the correspondening category, such as BMP, JPEG and WMA.

Double click on the device you want to scan and select the first option available: Standard scan. It takes a while to check over a whole hard disk and I suggest you of leaving it run until it has completely finished, otherwise you may have problems when trying to run it for a second time. You may receive the following message ‘critical data structures are badly corrupted for this drive’ which will block you from proceeding.

The result you get is a list of files divided by extension type. Unfortunately, there is no name, apart from sequential numbers, to help you remember what they were, and the preview function just gives you a succession hexadecimal figures. Nevertheless, you can easily restore these files with a few clicks of the mouse.

Restore deleted files on your hard disk or USB pen with Stellar Phoenix Deleted File Recovery. Let it scan completely your logical drive the first time you run it and select the filesyou would like to have access to again.

Durable Copy 3.5.1 - Copy the files containing bad sectors

Have you ever suffered an unreadable hard drive and subsequently lost essential files that were stored on that sector?

If so, Durable Copy lets you rescue such files by allowing you to copy those containing unreadable sectors. This can be useful in a wide range of circumstances from those instances when you need to rescue critical system files to simply a movie that you desperately want to see but can no longer view. The problem however is that many programs, such as Word or Excel, won't read files that have been rescued because they are physically damaged but at least you are able to rescue the files for repairing later. Using the program is very simple. In the program's explorer window, you simply browse to and right click on those files you want to rescue. You drag them to the target folder you want to save them to. You'll see the option "Copy with DurableCopy" and the program will kick into action to see if it can rescue the broken sectors. Durable Copy reads various sectors sequentially until you click "Don't read this file" on those sectors that are too badly damaged. In the end, what you will have is a partially recovered file which is better than nothing at all.

This program will not rescue files in badly damaged hard drives but it's the next best thing to a complete recovery solution for corrupted files.

Word Repair 1.0.0.49 - Recover damaged Word files

If you've been working on a Word document for a long time then it's a nightmare when it suddenly corrupts or won't open.

The reasons for this are numerous and usually it's not your fault. If you've ever received any of the following messages then you'll know what I'm talking about: "The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions. Check the file permissions for the document or drive. Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document."; "Word cannot open the document."; "Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges."; "When you attempt to open a Microsoft Word 97 document into Microsoft Word version 6.x or 7.x, the document contains garbage characters." Repair My Word can come to the rescue if you've suffered any of these error messages and has the ability to repair Microsoft Word 6.0, Word 95, 97, 2000, XP, and 2003 for Windows. To use it, you simply open the corrupt Word file, preview the recoverable text in the preview window and save this text to a new error free Word file. However, don't expect miracles from this software because it doesn't work in all cases and in addition, even if it can, the rescued document is often a jumbled mess of words of symbols.

If you've ever lost a Word document to corruption or file error, then this is definitely worth a try.

Glary Undelete 1.3 - Recover files deleted by accident

Deleting a file by mistake is one of those stupid accidents you feel ashamed of explaining to others, like locking yourself out of home or having to pay extra because you forgot your season ticket.

In the case of deleted files however, don't worry because there's a solution. It's called Glary Undelete (yes, the same guys who created Glary Utilities) and it can help you recover any file you've accidentally deleted from your system, even if you have already emptied the Recycle bin.

That said, bear in mind that this kind of software apps must be used with caution, in the sense that they are not magical tools that will recover your files no matter how much time has passed since you delete them. There are other factors that influence the percentage of success in file recovery in addition to time, like drive usage and cluster movement. But if you use Glary Undelete right after the "accident" occurs, chances are you'll be able to recover your files without any problems – and without anybody noticing it.

The program scans the selected drive, among which you can include removable devices, and displays a list with all deleted files along with their recovery status. You can also use filters to refine this search or look for specific files, which comes in really handy as the list is sometimes too long.

Did you just erase a file by accident? Don't worry: Glary Undelete can help you recover it.
