In the distant future a small group of human exiles have been doomed to fight for survival on the edge of the galaxy. Through military strength, espionage and deceit, a unified Terran government has maintained an uneasy peace. As resources run short, however, these Confederate nations find themselves looking towards the rich worlds of their alien neighbors, the enigmatic Protoss. To further complicate matters, it seems that a previously unknown and deadly species known only as the Zerg has entered Protoss space and is destroying everything in its path. The time for war has come...

Urban Terror Quake 3 Mod 4.1 - Terrorists and marines fight to the death

Urban Terror brings a very welcome dose of 'realism' to the Quake 3 engine. Taking place in realistic, urban settings, the mod pits SWAT or marines against terrorists in a blur of hi-octane cordite-reeking action.

Featuring actual weapons (with recoil!) and more realistic environments, Urban Terror combines the best of Quake 3 Arena with what was, for me, a much more enjoyable setting. The speed of play is impressively fast and the graphics held up fairly well. the quality of sound effects leaves something to be desired (every shot sounds exactly like the last, never mind who fired it) but I found that the music added a welcome theatricality to events.

The download includes a number of default maps including Abbey, which is the one you can see in our screenshots. On this particular map, newcomers and rusty oldies alike can try out their skills by adding bots to the game for a sort of single player mode. It's also worth noting that the game no longer requires Quake 3 Arena to be installed (see the requirements section below for details).

Urban Terror is one of the best Quake 3 Arena mods available - highly recommended.

Motion JWii 0.9.7.1 - Convert videos to play on the Photo channel on the Wii

I'm a huge fan of the Nintendo Wii but one of the few things that bugs me about the console is that it won't play all my videos. The system uses its own format, the MJPEG, and although you can play AVI and MOV movies, it doesn't support any other type of video file. Or does it? If you use Motion JWii then it will. The script will convert any file into Motion JPEG format, allowing you to store the file onto a memory card and pop it into your Wii.

The conversion process is very quick and you won't need QuickTime Pro in order to make it work. There aren't many options for compressing video which I think would have been nice to see, especially as the Wii Photo channel won't play movies of more than 15 minutes in length. That said, it's a great way of grabbing files from YouTube and playing them on your TV through your Nintendo.

Color Sudoku 8.5 - Play sudoku with colors

Been bitten by the Sudoku bug yet? Color Sudoku is a variation of the popular timewaster except that this time you'll have to fill the grids with colors instead of numbers. As any other Bakno games, Color Sudoku provides clear instructions and enough settings to tweak your playing board. You can customize colors and choose between four different tops. Color Sudoku also gives you a choice of 4*4 or 9*9 grids, the latter being much harder.

We like the little palette of colors that appears when you click on an empty space. You can add color annotations by CTRL clicking. The timer at the bottom adds a bit of pressure to the game and lets you aim on improving your speed and logic.

As any Sudoku game, Color Sudoku quickly gets addictive. Although the difficulty bar is fairly imprecise (you drag it from easy to hard), this game is ideal any time you have five minutes to waste.

Crazy Eggs 1.2.2 - Link up dinosaur eggs of the same pattern

Crazy Eggs is a puzzle game that tests your reflex speed and hand-eye coordination. The goal in your game is to link up dinosaur eggs of the same pattern, and clear all eggs on board within a time limit.

Crazy Eggs is a game for the household, it is a game for you to pass time after a hard day’s work, and it is also the best choice for you to challenge your own reflexes. You can play this game together with your family, and challenge them to a game of logic, precision and speed!

If you feel like playing the game in a relaxed mood, you can choose the casual mode that has no time-limit. That way, you will be able to think deep and plan out the matching sequence that will result in the highest combo possible.
You can also play the challenge mode to put your reflex speed to test, and see how you perform under the most extreme tests.

You need to choose two eggs with the same pattern, and link them up using not more than 3 straight lines (in order words, not more than 2 line turns), if successful, the two eggs will be cleared. Of course, there should not be any obstacles in the line of path.

Warblade 1.3 - Shoot-em-up based on the Amiga classic

Sometimes there's nothing better than a good old space shoot'em up. Warblade is an updated version of the Amiga classic called Galaga.

Of the 100 levels available in the game, 75 are at least identical to those you'll find in Galaga. Otherwise the game offers updated graphics, more bonuses and special effects. Your goal is like in any typical space shoot'em up, to shoot down enemy ships and beat the end of level bosses. The game can get quite challenging with enemy fire all over the screen and alien ships racing at you.

To make Warblade work properly you'll have to ensure that your graphics card is good enough. Don't worry though, if your computer can take games with higher end graphics then it will have no trouble with Warblade.

If you like shoot'em ups and you're a big fan of arcade games you'll enjoy playing Warblade. However you'll probably find the game gets a bit repetitive after a while.

Poker Academy Pro 2.5.9 Build 235 - Become a pro at Poker

Poker may not be a difficult game to learn, but what really distinguishes the pros from the amateurs is knowing all the tricks and ropes to win hands. Poker Academy is aimed at improving your level at poker.

The game pits you against virtual players, meaning you don't have to worry about betting actual money, and lets you control up to 200 hands so you can see and learn from all sorts of situations. The game can really be tweaked according to your level of play, and you can set the level of opponents and host your own tournaments.

Poker Academy has many well prepared tutorials to guide you, but even better, will provide all sorts of statistics to examine your hands, wins and losses. You can also create filters to analyze your game even more closely. One feature we quite liked was the Hand Evaluator, which can tell you your chances according to your flop (first three face up cards).

