It's useful to have the weather forecasts always available in a desktop application. WeatherMate is simple but effective and lets you choose different cities for which you would like to know the weather forecasts. They can all be present at the same time in different tabs, and an icon with a short description will tell you whether the next day it will be better to have an umbrella or not.

The program uses the information provided by The Weather Channel, which has been monitoring the World's weather since 1982. In the option menu, you can choose to display a radar image of the places you have selected and to have a detailed description of the current conditions. Switch between Fahrenheit or Celsius or select the 'speak the weather' tool to have the near-term forecast read by a voice of which you can select volume, pitch and speed. The design is sufficiently clear, although no effort has been made to render the application particularly pleasant.

With WeatherMate you can monitor the weather of cities of your interest and get predictions for the coming days, up to a week. It's not possible to have information about the pollution level and the UV index though, which would have been very useful information.

You can track a moving storm & weather patterns via satellite & radar although this can be painfully slow at updating. Naturally, you can also view daily and detailed forecasts, local time and date for any location worldwide, plus alerts for severe weather. To search, just enter the city and country and the program does the rest.

It's certainly a comprehensive weather tool - apart from all the aforementioned features, it also shows other information such as wind speed and direction, humidity and visibility, as well as a five-day forecast graphic with the maximum and minimum temperature. It would have been much better if the program was based on webcams pointing at the sky in each country because in reality, what you are seeing is a computer generated impression of what it should look like based on weather readings.

However, this is an attractive and detailed weather forecasts and tracker that provides all the info you'll need about any major location worldwide.

Global Weather 3D is probably one of the most visually appealing weather forecast tools you've ever seen.

Instead of displaying the usual geographic map with weather symbols, the program makes use of an attractive three-dimensional Earth globe to show the current position of clouds on our planet, plus marking their density with a color code. The globe is fully animated, meaning you can zoom in and out and also rotate and flip it with your mouse. The zoom tool though is not very powerful and doesn't allow you to go much into detail.

Global Weather 3D features a quite complete configuration menu which enables you to enable certain tools such as displaying geographical textures, showing day and night zones or adding countries' names and boundaries, among other options. On the downside, the program asked me to register when I tried to create customized waypoints, something I found especially disappointing after seeing the program labeled as freeware all the time.

I’ve always wanted to dance salsa as it is funand stress-free, but I find excuses all the time for not actually doing it. Surely not knowing any of the dance steps is a valid justification. For all shy people who won’t attend a course because they feel clumsy, Salsaroc Salsa Shines offers some help.

With this application you have several salsa figures and a series of steps, of increasing difficulty. The graphics are rather crude and not really appealing, but in this case it’s the content that matters. What I’ve found extremely useful is the slow motion function, which allows you to see the steps in smooth, slow movements. This is something you wouldn’t even get from a face-to-face class and it’s the real advantage of having a course on your PC.

When attending courses, you might find difficult to understand where exactly to place the feet because teacher does it in front of you at his normal speed. In this application the teacher instead emulates your position, meaning he dances with his back to you, so that if he moves the left foot, you don’t have to think about which foot you have to move. It’s simply the left one! I know this may sound silly, but when figures get complicated I can assure you it eases things a lot. With the slow motion, finally you can see exactly where you have to place your feet, saving you from bad figures and your partner from bruises.

In order to get new lessons you need to go in the main menu and register your program, following the on-screen instructions. A full-screen mode is also available, but it doesn’t add much to the smaller frame view.

The good aspect of having a piece of software instead of a human being teaching you Yoga, would be that you can watch and re-watch movements again and again.What’s more, you can read clear explanations, and get a tailored exercise plan based on your physical characteristics, which is important to define the most useful exercises for you.

This is what Yoga trainer does, or what it’s meant to do anyway. When you run the software for the first time in fact, you have to answer a questionnaire about your habits at work and in your private life. Whether you feel stressed, tired, angry, sleepy, if you dream while sleeping, if you have frequent headaches or if you often wake up during the night, these are all important factors to determine the most suitable yoga exercises you should practice.

Unfortunately in the demo version is not possible to really see whether this application will be useful or not. Surely after the test, you have a list of exercise to do. From what I could see, when clicking on the exercises of relaxation, breathing and asanas, what you get is a voice guiding you and just one image. It would have been much more useful to have an animation explaining you how to move correctly. Just having an audio file, which is pretty unclear at times, is a bit of a limitation.

If you want to know more about Yoga, especially the theory behind exercises, have a look at Yoga trainer. It’s good to have a tailored exercise plan based on your behaviour and habits. Unfortunately, because of the application’s poor usability, I’m not sure you’ll get a lot more than this.

If you would like to know more about what yoga is, you can download this application which, although not very comprehensive, will provide an introduction to the discipline. You can get information about yoga traditions, instruction, articles, asanas, which are body position, and the sun salutation via the six chapters on the left side of the main frame.

The navigation of this e-book is not extremely pleasant, but I liked the idea of the progressive photos to explain how to properly execute the sun salutation. It would have been good to have the same type of images for all the asanas named in the previous chapter.

You may as well have a look at your Metabolic Syndrome by going into more detail, such as the fasting blood glucose, waist circumference and finally entering your blood pressure. The software also gives you some indication about the Vegetarian, Asian, Mediterranean and USDA diets, together with Diet Pyramids and a Glycemic Index of common food items.

This of course should not substitute a visit to your doctor in case of serious diet problems, but it can help you to have an idea of what is a balanced diet and how many calories we should have on a daily basis.
