Mailings is capable of sending thousands of messages in the push of a button from your Mac. This makes Mailings especially suitable for Nnewsletters, marketing campaigns, membership lists or just keeping in touch with friends and family. The handy thing is you can see how many people have read your messages courtesy of a message tracking and delivery receipt service.

You can add embedded images into your mail-outs and send web pages as emails. Security has also been vastly improved in the latest release with support for SSL connections which means you can now use Mailings with Gmail. There's not much to fault with Mailings. It's regularly updated at no extra cost by the developer and anytime you get stuck, there's a very clear Help guide to guide you. The only issue you may find is when trying to use it with large multimedia attachments.

For those that receive very large amounts of mail daily, none of the above are particularly helpful when it comes to organizing content. MailSteward can help in this regard because it helps to control and organize large amounts of mail automatically so that it's easy for you to read and filter. Unfortunately, MailSteward doesn't work with web based clients although you can always redirect your mail to a desktop client.

With MailSteward, you can safely archive your large volume of vital email information, easily access your email database with fast, sophisticated searching and protect your essential email data from data formatting by locking important batches of mails. MailSteward can be a little tricky to configure but once you've done so, it works quietly in the background.

If you're already using another mail client such as Entourage you can export mbox files to MailSteward which could make your life seriously easier.

MaxBulk Mailer can save you a lot of time in this respect by allowing you to send e-mail and marketing material to huge numbers of clients and contacts at one time. MaxBulk Mailer works within its own desktop client so you don't even need a mail client to use it - excellent news for those that usually rely on webmail. MaxBulk Mailer can be used for sending out customized press releases, price lists and any other promotional material in text or HTML format.

MaxBulk Mailer is easy to setup and use and you can setup a list of contacts very quickly. It would have been useful to be able to import contacts from webmail contact lists, but you can always export them to a text document and try that way. However, one problem that you'll find with MaxBulk Mailer is that there is no way of clearly seeing if messages have been received or denied or not. This means you have to painstakingly go through your list of sent items to see if there were any errors.

However, overall, MaxBulk Mailer is a remarkably easy and convenient way to reach huge numbers of clients or customers.

UniMailer allows you to manage multiple groups of contacts but also makes e-mails to them feel more personal by allowing you to add a separate name to each one. UniMailer allows you to write plain text or HTML messages and supports attachments, although it doesn't seem possible to insert images into e-mails.

You can however track mail after it has been sent so that you get a delivery receipt on arrival. On the other hand, if you need to add lots of statistical data to e-mails, you can import it from Excel, which makes it a particularly useful tool for businesses. After sending, you've got a complete searchable archive of what you've sent, showing when and who to.

Most home users won't find much need for UniMail but small businesses will find it an invaluable tool.