Poker Academy will certainly allow you to improve the game. 6 hours of demo probably aren't enough though, as you can get easily hooked to poker. If you decide to purchase the game you can then get into more serious games with other real Poker Academy players.

There are so many options and menus to choose from that the game can seem a little confusing at first.

Poker Academy will allow you to improve your game of poker significantly with loads of statistics and useful tutorials. Recommended for poker lovers.

Christmas Super Frog 1.9.1 - Locate missing presents to save Christmas

Super Frog is a classic arcade game where you have to guide a frog across a busy highway to safety. This Christmas alternative to the popular game adds a bit of twist to it, with not only cars and trucks, but also candy canes and stockings coming into your way. After crossing the road successfully you'll have to make your way on a path and grab the present on the other side.

Christmas Super Frog is a fun timewaster but doesn't offer much more. First of all the graphics are really weak and the music itself gets annoying after a while. Even though the game is fairly easy to get used to, all you need is your arrow keys, it lacks any guidance for new users. We also thought the game got too difficult too early, as level 2 is already very challenging, with much more faster cars than the first level.

Christmas Super Frog is a basic time waster, fun for the holidays but nothing more.

Christmas Crisis 1.2.3 - Help Santa deliver all the presents

The nightmare before Christmas? Almost. In Christmas Crisis you need to help out Santa delivering presents by guiding his sleigh and dropping presents over houses, whilst avoiding jets and airplanes. The game is certainly a good idea for the holidays and an original adaptation of the Space Invaders style, yet Christmas Crisis is on the whole rather disappointing.

First of all, and this may sound cheesy, but I quite like when there's a little introduction to the game, or at least some sort of setting. Christmas Crisis drops you right in without any explanation as to why you need to replace Santa. There's only a small window to explain the controls.

Movements in Christmas Crisis are simple. Use your arrow keys to navigate your sleigh and the space bar to shoot the presents onto houses. On the whole though, they feel a bit clunky, and there's a little delay every time you move the sleigh. Christmas Crisis is a bit difficult and I couldn't manage to hit all the houses in the first level. Getting used to it doesn't take much though, but the increase of planes flying around as you pass levels does make it challenging.

Even though the game lacks an introduction, and controls are clunky, Christmas Crisis is an OK time waster for the holidays.

MacBornes 1.0.1 - A 2 player card car-driving game

MacBornes is the Mac adaptation of a popular card game known in France as 'Mille Bornes' and where your objective is to reach 5,000 miles.

The game is played by two players, who both receive six cards. You put down mile cards at every turn to reach 5,000 miles. During play you can also give hazard cards to your opponent to slow him down. These go from a flat tire to an accident or many more other incidents. If your opponent gives you a hazard card you'll have to get a recovery card for the corresponding incident, like refill for an out of gas card. The game includes Safeties which give your car a special ability, like puncture proof tires or being a driving ace.

Although the graphics look a little weak, MacBornes is actually a successful adaptation of the card game and a great time waster. The rules are easy to pick up and games never last too long. We liked the sounds included in the game like the engine roaring or tires screeching. Although you can play with a friend over a network via Bonjour we would have liked to be able to play against more opponents though.

Despite being limited to two players and weak graphics, MacBornes is a good adaptation of a fun card game. A good time waster.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Demo 3334 - Reload. Rev up. Ride out.

The Unreal Tournament 2004 official demo includes five playable game modes, and offers fans their first taste of Unreal Tournament 2004’s two new game modes: the introduction of the hyper-charged Onslaught mode and the return of the fan-favorite Assault mode, which last appeared in the original Unreal Tournament. The demo also features established gametypes like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Bombing Run.

Onslaught Mode

Onslaught is a epic-in-scope team-based challenge that pits two teams in bitter warfare across massive terrain maps in a frag-filled battle to destroy, capture and hold key power nodes. Vehicles play a major role as war-hardened flying and driving machines transport combatants to the “front? and serve as mobile platforms to launch devastating attacks on the enemy.

Assault Mode

In the completely redesigned Assault mode, gamers are challenged to attack or defend bases in a bigger and badder version of the Unreal Tournament classic; many Assault maps require the use of vehicles as a critical gameplay element.

The Game is a top-down, turn-based adventure game. You guide a team of hardcore soldiers on missions to rid the universe of the big, nasty, evil aliens. Sometimes the missions involve killing everything hostile that moves. Sometimes they need you to rescue something valuable. Sometimes you need to blow something up. If you have seen movies like Aliens or Starship Troopers, this should be very familiar to you. If you haven't, go watch them already.

OSX Freecell 1.13 - 100.000 variations of the solitaire game

OSX FreeCell is a very addictive solitaire card game. It differs from other solitaire card games in that winning other solitaire card games depends mostly on luck, with FreeCell, winning depends mostly on SKILL. Just about every FreeCell game is potentially winnable. It just may take some studying and thinking to figure out how.

OSX FreeCell is programmed to give you 100,000 unique games to play, a lifetime of games. Each one is uniquely numbered which means you can play the same game over and over until you are able to win it. (Or not win it, if it turns out to be impossible.) OSX FreeCell keeps track of details about each game played. Moves, Time, Wins, Loses, percent won, current and best win and loss streaks are all tracked and recorded.

Features:

Specifically designed for and runs natively on Mac OSX

Small download size (quick and easy even with dial-up connection)

Complete online instructions

Fluid OpenGL graphics

Records Win/Loss, Moves, Time, Undos and Times played of all 100,000 games

Quick card finder

Auto Game Finish feature can be turned off

Play in 2D or 3D mode
