Free Video Cutter is a tiny program does exactly what is says, with no frills or extras. It can import and export MPEG4, DivX, WMV, MOV, FLV or MP3 formats (including conversions), with minimal fuss.

Simply open a video file, wait for it to load and then choose the part of the video you want using the markers. The precision of the crop depends on your Free Video Cutter import options - the higher the precision the longer it takes to import, but the more accurately you can edit.

Free Video Cutter has very few options - you can choose the output format, but there are no quality settings. There is also no sound in Free Video Cutter, so you have to make your cut just using images. Sound will be kept for your edited video, you just can't hear it in the app itself. Ironically, you can set the output to MP3 and convert the sound from your video!

Free Video Cutter would be improved if you could import DVDs too, but is nevertheless a very easy to use program ideal for cutting video for YouTube etc.

The Movica developers have attempted to make this as simple as possible by creating tons of desktop shortcuts. In a nutshell, Movica allows you to select or delete multiple portions from a video file, copy, paste and fine tune the selections and join them together.

Once the selections are made, you can refine them by using a slider which appears at the bottom. The resulting output image from the converting engine is shown in the 'Trace' window which will also display a simple 'Success' or 'Failure' message. The problem is that sometimes the "Failure" message will appear when the cut has been a success, so check the files first before taking Movica's warnings too seriously.

Movica is a simple, open-source app for basic editing and splitting of less usual formats.

Once you load the video file, Easy Video Splitter lets you split it either manually - picking the sizes yourself - or automatically. You can limit the split parts according to size, length or number of clips, so you're sure to get the size you want.

Easy Video Splitter has a preview window, so you can also use the slider bar to decide where the file is cut without losing any of the important information. This also makes it easy to crop videos, rather than split them up.

This little app is easy to use and quick when it comes to processing. Major pluses are the fact that it has no problems dealing with especially big files, and you can queue videos to split in batches. Even so, Easy Video Splitter isn't very advanced, and many users will want more options than this app offers.
