iStar Karaoke 1.5.5-Dubious karaoke app for Mac

http://istar-karaoke.en.softonic.com/mac

You don't need SingStar to have a great time on karaoke at home. If you've got a Mac, iStar Karaoke is an easy option although you may experience rather mixed results with it.

iStar Karaoke can import almost anything including CD+G, KAR, AIFF, and MP3 files so you're not restricted to buying expensive CDs like you are with SingStar. Once you've imported your tunes, you can compile a playlist based on genre such as love, party, birthdays and whatever other occasion you may be limbering up for. Importing from a CD is easy but the problem is that you need a CD+G compatible drive of which there aren't many according to the developers website. If you do have one, simply insert a CD and click on the iStar Karaoke import icon. The problem with other formats is that sometimes it fails to import those that it's supposed to support which many users have also complained about.

There are other shortcomings too that may make you think twice before upgrading. For example, the lyrics often don't refresh in time to the tunes suggesting they are synced very badly and there's no way to switch it to full screen mode - not very good for parties where you want to connect a TV. Some users suggest that these shortcomings mean that a cheaper alternative, such as QMIDI, is a better option overall.

iStar Karaoke is a passable karaoke program for anyone that's looking for a simple solution although it's many shortcomings mean that it's got a long way to go.

Download iStar Karaoke 1.5.5 in Softonic

Simple Comic 1.7b252-Enjoys your comics on your Mac

http://simple-comic.en.softonic.com/mac

Simple Comic looks to simplify reading comics on your Mac. We like the simple interface of the application and how easy it is to navigate between pages.

Once you've opened up the comic you want to read you can have it centered and show two pages at once. There's a scrollbar at the bottom of the interface to browse through pages.

It shows thumbnails of pages to avoid you having to go back and forth in your comic.
Simple Comic lets you create sessions for the different comics that you read and remembers how far you've gotten in each of them.

Luckily, the program supports most comic book formats you find on the Internet so you'll be able to enjoy the most popular comics.
Although the program lacks a little tutorial to get you started, once you've opened up your comic you'll see Simple Comic is pretty straightforward to use.

Download Simple Comic 1.7b252 in Softonic

SeisMac 2.0-Turn your Mac into a seismograph

http://seismac.en.softonic.com/mac

Scientists studying earthquakes and seismic conditions should find SeisMac of great utility. The application uses your Mac's Sudden Motion Sensor to record seismic activity on a graph continuously.

SeisMac is easy to run and comes with test data so you can try it out even if you don't have Sudden Motion Sensor. Recording can be paused anytime and you can stretch out or compress the graph. Time is also clocked, so you can reference in time any seismic activity. Going into preferences you'll see you can set both sample rate and buffer via slider bars.

My only doubt with SeisMac is how sensible it is to movement. You will have to make sure your Mac is in a stable area and that nothing affects the recording so that the graphs display proper results. The application should result extremely useful if you live in a region previously hit by earthquakes like Mexico, Portugal or Japan.

SeisMac comes in very handy to record seismic activity straight from your Mac.

Download SeisMac 2.0 in Softonic

CatNip 2.2-Protect your Mac from felines

http://catnip.en.softonic.com/mac

CatNip protects your Mac from your cat. It will automatically block the keyboard when it senses a cat walking on it.

If you have a feline friend at home, you know exactly what it's like. Every now and then your cat will happen to jump onto your keyboard (as if not on purpose!). If your Mac is turned on and you have some documents open this can be particularly annoying. You can have your Mac automatically lock or use CatNip for a more playful way of protecting your Mac from your cat.

You can set different alerts on CatNip: a beep, a display message or have the desktop fade out. Also make sure you adjust the sensitivity, so that CatNip does actually activate itself when your cat pounces on your keyboard. So CatNip only offers limited features, but at least it gives you a choice of three different alerts.

CatNip is an application for Mac OS X which can alert you and block your Mac, when your cat jumps on the keyboard.

Download CatNip 2.2 in Softonic

freeComics Widget 1.5-Dilbert, Peanuts and more delivered to your dashboard

http://freecomics.en.softonic.com/mac

If you're a big Dilbert or Peanuts fan or just need a cartoon chuckle to get you through the day then take a look at freeComics Widget.

freeComics Widget is an excellent little dashboard addition that features comic strips from all the major names such as Dilbert, Peanuts, Andy Capp, and Calvin & Hobbes. Once installed, you can cycle through them using the 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons. If you want to change the author of the comic strip, just click on the drop down menu and you'll be given a choice of 150 to choose from, so you won't get bored easily.

freeComics Widget is a superb dashboard app, especially considering it's free, but it is rather slow to respond to commands. When you try to cycle through the comic strips, it takes at least a few seconds to respond, leaving you to believe that it's not working. However, eventually it will kick into action so bear with it. There are no customization options either. It would have been nice to have had an email or send-to-a-friend option to share the funniest clips and also possibly a random selector which chooses strips for you.

All in all however, you can't complain much as freeComics for getting some of the highest quality cartoon strips around being delivered to your desktop for free.

Download freeComics Widget 1.5 in Softonic

AmazonWatcher 1.7.1-Monitor price changes on Amazon

http://amazonwatcher-mac.en.softonic.com/mac

AmazonWatcher alerts you of price changes on Amazon products, so you can get hold of holiday deals or be alerted of price falls on products you bought.

The application supports the six international Amazon sites and you can search for items by entering their URL, ISBN or ASIN. A preview image of the product, title and price will appear in AmazonWatcher's interface and the item will be added in your list. You can then choose whether to be alert by a sound, a pop up or by mail and manually set a price from which you want to be notified. The sound alert is horrendous though and it can only be set in seconds and minutes.

AmazonWatcher allows you to automatically place orders, for which you'll naturally need to have an Amazon account setup with your credit card details and 1-Click setup. We were a bit surprised to see items we hadn't picked appear in our lists. When selecting Amazon US, a Wii had already been selected (a trick to incite me to buy? who knows).

Despite a few limitations, AmazonWatcher can be a useful tool if you're the kind of person that likes to pounce on deals.

Download AmazonWatcher 1.7.1 in Softonic
